Tessa locked the door behind her and dropped her bag onto the table.
She stood there for a moment, staring at nothing.
Then she took a long, shaky breath.
None of this was supposed to happen.
None of this was supposed to happen to her.
She slowly shook her head.
“What was never supposed to happen to you, Tess?”
Tessa froze.
Her heart stopped for a second.
She turned toward the hall.
Billy walked out of the hallway as if he belonged there.
In one hand, he held a jar of Nutella. With the other, he casually dipped his finger into it and took another bite.
Tessa’s face went pale.
She couldn’t speak.
She couldn’t even move.
Billy looked completely relaxed, as though he hadn’t just appeared inside her locked room.
Tessa took one cautious step backward.
Billy raised an eyebrow.
“What’s wrong, Tess?” he asked casually. “Why aren’t you saying anything?”
He walked toward her.
Tessa’s breathing became uneven as he approached.
Billy stopped directly in front of her and placed the jar of Nutella on the table beside them.
Then he looked straight into her eyes.
Tessa finally found enough courage to speak.
“What are you doing in my room?”
Her voice trembled.
“How did you even get in here?”
Billy said nothing.
“Get out,” she continued, trying to sound firm despite the fear in her voice. “Or I’ll scream. I’ll tell everyone who you really are. I’ll tell them you’re the killer.”
A small smile appeared on Billy’s face.
“If you were going to tell them,” he said, leaning slightly closer, “you would’ve done it already, Tess.”
Tessa’s lips parted, but no words came out.
Her body was trembling.
She could feel sweat forming along her skin.
She was scared.
Terrified.
Billy noticed.
He leaned closer and gently touched her cheek.
“What happened, baby girl?” he murmured.
“Are you scared?”
Tessa remained silent.
She didn’t know what to say.
Billy’s eyes stayed fixed on her.
“I haven’t even shown you my real side yet, Tess.”
His voice became quieter.
“Be brave.”
A faint smile tugged at his lips.
“You’re going to be a serial killer’s girlfriend. You can’t be this scared already.”
He lifted his hand again, as if he was going to touch her cheek.
Tessa immediately stepped away.
Billy suddenly moved his hand away from Tessa’s mouth.
She refused to look at him.
“Ben!”
Her voice shook, but this time there was anger beneath the fear.
“Get out of my house. Right now.”
Billy’s expression didn’t change.
“I’ve kept your secret this entire time, and that doesn’t mean you get to say whatever you want to me or do whatever you want.”
She swallowed hard.
“I will never be yours.”
Her voice cracked slightly.
“I could never love someone like you. Someone who kills people.”
She looked at him for only a second before quickly looking away again.
“Please… just leave.”
The hand Billy had been holding in the air slowly dropped.
He stared at her for a moment before walking toward her again.
“Baby girl…”
His voice was calm.
“Stop calling me Ben.”
Tessa looked up.
“My name isn’t Ben.”
Billy’s expression hardened.
“And I never told you that you loved me.”
He stepped closer.
“I never asked you to love me.”
His eyes darkened.
“You’re my obsession.”
He paused.
“And when I become obsessed with something, I make it mine.”
His voice became colder.
“I don’t wait for permission.”
He held her gaze.
“And the point is—you’re mine.”
Tessa’s heart pounded against her chest.
“The sooner you understand that, the better it will be for you.”
Billy turned and started walking toward the door.
Tessa remained completely silent.
Her hands were still trembling.
She watched him walk away.
Then, suddenly, she turned toward him.
“Ben!”
He stopped.
Tessa’s voice shook, but she forced the words out.
“Never try to touch me with the same hands you use to kill people.”
Billy slowly turned his head.
“And don’t ever try to come near me again.”
For a moment, he said nothing.
Then Tessa’s anger finally overcame her fear.
“I hate you, Ben!”
The words echoed through the room.
Billy’s jaw tightened.
He turned around.
In an instant, he crossed the distance between them.
Tessa barely had time to react before he shoved her back against the wall.
Her hands were pinned above her head, and his other hand covered her mouth.
Tessa’s eyes widened in terror.
She struggled to breathe.
Her entire body went rigid.
Billy stood dangerously close to her, his anger evident in his eyes.
Tessa could smell that familiar scent again.
The same scent she had noticed before.
Her eyes remained locked on his.
Those unmistakably green eyes stared back at her.
“Shh.”
His voice was low.
“Be quiet.”
Tessa’s breathing became heavier beneath his hand.
For several seconds, neither of them moved.
Silence filled the room.
Billy slowly moved his hand away from Tessa’s mouth.
Tessa’s hands and feet were beginning to feel cold from fear.
Then Billy’s expression slowly changed.
The anger faded from his face.
He turned his head slightly to the side and let out a quiet, almost amused laugh.
When he looked at her again, there was something different in his eyes.
“You make it really hard for me to stay angry at you.”
Tessa stared at him, confused and frightened.
Billy’s gaze lingered on her.
“Stop looking at me with those eyes, baby girl…”
He paused.
“Or…”
He leaned slightly closer.
Tessa instinctively held her breath.
Billy stopped just short of her lips, his gaze fixed on hers.
Neither of them spoke.
Their breathing was the only sound between them.
Tessa’s eyes flickered toward his lips before quickly returning to his eyes.
For a few seconds, neither of them moved.
Then Tessa finally broke the silence.
“Or what?”
Her voice was barely above a whisper.
Billy gave her a slow smile.
“Or controlling myself is going to become very difficult.”
He released her and took two steps backward.
Tessa immediately brought her hands down, breathing heavily.
She couldn’t understand what had just happened.
Her mind was racing.
Before she could process any of it, Billy turned and walked toward the door.
He opened it.
Just before stepping outside, he stopped.
Then he looked back at her.
Tessa was still standing against the wall, staring at him with pure confusion.
Billy held her gaze.
“My name is Billy.”
A brief pause.
“Billy Jonas.”
Then he walked out.
The door closed behind him.
Tessa didn’t say a word.
She simply stood there in silence, staring at the door.
Billy Jonas.
