CHAPTER 5
Billy got to their house, scanning where they lived. He broke the door glass getting in. He observed all they had, smashing as much as he could. They dared move away, and now things were hard for him. While they lived peacefully, he would make them pay, he thought, as he had the whole place wrecked.
Lily couldn't focus on Emily and had to go. She couldn't trade anything for Sam, so she rushed out, got in her car, and drove to Sam’s school.
Both she and Sam had been through quite some traumatic events, but Sam tried to keep things together despite all that happened. On getting to the school, she had one place in mind she believed Sam would be.
Pushing her way through, she headed straight to the restroom. She bumped into Lexy.
Lexy, seeing Lily’s state, followed behind. She had been looking for Sam as well.
On getting to the restroom, they looked through all the cubicles, but she wasn't there. She had a thought she dared not think, but she had to check nevertheless.
Emily felt insulted that she couldn't speak properly with her, as she had other things she prioritized over business, but things were just getting heated.
Liam had been Lily’s high school lover. They both got admitted to the same college and believed they would share a life together. Things were perfect, she thought. Her mom was healthy and alive, having taken both her and Sam from the orphanage before she developed cancer.
They were all happy. However, it all changed when her dad had to sell all he had for her mother's treatment, but she eventually died.
Depressed, he started drinking and gambling. He had raised his hands on Sam countless times without Lily knowing, but once she found out, she was equally hurt.
Things had gotten serious as the years passed. She saved so she could run away with Sam somewhere far from their father's reach. He had gotten into debt and wasn't ready to pay. He could sell Sam if he had a chance to, and he had that in mind.
Lily confided in Liam, her boyfriend, but he obviously thought of things differently. He loved her and was obsessed. His possessiveness was getting out of hand, but her love for him blinded her from understanding where it would lead.
She juggled jobs to pay off her father's debt while saving some for both her and Sam’s escape when she met him—Julius Berger—a matchmaker.
She had seen how people fell in love through his show and wished for a life where she could help people find their love.
However, with her issues on the ground, she needed to prioritize them first.
Sam, having endured what Billy did to her in hopes that she and her sister would escape, would hide in the closet. He gradually grew into a sadist, and Sam got more affected by it.
Lily, after paying off part of the debt and saving enough, packed both her and Sam’s things.
She asked Liam to help them get far away, but he saw it as Lily running from him. He had both sisters kidn*pped and locked Lily in a room he had decorated with flowers.
She banged the door to have him open it but, having slipped down listened to her constant plea. Luckily, she and Sam were saved. As for who called the police, she had no idea. She overheard some sort of argument from outside the room she was in, and after that, the police arrived.
She rushed to Sam, who was taken to the hospital, as she was locked in a room and, feeling suffocated, fainted.
She still was going to run away. As to who helped her, she vowed to repay. When Sam regained herself, she would move away fast.
She had Sam’s things with her, and once she was discharged that night, she had a taxi take them to the train station, where they moved to the next city.
Knowing no one, both she and Sam were happy they got away from their old home, and now they would decide how their life would be.
Still having some cash at hand, they had a room rented for them.
She searched for work. Once she got her payment, she had Sam enrolled in an art school, as she was interested in it. They eventually grew older, and they heard that a slot was open in a matchmaking organization. She went for the interview and passed. Starting out new, she was easily recognized, and soon later, she made a name for herself, as well as starting a matchmaking organization of her own.
All her years of sweat would not be taken by the past they had succeeded in running from.
Lily felt fear as she headed up the stairs. She was stopped by the teachers, as the stairs were prohibited from students, but Lily wanted to check. She had a hunch. She needed to check, and until it was proven or Sam was found, she would go either way.
She finally got a way cleared with the help of Lexy, who had turned the emergency fire alarm on.
Lexy, having trailed after Lily, stopped when she saw the teachers who intended to stop Lily from going up the rooftop. She ran back, locating the emergency switch for fire and raising an alarm. It had been the perfect distraction and had them believe.
She took it as her chance and moved up.
Lily knew how traumatized Sam was and how, after running, she paid for Sam’s therapy. She had become better and didn't need the sessions again. But with Billy’s sudden appearance, she got scared, and now was causing a reaction worth being scared of.
On getting to the rooftop, Lily saw her. She stood on the edge, having her hands wide open as though she intended to hug the air. Lily stared at her in horror as she called out her name.
Sam had her eyes locked on Lily as her vision blurred due to the tears that welled in her eyes.
