REVERIE POV
The rain hammered against the glass pane as I stared down at the parking lot. Kieran tenderly lifted Delilah into the limo, then stared up at me. Our glares clashed like lightning with the thunder that sounded behind him.
I raised a brow in challenge, my arms crossed. Delilah all but yanked him inside, and the door was slammed. That brief moment felt like an eternity.
Kieran’s gaze on me was a rare experience outside of the bedroom, and it gave me goosebumps every single time. I shook my head, none of it matters anymore.
Once the taillights were gone for good, I stormed over to the coat closet in the corner of the room. With a quick look around, I pulled open the door and moved all of my lab jackets and gear to reveal a safe. Tears threatened to spill over, but I held my head up high as I hammered in my codes, then scanned my palm. It clicked open, and I hesitated, my emotions heavy.
Seven years of secrets stared back at me from the dark void. It’d been way past time for me to move on. Since Kieran has clearly forgotten everything I have sacrificed for him, the pack, and ….our secret daughter. Not that he knows about the last one.
I pulled the Seven Year Bond Severance Agreement out once more and read through everything again.
Kieran and I both had a copy, but his grandmother Satori Solvane–despite her love for me–didn’t trust that her grandson would fall in love with me. When she drafted the documents, she made sure that once that expiration date came? Our mate bond automatically dissolved without Kieran’s signature.
Ninety more days.
Then I can reclaim everything that I lost.
The stack of records was a testament to seven years of sacrifice for Kieran. I flicked through some of the documents.
Seven-Year Bond Severance Agreement
Marriage Certificate
Rhiannon’s birth, medical, and school records
Guardianship Records
Hospital Ownership, List of Sale Pre-prepared
Signed Resignation, awaiting a date
Then my gaze drifted around the office; there was no trace of me here.
Without a second thought, I shoved everything into my secure briefcase, locked it, and made my way to the pack house–not the main one, since no one knew I was actually supposed to be the pack’s Luna–but the secondary one.
As per usual, the house was silent. As I entered the corridor, the emotions overwhelmed me to the point of suffocation. Until the overwhelming sense of lust rushed over me.
He’s here. My mate is nearby.
My wolf purred happily, but before I could remind her we were angry at him, she sent desire straight to my core so viciously I nearly stumbled.
As if on cue, the door opened. Kieran entered; I straightened my spine as he kicked off his shoes, covered in her scent, and stalked toward me.
I snarled and turned away, walking deeper into the house to avoid him. I kicked off my own shoes as well. I heard the sound of his shirt as he ripped it off, buttons scattered across the floor like small pinpricks.
“Reverie…’ Kieran growled. His wolf, Asher, was taking over as his footfalls closed in on me. I dodged him as he reached for me.
“NO! I don’t want to see you!” I stumbled and moved every time he got close. The predatory glint of his eye told me he thought this was a game. I rushed toward the back patio exit off of my bedroom.
He finally caught me in the bedroom. Before I could stop him, he grabbed me from behind and ripped open my blouse as he pulled it down. His face buried in my neck, the tingles of our mate bond ricocheted across my body. I unintentionally moaned, and he took it as an invitation as he forcibly turned me around and pinned me against the wall.
For a moment, I surrendered to the Mate bond, my fingers in his hair, and then the whiff of Delilah infiltrated my mind and cracked the illusion. I pushed him away from me and mustered all of my rage into my palm as I smacked him across the face.
He stumbled back in shock. “What. Do. You. Think. You. Are. Doing?”
“Me? Coming in here, saturated in her scent, you think you can lay claim to my body?”
Kieran’s cold gaze landed on me. “Ah, still throwing your little fit from earlier? I got you something to make up for it. You put on a great show.” He sneered and tossed a jewelry box on the bed. “All better? Now can we continue?” He stepped toward me.
His lips crushed against mine as he pushed me onto the bed, the jewelry box corner jabbed into my side. My wolf whimpered, desperate to be sated by her mate. It took so much willpower, but I was able to knee him in the gut and crawl away. The jewelry box clattered to the ground and burst open, revealing a gold bracelet. A cold chuckle escaped me. Seven years, as if all the proof I’d received tonight until that moment wasn’t enough. The Moon Goddess delivered salt to my wounds.
I am allergic to gold.
I jumped to my feet, irritated all over again. “You clearly don’t understand. You disgust me, Kieran. I am done. Let’s activate the bond severance, divide our assets, and divorce. I am tired of playing these childish games with you.”
He scoffed. “You are nothing without me.”
“You and I both know that isn’t true. Unless you’ve truly become delusional.”
“You were a nothing, packless, wandering doctor with no background going nowhere in your life until I found you.”
“Until I saved your greatest assets and your grandmother brought me here. Don’t get it twisted. I only stayed because she asked; the minute I scented you as my mate, I was ready to reject you.”
“Sure, keep throwing that in my face. You are just jealous about Delilah. There is nothing there. I have told you that a thousand times.”
“Kieran. What happened tonight is just one issue in the long list of reasons why this could never work between us. Delilah is the least of our problems.”
He stomped over to the closet and yanked down a shirt. “You are the one that wants a divorce. If it matters so much to you, then you draft it yourself.”
He invaded my space to whisper in my ear. “You won’t, though. We both know exactly where you’ll be in ninety days.”
“Away from you.”
He let out a cold laugh. “You’ll be here on all fours like a good little wife ready to get fucked.”
Just like that, Alpha Kieran Solvane stormed out the door like a petulant toddler.
My gaze drifted around the home; this was the only place that truly held anything for me. My phone rang with a voice message. I clicked on the message, and a video of my beautiful Rhiannon’s face filled the frame.
Her father’s stubborn chin, my defiant eyes.
“HI Mommy! Uncle Leoric said You’ll be able to come home soon! I can’t wait to be with you. I just wanted to tell you I love you and miss you!”
Tears finally streamed down my cheeks. I’m coming, Rhiannon.
