CHAPTER FOUR: GET OFF ME

1561 Words
REVERIE POV The bar was nearly abandoned–the way we preferred– when Uma stormed in like a storm. We made our way to the somewhat secluded and secret booth in the back. I stared out the window; I could clearly see the pack border as the protective barrier glittered in the sun and was filled with both impatience and hope. Just a little longer and I can leave this horrid place for good. The silent sounds of the bar were one of the main reasons Uma and I frequented this bar, as it was close to the pack borders; it was far from the main sect of warriors and the Alpha's core. The bartender, one of Uma's trusted people, nodded as he saw us. Within moments, he brought us our usual drinks. We offered our thanks before he whispered, "Been pretty quiet around here the last few days. Something strange is going on. Be careful." We nodded and took our drinks. Kamari snarled inside of me. Uma sighed in annoyance and pushed her drink away. "What's been going on? I could feel your emotions from a mile away." With a heavy breath, I informed her of everything that led us to that moment. Uma slammed her fist on the table. "Delilah did WHAT at the hospital?" "Yep." "YOUR hospital?" "Yes. I was confused and appalled. Kieran just let it happen. Then, didn't trust my results." "The audacity considering you've saved not his life but nearly how many others in this shithole of a pack? If anything, you should be getting awarded tenfold; you should be LUNA. They should all be worshipping the ground you walk on!" "That's not why I do what I do Uma and I don't care about being Luna, never have.." "I know. That's why this is maddening! I always knew that b***h was a snake. But a w***e too? I should've expected this the way she has draped herself over them both for years." That garnered a snort from me. "Let's just get you out of here. Why wait ninety days? Let's retrieve the precious cargo and disappear. Let Kieran have his little slut Delilah so they can live happily ever after. Draven should've been Alpha, Kieran should've been the one caught up in all these accidents over the years." "Uma, I don't want to wish harm on anyone. I need to finish this out and then Kieran and Delilah can continue their twisted little love story game with their little forbidden love child and–" There was a snarl from around the booth. Kamari's senses ignited inside me as Kieran's Beta, Adrian, approached, his red wolf, Poe, at the forefront. I rolled my eyes in response, then rose to my feet. "What? Kieran demote you to the responsibility of following me now?" "None of your business what I do for the Alpha. You are the one out here sinking so low as to spread rumors about him and Delilah," he snapped. Uma jumped to her feet, ready to set the record straight, but I stopped her. "Beta Adrian, I have done nothing wrong. Why don't you just run along? Hard to spread rumors when there is hardly anyone in this bar." I motioned around the near-empty bar for emphasis. "Yeah, and while you are at it, make a pit stop at the hospital and see how Draven feels about his wife sleeping with his brother." "Uma." I chastised, albeit halfheartedly, and placed a palm to my face. Within moments, Kieran arrived with his entourage–including Delilah, who wore a predatory and triumphant grin. "Your mindlink works fast," I said to the Beta. "Well, if we cared enough to add you to it, you would've known that." He snapped back. I laughed and crossed my arms as the crowd around Kieran grew. "Love that everyone keeps reminding me that I don't actually belong to this pack." Uma smirked and placed her hands on her hips. "Yet, here they all are, wasting all this time on you." "Don't read anything into it, Reverie. You need to apologize to Delilah." Kieran replied. I nodded and tapped my chin. "Tell me, Alpha, what am I apologizing for this time?" "Delilah is not pregnant. You only said that to get under our skin because you're jealous that I've been spending so much time with her while Draven has been sick. I double-checked with another Doctor." Kieran said and waved some documents in my face. I laughed as I caught the name. "Who just so happens to be on her family's payroll? How convenient." "My family has nothing to do with this. Admit your lies and apologize to my sister now." Beta Adrian snatched the documents and shoved them in my face. These people are so delusional; they think I want to be the center of their Alpha's world this badly? "Do it, Reverie. Don't make this uglier than it already is. Be a good girl and do as you're told." I raised a brow. Kamari pushed to the surface, but I pushed her back down. "Fine," I said and placed a hand over my heart dramatically. Delilah's mouth curved upward as if she had finally won the battle. I stepped around them towards the door, Uma on my heels as if she could read my mind. "I'm sorry, Alpha Kieran. For believing my marriage of seven years could actually blossom into something worthy of attention and dedication, rather than the convenient arrangement it started as. I apologize for taking up so much of your time with my loyalty and devotion. Fighting for your attention while staying true to my marriage vows, where I should've just let you put your wandering eye where it belongs." Kieran looked confused and taken aback before stepping toward Delilah. "AS for you, Mrs. Draven Solvane, I am so sorry for standing in your way to get to Kieran. I should've known you belonged to both brothers, not just one. I also apologize for not stepping aside and realizing it sooner when you showed up to my emergency room with certain symptoms that have a very questionable timeline. Unlike the Alpha and Beta, though, I strive to protect personal medical information rather than announce it to the pack. No matter who they are." Delilah's expression shattered as I turned and walked away. "You're welcome!" I cried. "Have a great day, Luna Delilah!" Uma echoed sarcastically. Within moments, Kieran caught up to us in an alley and yanked my arm to turn me to face him, his wolf Asher shone in his eyes. . "What the f**k was that, Reverie?" "What? Just because you want to deny the truth doesn't mean it isn't true." Kieran pressed me against the wall and inhaled my scent. "Hey!" Uma cried and tried to pry him off of me. He shoved her off, and she nearly fell to the ground. "Stay out of this. This is between mates." Uma moved to retaliate, but I stopped her. "Uma, it's okay. Kieran, let me go now." "I said this is between mates," he snarled. His eyes glowed the color of his wolf. "Oh, now you remember I am your mate? Get off me. I want nothing to do with you." I shoved him off, and he attempted to grab me once more, but I sidestepped and dodged. "Playing hard to get now? You put on a great show to get my attention, and now you have it. Don't act like you aren't using this cheap ' I'm independent' attitude just to get under my skin. You've always been docile; you just felt the need to step up your game. Now I'm here." Tears stung my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. I shook my head at him in disgust. "This might be hard for you to comprehend, but not everything revolves around you, Kieran. I am done playing your games." "Keep misbehaving, and you'll find yourself stuck at the border clinic until you remember who owns you. I gave you a home when you had nothing. Never forget that your life is mine. You can start showing your gratitude tonight in that red nightie I like." "You are disgusting. I am not going anywhere near you with or without a red nightie. Why don't you ask Delilah to put it on? I am sure it'll look better on her anyway." Kieran put his hand around my throat. "Keep testing me, Reverie, and moving to the pack border clinic will be a blessing compared to the dungeon I will put you in instead. Leave Delilah alone." "I hope the two of you have a long and happy life together." I snarled and kicked him away from me before I stormed off. First stop, drop the official resignation back at the hospital. Second stop, grab the rest of my items from the house. Third stop? Set up my border safehouse. Whether he liked it or not, I was moving far away from Alpha Kieran and his circus family. Just hang in there, Rhiannon. Mommy's almost there. I picked up my phone and dialed. Leoric's deep, velvety voice came through after the first ring. "Rev." Chills raced across my body, and Kamari purred inside. "Prepare my room, Leo. I'm coming home." "Your room is always ready. The only thing missing…is you."
