XAVIER
"Chief Peter, I understand what you're coming from. But it's really not a good idea to locked my shifters in prison cell. And I'm not going to be responsible on whatever might happen." Xavier continued reasoning with the stubborn, over worked, under paid official, but he wasn't budging.
"Are you threatening me??" The older man sat forward, his nostrils flaring.
"Of course not. I would never do that." Xavier insisted, and he was thankful when he felt the reassuring hand of his sister in his shoulder. He's patience with this human is running thin.
"Chief Peter, what our Alpha want to say is that imprisoning shifters in prison is akin in caging them. It will make their wolves nervous and scared. Alone and fearful. After too long, the loneliness become too much and the shifter will start to lose its human side. "
"This is all too much." The chief gripped his graying hair, completely overwhelmed. "Are you saying that I'm going to have wild beasts in my jail if I don't turn them over to you?"
"We didn't necessarily want you to put it like that.." Alexandra growled.
Xavier looked at his sister, he can understand why she's being like that. She's just being protective of their kind but he gesture her to not lose her temper. It wouldn't do them good, especially right now.
"I didn't cage anyone. I arrested a few rowdy gangster teens for breaking the law and put them in jail where they belong." the chief argued. He's starting to sweat, and Xavier doesn't know if it's because they're in a small conference room with very large shifters with only three officers who didn't look that confident even with their firearms. "And it's where they will stay until trial."
Xavier lean forward. "You don't have any jurisdiction over my wolves. No state does."
"As far as I know, that rule hasn't voted yet." the chief insisted more forcefully.
"Which means they're still on my control. And I demand you to release them." Xavier stood in his full height which is very intimidating 7 feet high. His pack mates followed suit. The sight of them will even scare the most ruthless man on Earth. And the officers are not immune to them. The room suddenly flooded with the stink of fear.
"I-I'm not scared of you... You freaks. If you do something to me I will not rest until all of your kind are thrown into damn cages. At least the Witch King guaranteed that the Witches who cause the disturbance will be punished with their magic strip of them. They won't just get a slap in the wrist, in your case... paw... And told to be a good boy."
"Continue to insult our Alpha! And let's see what a freak like us would do!!!" Ruxs snapped, his voice almost non human, making the three officers jump in their sit their hands hovering their guns.
"Calm down brother," Alexandra said, putting her hand over Ruxs shoulder until he took a step back. She's usually the calming balm of their pack. She's overprotective, but if needed she'll always there to help them see reason. That's why Xavier is thankful that she's with them. Because Xavier doesn't trust his wolf not to kill the rude humans talking them down as they are mere dogs. "Let's all sit down, please. We will not accomplish anything this way. And Chief Peter tell your officers to back down and relax. Its okay."
Its almost forever when the Chief and his officers calm down.
With a resigned sigh Chief Peter finally sat down."Fine, I'm sorry. That's uncalled for. But you have to understand Alpha Kin—"
"You don't have to call me that, just my name is enough." Xavier stop the stumbling man.
"Xavier. You have to understand, I have terrified citizens afraid to go out of their homes because of your ani—um shifters. I got business owners complaining their revenues decreasing. I got an angry wife ringing me every hour of every damn day asking for answers about who's accountable for his husband's condition."
"I understand, you might not believe me but I do. We will do everything to assist the humans. But with all due respect chief, putting my wolves in your assigned prison will not help at all. It will only make things worse. Please, release my shifters. I will personally give the punishment they deserve."
Chief Peter just looked at Xavier seems weighing his words. Thinking. After a while he open his mouth, and speak. "Give me something Xavier, not for me personally but to all the people whom were affected, at least for reassurance. The Witch King will be enforcing the death penalty, if needed. Did you know they had that?"
