The day of the meeting arrived, and the men gathered in the conference room, all dressed in black suits, except for Jerry, who wore casual attire. Grandpa Chang, also dressed in a black suit, began the meeting by expressing his gratitude to the vice chancellor and the two esteemed lecturers for taking the time to meet with him.
The vice chancellor, a wise and knowledgeable man, leaned forward and said, "Mr. Chang, we're aware of the sword's history. It's an honor to meet you, as we've learned that the sword was founded by John Cork, and his son, Davis Cork, was the founder of Wellspring University."
Grandpa Chang nodded, "Yes, that's correct. But what you may not know is that the sword has a much deeper significance. It was said to have been used to slay a mighty beast, by a dragon that had been terrorizing a kingdom in China for over 40 years."
The vice chancellor's expression changed from interest to surprise, "A dragon, you say? What kind of folktale is that?"
Grandpa Chang smile and continued, "The sword is said to have the power to vanquish evil spirits and is chosen by the sword itself, regardless of the wielder's origin. And now, it has been found by my grandson, Jerry."
The room fell silent, as the weight of Grandpa Chang's words sank in. The vice chancellor and lecturers exchanged glances, intrigued by this new information.
On a blessed sunny day, before John's marriage, he and his fiancée visited the beach. While his fiancée stepped away to get something, John noticed a dark brown crystal protruding from the sandy beach. Curious, he walked over, dug it up, and uncovered the sword. Amazed and perplexed, he tried to study the sword, but a sorrowful story transported him to his ancestor's past, as described in the book "Drawn to the Dawn" by Davis Cork.
Grandpa Chang revealed to the vice chancellor that if anyone touched the sword and disappeared, they would become the chosen traveler destined to save the land of Ja'chin Boaz. However, it took some convincing from Grandpa Chang and Jerry to persuade the vice chancellor and lecturers. Skeptical, the vice chancellor called a private meeting with the two best lecturers, and they decided to humor Grandpa Chang and Jerry, thinking it would be a way to prove them wrong.
Jerry and Grandpa Chang went from class to class, inviting students to touch the sword. However, some students refused, and nothing happened to those who did touch it. When it was Jerry's turn, he hesitated, "Me touch that?" He started to doubt the sword's authenticity and worried that if he touched it and nothing happened, he'd look foolish.
Just as Jerry was about to touch the sword, his parents, Mao Kai Shek and Sophia, arrived, looking frantic. Kai Shek rushed to stop Jerry.
"Jerry, don't!" Sophia begged, "No, Jerry, please!"
Jerry was surprised to see them and asked, "What are you guys doing here?"
Kai Shek held Jerry back, "Don't do that, let me talk! What if you didn't come back?"
Sophia knelt down, pleading, "No, Jerry, please!"
Jerry's eyes widened, "You knew about this?"
Kai Shek hesitated, "What if nothing happens, and you'll look stupid in front of everyone?"
Jerry pushed Kai Shek's hand away, determined, "You knew about this, and now I have a strong belief about it. I'm going, sorry dad, sorry mom." With that, Jerry touched the sword and disappeared, taking the sword with him.
Sophia's eyes widened in shock, and her heart felt like it had stopped. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she cried out, "Jerry!"
