Chapter 12

*Lilith’s POV* I felt my sister’s gaze on me as we walked towards the room where Matthew was waiting. Her gaze felt like hot needles tearing into my skin and I knew she was angry with me. The tension in the air was heavy, too heavy. “Vivian.” I started, but she just gave me a look. Vivian, despite being my sister, was still a Luna. Any order from her was to be respected. And so I stayed quiet. Elias was also strangely quiet, but I couldn’t blame him. He was alone in here. He had no allies. No friends. No support. Nothing. Except me. It was exactly how I felt when I arrived in his pack, except I didn’t wage war against them. We turned a corner and I lifted my eyes ahead to see the large double door that led to where pack members of powerful titles met up to discuss pack issues and developments. The war room. A nearby guard opened the doors and let us through, although he eyed Elias with a hard gaze of suspicion. Instinctively, I took Elias’s hand in mine and held it tight. If I’m being honest with myself, I did it because I was worried and anxious. A selfish action. I was grateful when he squeezed my hand in reassurance, as if he could read my mind. His gaze remained hardened with caution. There was no way he would let the others see how stressed he was. But from the way he was holding my hand, as if I would disappear any moment, he told me he was just as worried as I was. With him, I wasn’t alone. Vivian walked ahead of us to meet by Matthew's side as his focus was engrossed on studying several maps spread about the glass table that seemed to take up more room than anything else. "My love?" My sister touched her mate's shoulder gently and he immediately awoke from whatever trance he was trapped in. He smiled at her and ceased any worry she had about him with a singular kiss on her head. Matthew turned his gaze on me and sighed. His eyes flickered down to where mine and Elias's hands clasped together. I tensed at the judgment in his eyes. The hatred that bore in those deep blue orbs of his. I bit my lip out of habit and moved my attention to the maps as I moved towards the table for a closer look. My brows furrowed in concentration as I glanced at the map of our world. The detailed perfection of each territory line that separated each pack. My fingers traced over the mountain ranges of the forgotten kingdom that once held the most powerful and sacred packs. My eyes flickered over to the northern parts of the map where the Dark Moon Pack would be. Matthew whispered something into my sister’s ear before turning his attention to me. “Start explaining.” He ordered. I took a deep breath, going over everything that had happened after Elias took me from them. What the witch told us. When the intruder entered my room to try and take a book and the note. “Who would possibly want to cause a war between packs?” Vivian asked, confusion swirling in her eyes as she sat in a nearby chair. “It could be anyone. Outcasts wanting revenge possibly.” Matt rubbed his temple as he looked down at the map. “All we know is that we need to find out who they are and get rid of them.” Elias stated, his eyes on me. I tried to think of anything, anything to get my mind off of a possible war. Vivian scoffed at Elias. “Get rid of them? I guess that really is how you know how to solve a problem then. Just kill to solve it all I suppose.” “That is not what I meant-“ “Then what did you mean Alpha Reyes? Did you mean to go shower them in flowers until they decide to not cause a war?” She stood up and placed her hands on the table. “Face it. You’re a killer. You killed members of MY pack to get revenge for something we didn’t do! You took MY sister away and suddenly you’re the good guy who has come to save the day? What a joke!” I frowned and went up to my sister. “Viv-“ She growled towards me as her eyes glowed slightly. “Whose side are you on right now?!” “Vivian, I’m not on anyone’s side? This has everything to do with the fact that there are people out there who want to create a war! If we don’t work together and stop it, they will win and we lose everything!” She turned away from me and I looked towards Matthew, a plea for some support. He sighed and went to her. His hand on her shoulder as he looked towards Elias, who stayed staring down at the map before him. “I will send out some men to find these rogues and gather intel before we move forward with plans to stop this mess.” I nodded towards him in response. “Thank you Matt-“ “Until I find this intel, you will be guarded at all times. So will your mate. I don’t trust him and we can’t lose you again. Any wrong move and he will pay for it.” What? No! “Matthew, please-“ “That is an order Lilith. You may be his mate but you are still apart of this pack!” I growled in anger, crossing my arms over my chest. “Yes of course. We understand.” Elias finally spoke. “If I find out anything through my pack’s intel, I will inform you immediately.” Matthew simply nodded in response to my mate. “I will speak to the elders. Until then, you may return to your room or you may work on repairs, the choice is entirely up to you.” He flicked his hand in dismissal. With that, Elias and I quickly left and returned to the room.