"No, I did not." Xavier is shocked. Death Penalty? What kind of leader will kill his own kind without a second thought? Justice is aware that vampires are cold, ruthless and merciless. But when did witches become the same? He knew for a fact that they're the same as shifters. They're overly protective of their own kin. They will do anything to defend one of their own. When did the leader of those fiery people started killing his own kin just to justify the other races misfortune?
And now, he's reconsidering if collaborating with the Witches will work. He couldn't be sure that the Witch King will not attack him. "I will not kill my wolves, but I will discipline them accordingly. I give you my word."
Suddenly, an unknown officer tap on the door. Xavier turned amd faced the uniformed rookie. He looked excited and a bit scared. "Chief, the Witch King just arrived. He's about to get the young witches."
The chief stood and adjusted his tie. "I spoke with this individual before. He's not what I expected. Maybe you should ask him about his correctional system. Looks like its more effective than yours, Alpha, with all due respect." the chief sneered walking pass by Xavier, leaving him and his pack all alone in the room.
"The Witch King is here?" Ruxs asked and looked at Xavier. "You wanted to meet him right, well, now is your chance."
Xavier stood, his sister and everyone else watching him closely. He can't appear, confused, he had to act surely and quickly.
"Yes, let's see if we can at least arrange something."
Ruxs instructed the two enforcers that accompanied them. "Approach his personal secretary, and let them know that the Alpha King wants a word with him before he leaves."
"Yes Alpha." they both answered, and left.
"Are you sure this is a good idea, Xavier." His sister asked. She's standing in front of him. Her eyes full of worry. "He just ordered three of his witches killed, like it was nothing."
"They may have different rules and traditions, Alexandra. But it doesn't make them our enemies." Putting his muscular arms around his sister's shoulder he pulled her to him. She felt fragile, worn and tired. Pushing some of his power to her, he let his wolf calm her. His wolf rumbled inside of him, content that he helped his sister.
The two enforcer immediately came back, and gave their report. "After the Witch King's secretary took care of all the paper works, we gave him your request. The Witch King gave his consent."
"Thank you." Xavier nodded. "Did you see the Witch King?"
"No Alpha."
"How do they seem to you." Alexandra asked.
"I haven't encountered their kinds before, so I don't know what to say. But they seem stiff and very disciplined."
"Of course they are." Xavier nodded and tried to reassure his sister. "See I told you, trust Rey. He's a good judge of character and he can sniff deceit."
"But we're talking about Witches here. They can change their smell with just a wave of their finger."
"Enough." Xavier ordered. "Be mindful of what you say. Don't forget—" Xavier turned towards the door, suddenly releasing his sister that she almost stumble if Ruxs didn't get her in time.
Xavier's canine drop in a blink as he growled at the door like something or someone dangerous will come out of it. His enforcers were suddenly on high alert.
"What? What's wrong Alpha?" Ruxs asked, clamping his hand at Xavier's shoulder forcing him to face him. But Xavier can't looked away from the door.
Xavier's wolf snarled and growled inside of him. Xavier grunted and cursed while he fought to keep his wolf under control. What was wrong with him? What's coming? He'd never had to reign in his wolf this fiercely before.
"I think the Witch King just turn a corner. It seems he is coming this way. Is he the one doing this to you?! I'll kill that bastard!!" Ruxs growled.
"No!" Xavier's voice was sharper and stronger than he intended. He can hear his sister talking to him, wanting to calm him but he's wolf is too agitated. Leaning against the wall farthest from the door, Xavier doesn't remember moving there but now he's too busy controlling his wolf to listen to him.
Xavier close his eyes and tried to center himself. He needed to breathe. To relax. But with each second passing, the feeling intensified.
Ruxs look at his best friend and Alpha, worried. Its the first time Xavier behave like this. So out of control. And he's worried that whatever it is they have to faced they'll have to fight without Xavier, their Alpha because he's in a complete state of disorder. And they needed to protect their Alpha at all cost.
Xavier saw the door knob jiggle, gently turn and the door open. And when he saw him, his world was suddenly turn upside-down.
