1558 Words
The next morning, Miss Light went to the hospital to visit her sick dad, when she entered her father’s ward where he was, she sat on a particular spot on the edge of the bed and held his hand remembering her early childhood-sweet memories growing up under once an energetic man, his father. Who is now lying helplessly down here in the hospital sick bed, and she said “Dad I won’t let anything happen to you” At this time her eyes were already well up with tears. she tried to establish a conversation with her dad but no response from him. Just then she decided to do anything possible to save her father’s life. Feeling pained about her father’s deteriorating and helpless condition. She stood up and walked to the doctor’s office, and on a single knock on the door without waiting for permission to enter, she turned the knob and opened the office door and entered. “Miss. Light, how are you doing”? Said the doctor. “I will do it, my father must not die, even if it means sacrificing part of my body to my worst enemy on earth” The doctor was stunned, and hesitantly said, “I don’t understand what you mean, Miss. Light”? “I’m ready to donate one of my kidneys to Mr. Bright on the condition that his parents will take care of my father’s medical cost and my mother must not be aware of this” He nodded in agreement and replied “If That is what you want, no problem I must inform Mr. Douglas immediately,” said the doc. within twenty minutes Mr. Douglas was already in the hospital and had gladly conceded to her terms. She had now changed her dress and is now lying on a stretcher in the theatre, putting on a hospital gown although she is still visibly scared and shaking slightly; the woman that used to be bold and fierce is nowhere to be seen, as tears roll down on her both cheeks, with her heart-beat racing very fast. Many factors of things were now running through her mind, still deep in thought, when Mr. Bright Darvis was wheeled in on a stretcher by the nurses to the same theatre with her, seeing him, she grew angry and fumed. Remembering how she was maltreated and dehumanized by Mr. Bright when she was at New Generation Construction Company. Instantly she looked away with her eyes closed and turned her face to the other side of the wall of the hospital Mr. Bright on seeing her disposition of anger again deeply felt remorse and shame knowing that his life was at the mercy of a girl he had over multiple occasions downgraded and maltreated in his company. When the nurses who wheeled him in left him and her in the ward. He swiftly looked around and saw everyone was out now, except him and her. He coldly called her, Miss. Light, and said, “First of all I want to say I am sincerely sorry for the pains I must have caused you in the past, I am heartily sorry, please forgive me” he pinched the bridge of his nose after saying this. Miss. Light still looking away from his direction still kept mute. Again, he muttered a sorrowful and emotional word and said “One could argue that my actions were reprehensible though they were, led to a virtual distaste for you, I have to say it was eye-opening. I have taken a look inside and I have asked myself, what’s going on in there? And, you know, I realized a lot of it goes back to my mum. When I was still a child, she was a prone woman and always stern to me, to treat my classmates according to their social status of their parents”. At this point, tears were already visibly well-up in his eyes and rolling down on both of his cheeks forming straight lines. After saying all this he sighed and stylishly wiped off the tears with his back hand and repeatedly sniffed in to further restrain himself from shedding silent tears. Miss Light now lying face downward on her bed cupping her face with her two hands, on hearing the remorseful remarks he had uttered, she sat upright with tearful eyes, also called him, Mr. Bright who was now lying face up with his eyes closed in thought but was snapped from it by her call, he quickly opened his and rolled it over, and he tried to sit upright but he couldn’t as he fell back on the bed. “I have forgiven you for all you did to me, even though you cause me pain and frustration”. As she just finished saying this, the doctor and nurses walked in fully kitted up in their surgical gowns. On seeing the doctor, she asked about her father’s condition, and the doctor informed her that he was stable and treatment for the cancer had commenced as Mr. Douglas Darvis had made the full payment. On hearing this, she slightly felt relieved but still burdened by the uncertainty of her fate. The surgical equipment and tools were all set, and the doctor now again informed the duo that the surgical procedure was about to commence and it would take a couple of hours to be done with it and both should just be calm and relaxed as it is going to be fast. Both nodded slightly, as she sighted the surgical knives and tools her heart beat faster, her heart almost jumped out of her chest and she shivered and sweated at the same time. The doctor then injected sleeping and anesthesia drugs on both of them. In a moment they all went to sleep and the doctor conducted the surgical procedure in the theatre. The nurses could be seen all masked up assisting in the operation, with blood all over their hands, and meticulous in dissecting the body part to ensure proper transplant of Miss. Light’s kidney to Mr. Bright. It was over eleven hours now and the doctor and the nurses were still inside the theatre room, and Mr. Douglas and his other family members could be seen at the hospital reception all seated looking very uneasy and restless. Mr. Douglas grew more worried and stood up, pacing from one end of the wall to another with both hands crossing against his chest. Just then the theater door opened and the doctor leaned his head out, immediately, everyone looked up in the direction and ran toward his direction with so many concerns, full of questions. “Doctor, how is my son?” said Mr. Douglas in a trembling voice. “He is fine and stable. The nurses are tidying up the place. Please, excuse me now, I need a moment”. Then he walked into his office. In a few minutes, the nurses started filing out of the theatre room one after the other looking stressed out. Just much later in the day, Miss Light’s mum came to the hospital, she saw that her husband had been treated and the hospital bill fully paid. Without being told she asked Miss Grace who was right there with her in the ward whether Light told her if she was still going to donate her kidney to Mr. Bright in exchange for the money. But she answered in the negative that she never mentioned it to her. As she grew more worried, she went to the doctor’s office and inquired from him how her husband was treated and who paid for it. The doctor, having been a family friend and seeing the serious concerned face she was putting on, now decided to be straight and honest with her, that it was Miss Light who donated one of her kidneys in exchange for the treatment of her husband. On hearing this, she screamed out loud, groaned with tearful eyes, and fell on the floor. “I am finished, how could she do this, despite my words to her, and she gave me her word that she wasn’t going to do it”. The doctor stood from his seat, walked up to her, and held her up from the floor, reassuring her that Miss Light was fine as the surgical operation was successful. But she was insistent that she wouldn’t believe the doctor until she see her daughter herself. As this was going on, there was a loud resounding scream from Mr. Lucky’s ward, at the speed of light, the doctor quickly rushed to the ward, leaving her behind, on getting to the ward, it was Grace who repeatedly screamed with an intense look, the doctor asked her what the matter was. She said that Mr. Lucky just groaned and muttered that I should inform Light and his wife that “he loves them”. And then closes his eyes. She tried calling him but no response. Before she could finish saying this Miss Light’s mum was already standing beside the doctor listening and suddenly walked up to the sick bed, held her husband on his two shoulders, and shook him gently to wake him up but all to no avail, she cried until her eyes turned red.
