Desperate situation!
When faced with a dilemma, the most prudent course of action is to abandon Guan Ya and allow the others to flee. This is not selfishness; it is a rational decision. To risk the lives of everyone for the sake of a single individual like Guan Ya could lead to collective doom.
If Guan Ya were someone of great significance, perhaps it would warrant taking a risk, but aside from her beauty and appealing physique, what else does she contribute? She is merely a wasteful glutton, often temperamental and spoiled; abandoning her is the wisest choice.
Regrettably, not everyone shares Adam's perspective. While humanity is inherently selfish, it often values certain individuals or things highly. To Adam, Guan Ya means nothing, yet to Miao Yun Yao, she is her own flesh and blood—perhaps her only remaining family. To Ling Ao, she is the daughter of his former employer, a person he has long cherished...
Thus, they would never abandon Guan Ya to flee alone until the very last moment... at least not now...
"Adam, is there truly no other way?" Miao Yun Yao could not fault Adam for his suggestion; given the circumstances, leaving Guan Ya behind seemed to be the best option.
"You had better make a decision quickly and take a good look at the situation! Don't be naïve! This is no movie where you can afford to waste time!"
Having said this, Adam ignored them, dispatching a few nearby zombies. His body was now drenched in the blood of the undead; if this continued, he would be forced to save himself.
As he fought, he observed the surrounding terrain. This was a T-junction, with one path completely blocked by several trucks—likely crashed in the chaos of their escape. The massive vehicles had rendered the already narrow two-lane road impassable.
With their original route now blocked, all that remained was the left turn leading away from the zombies. While he could see a few undead there, they were not as numerous; the real danger lay in the path they had come from.
"If we are to escape, that's the only way..." Although it led away from the overpass, survival took precedence.
As long as he lived, there would always be a chance to leave. Adam glanced at the off-road vehicle, clearly aware that Ling Ao and Miao Yun Yao were deeply embroiled in deliberation.
"You can't act? Let me take over!" After knocking a zombie's head off, Adam rushed back, snatching the cleaver from Ling Ao's hands, intent on slicing through Guan Ya's calf.
"Stop!" Guan Ya's pupils dilated in terror, her gaze fixed on Adam with sheer horror.
Ling Ao and Miao Yun Yao finally reacted; Ling Ao gripped Adam's shoulder and hurled him aside with a swift throw.
"Adam! Have you lost your mind?" Ling Ao's face was a mask of fury, laced with urgency.
"You're the ones who are insane!" Adam couldn't help but shout, but he quickly regained his composure. There was no time for hesitation now.
"Adam, where are you going?" Ling Ao's expression shifted as he saw Adam turn to leave.
"Take your time to hesitate; I refuse to die here!" With that, Adam ignored their reactions and sprinted towards the area that seemed less populated with zombies.
Seeing Adam's resolve, Ling Ao's face twisted in turmoil. He knew that Adam was making the right choice, and under different circumstances, he would have followed suit. Yet, trapped inside the vehicle was the girl he had long admired from afar...
"Ling Ao, don't you want to escape too? Abandon us?" Miao Yun Yao's keen observation was undeniable; despite her fear, she had caught the change in Ling Ao's expression.
"Brother Ling Ao..." Guan Ya looked at him uncertainly.
Ling Ao said nothing; he clenched his jaw, then turned to Guan Ya with a serious gaze. "Xiao Ya, I'm sorry!"
Before she could react, he delivered a swift blow, rendering her unconscious. He then turned and did the same to Miao Yun Yao, carrying her on his back.
He shut the car door, raised all the windows, and once the interior appeared empty of life, he followed the path Adam had taken.
Zombies possess poor vision, worse than extreme nearsightedness. They typically rely on sound to detect living beings and then attack.
As Adam fled, some of the zombies altered their course to pursue him.
Previously, Adam had fought zombies using stealth or against small groups, but this was the first time he faced such a large horde head-on. The exertion far exceeded his expectations.
He was merely an average person with slightly better physical fitness, and the strain was beginning to weigh heavily on him.
"I must find somewhere to temporarily evade these zombies..." As he ran, he realized he might not be able to outrun them due to his own dwindling stamina.
He scanned the surrounding buildings. This area was a suburban town, primarily developed for foreign and domestic enterprises. Most structures were residential or a few entertainment facilities.
There were hardly any high-rise buildings; most were under ten stories tall.
Adam immediately dismissed the residential buildings; they would be far more dangerous than the streets! He had to find another option.
A supermarket? He spotted a familiar structure, a Jiaxifufu! Such a place would surely have ample supplies, particularly food!
Without a second thought, Adam sprinted towards a nearby five-story inn, situated about fifty meters from the supermarket.
Ridiculous! The supermarket would likely be filled to capacity with zombies!
Ignoring the infected prior to the outbreak, countless survivors would have foolishly rushed in to scavenge for supplies. Over time, the number of zombies inside would be unimaginable!
Though the inn would also have some, it would likely be far less crowded. Adam was confident in his assessment.
After dispatching several zombies obstructing his path, he charged into the partially open doors of the building. Inside the lobby, he found two zombies in security uniforms. After eliminating them swiftly, Adam immediately headed for the fire escape...
"What!" To his dismay, he found it secured with iron bars!
D*mn it! Adam cursed under his breath as several zombies stumbled in through the entrance, and the stairwell before him was locked tight?
Had Adam truly reached a dead end? Had he unwittingly cornered himself?
