*Elias’s POV*
Fuck.
My mate stood in front of me protectively as her family eyed me with hatred practically spewing from their eyes.
“Explain. Now.” The man ordered and my eyes drifted to the shoulder I shot on our last encounter.
Lilith sighed and messed with her hands with nervousness.
“Matthew, I know this might be a little to take in but I promise you he isn’t a threat. Elias is my-
“Are you kidding me right now?!” I heard the women, I could only assume was my mate’s sister, exclaim as she stepped away from Matthew’s grasp.
“Lili. He attacked our home. He killed our people. He-“ She pointed at me while I held my head high. “Is a monster.”
A monster? I can show her what a monster can do if that’s what she really wants.” I heard wolf Kai chuckle.
Seriously? I asked him quietly with disapproval. We are trying to gain their trust. For Lilith’s sake.
Kai grunted at my words but I knew he wouldn’t risk anything that would make Lilith hate us more than she already did.
I sighed and stepped forward.
“What I did was unforgivable. The things I could offer will never be enough to repay you for what I did to your home, to your pack.”
Matthew glanced at me as I spoke with caution as I continued.
“My mate and I brought resources to help restore your pack to its glory. We also bring information that must be discussed.” I took Lilith’s hand and brought her to my side. Her sister looked at me with disbelief. Her gaze hardened as Matthew tried to calm her with his touch.
“What did you do to my sister? Did you bewitch her?” She questioned me, which was quite annoying at this point.
“Vivian, I am not being bewitched.” Lilith answered as her sister scoffed.
“I’ll believe that when pigs start flying.”
What a b****! Kai chuckled as I agreed with a smirk.
Matthew sighed and rubbed his temple with frustration.
“Very well. Let’s discuss this matter of important information in my office in thirty minutes. Until then, you can stay in Lilith’s room.”
I nodded in acknowledgement before I placed my hand on Lilith’s lower back to motion her to lead the way. She was blushing furiously as what her brother-in-law said about me staying with her in her room.
“Lead the way Lili.” I whispered softly in her ear. I watched her shiver under my touch and how her face turned into a bright shade of red.
She moved forward after a second and led me up the stairs of her home and down the hall.
My gaze fell on the family portraits on the walls; photos of a happy family of four, some with only two girls, some with only a baby, and finally, at the end of the hall with a see-through black linen, a portrait of a man and his wife.
I glanced at this portrait with curiosity while Lilith’s gaze saddened.
The man had dark brown hair and a stubble around his chin to match. His eyes were light green. The way he held himself told me that he must have been a great alpha. I quickly realized that Lilith resembled this man quite a lot, even to the part where she held her stubborn, prideful self.
The women looked like Vivian, from her wavy blonde hair and blue eyes down to her petite size.
“My dad would always know what to do.” Lilith said quietly as I broke my gaze away from the portrait to look at her. “Even when things just didn’t make sense.”
“He sounds like a good man.” I assured her.
She sobbed slightly and covered her mouth with her hand to silence the cry that threatened to escape. It took a moment for her to regain her emotions and she quickly straightened up.
“He was a good man, the best kind of man this pack had.” She looked away and opened the door that was to our right.
Kai whined his sympathy for our mate, wanting to hold her and make all her pain go away.
She needs time. I told my wolf as I entered her room and glanced around at the simplicity of her room.
The only mess I noticed was the pile of several books, papers, and maps surrounding her desk.
I walked over and immediately noticed notes that translated long lost languages from open books explaining the history of the first packs.
I even noticed a book written about the Blood War. I picked it up and flipped the book open to a random page which just so happened to be a picture that detailed of how the two princes of the first pack fought with one another for control of the Blood Pack after their father’s tragic death.
I placed it down and noticed that Lilith was gazing at me with a soft smile as she picked up book and sat on her bed.
“Believe it or not, this was my favorite book to read.” She explained as she looked at the picture, her fingers running over every detail.
“According to a journal I found, some of the elders were convinced that the eldest son poisoned his father to gain control of the pack.” She pointed out while I watched her with admiration.
“Oh really now?” I asked with a smile.
“Yes! In fact, they even found a vial of the same poison that was discovered in the alpha’s tea in the son’s room.” Lilith started explaining with excitement. Her eyes lit up as she went on, the way she looked caused my heart to skip a beat.
“The eldest son denied the accusation and eventually his own brother turned on him causing them to fight over the title of Blood Pack’s next alpha. It caused a civil war amongst the pack.”
Her eyes turned to me and her cheeks flushed a bright red. She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear making me chuckle at how embarrassed she looked.
“I didn’t mean talk your ear off with this stupid book, most people didn’t really take interest in it like I did.” She tried to explain her but I placed my hand on hers and she closed her eyes in comfort at my touch.
God I just want to make her mine right now. Kai proclaimed as I tried to push him to the back of my mind.
“It isn’t just a stupid book.” I told her, taking the book from her hands and examining it. “It tells us of our history, the things we should learn from to keep from repeating history.”
She opened her eyes at my words and her breath hitched slightly as we just looked at each other. For a moment, it was just us. Nothing else mattered except for the beautiful women sitting next to me.
I watched as her eyes shifted to my lips then back to my eyes as I leaned forward slightly. She copied my movement, our lips just inches away from touching. I could see every little detail in her eyes as I placed my hand on the back of her neck.
I closed my eyes and leaned forward to close the distance between us, but just as I did a knock at the doorway interrupted the silence and Lilith immediately got away from my grasp and my eyes followed hers.
Her sister was staring at us disapprovingly before she fixated her eyes on Lilith.
“Matthew and I are ready to talk.”
Lilith nodded and got up, quickly following after her sister.
I sat there for a second, thinking about what just happened before sighing and following after them.
Dammit.
