Success! Breakthrough!
As Adam sat in quiet contemplation, pondering the path his life should take in this post-apocalyptic world, considering how best to utilize his strengths for survival, he found himself weighing many thoughts.
The existence of a system like Xucai's was undoubtedly an advantage, yet, at present, it seemed almost useless. To make use of it, he needed points—points which could only be earned by slaying zombies. Yet the points earned from killing zombies were pitifully small, far from sufficient for practical use.
It was a seemingly promising, yet perilous, deadlock!
Dancing with zombies at death's door every day? That was a fate Adam wanted no part of! But without doing so, he would earn no points! It was a trap with no escape!
Then Adam came up with another idea...
"Xucai, exchange this microwave oven for points!"
Adam grasped the microwave with his right hand, its weight light enough for him to hold with ease, and called out to the system in his mind. He wasn't sure if it would work, but he was willing to take the risk. If successful, his life could change forever.
"You..." Xucai's voice sounded tinged with helplessness, yet she did not refuse. After all, when Adam had made his decision earlier, Xucai had confessed that even she was unsure whether it was possible, which is why Adam had resolved to try.
Each exchange originated from his right hand—would the process be the same if he was attempting to exchange items back? No matter what, Adam proceeded cautiously, it being his first time.
One second passed, then two...
The zombies were getting closer, forcing Adam to swing his baseball bat with his left hand to knock away one of the advancing zombies, all the while anxiously waiting for some change.
"Did it fail? Was my idea wrong?" Though prepared for failure, seeing it come to pass was still a bitter disappointment...
But then, something unexpected occurred. A flash of white light emanated from his right hand, weak at first, then growing brighter and expanding outward, until it illuminated a large area around him, even half the supermarket!
Through the sudden burst of light, Adam saw clearly what had once been hidden—the zombies, those damned creatures, were lined up, more numerous than he could have imagined, all heading straight toward him! Soon, they would trap him in this area for good.
"System error... unable to process... unable to comprehend... cannot resolve... cannot stop..."
This time, the voice was devoid of emotion, revealing that the system had been disrupted by Adam's request.
"Ah!" A woman's voice, once again emotional, echoed, but why did it sound so lascivious?
Adam's eyes widened in astonishment, his face lighting up with a manic joy. In the blink of an eye, the microwave in his right hand disappeared, vanishing completely within the white light!
"Points increased by 10..."
The cold, indifferent voice of the system echoed, signaling that Adam's gamble had paid off!
Ten points? For a microwave? Though inexpensive, it was still worth several hundred yuan—how could it only be worth ten points?
Adam felt a tinge of disappointment, but since it had worked, he wasted no time. After swiftly knocking a few more zombies aside, he began his looting spree, akin to a bandit.
The white light had already faded, and Xucai had gone silent—perhaps the system was temporarily "dazed" from the error. But Adam had no time to dwell on that, as he kept exchanging all seemingly intact electronics in the area for points with his right hand.
Air conditioners, 30 points; computers, 20 points; flat-screen TVs, 50 points...
Although these were low-value items, it was still a windfall, so much so that Adam forgot the danger around him, completely absorbed in his hunt for wealth.
When Adam had stripped the area of all redeemable items, turning everything into points, he suddenly realized—he was surrounded by zombies...
With a snap, Adam activated an emergency light he had found during his search, only to see at least a hundred zombies pressing in on him from all directions.
The exits were blocked by zombies, and Adam was now completely cornered.
2774 points—this was the total amount Adam had accumulated. His recent looting spree had made him incredibly wealthy. Had there been more items available in the supermarket, Adam might have continued indefinitely—this was a business that could make him rich beyond measure!
"Now... how do I escape?"
Now that the initial shock had worn off, Adam had to face the harsh reality—how to fight his way out of the supermarket.
The exits were completely sealed, leaving no room for escape. Adam frowned—should he take another risk? While the current situation wasn't part of his original plan, he had become so immersed in his joy that he had forgotten to leave earlier.
But he had prepared for such dangers. With so many zombies around, a direct escape was impossible—he would have to resort to unorthodox methods.
400 points for basic virus serum, combined with 10 points for multiple antidotes. With his previous experience, Adam was 90% confident he could use the serum's effects to break out! The most important part was that this would protect him from infection during the process.
It was a shame to spend so many points, especially after gaining over two thousand, but this discovery—being able to exchange items for points—made it all worthwhile!
Without hesitation, Adam swallowed 400 points' worth of virus serum, then exchanged three antidotes in one go, injecting them into his neck and chest.
Sure enough, the intense heat from the virus subsided somewhat, but Adam could still feel the surge of energy within him, the urge to rip apart everything in sight, overwhelming his mind.
As expected, the fusion failed again, but the effect of the antidotes suppressed the infection for now, and the greater dose made him feel much better. However, the boost in power wasn't as extreme as the last time...
It seemed there were trade-offs—more antidote meant greater safety, but the enhancement to his abilities was less pronounced.
Just as Adam prepared to break through, he noticed an interesting exchange item. Upon seeing it, a smile of realization spread across his face—he had come up with a clever solution...
