Hylee was playing her role perfectly, but I wasn’t fooled. We had a plan of our own.
“Where is everyone else?” she asked yet again and I ignored her question.
“Where are the other witches?” I asked instead. Hylee looked surprised and if I hadn’t been watching her, I would’ve missed it. A look of worry came over her face and I already knew what she was thinking. How was she going to explain it?
“Oh, we hid out behind the dining hall,” she said, and I knew she was lying. However, she didn’t know that I knew that, so I nodded thoughtfully.
“We should get them,” I said.
“No!” she yelled out and I pretended to frown.
“What? Why?” I asked.
“Oh, um…it’s just that…well, why don’t you stay here, and I’ll go get them?” she suggested. I looked at her and then slowly nodded.
