Chapter Eighteen - Time Out

“I’m bored,” I announced to no one in particular. It was the truth. All I wanted was to be out there with my mate. I missed her already and I saw her three times a day. I would get to see her again later for dinner. However, in the meantime, I was bored as hell. When the door suddenly opened and Keanu walked in, I sat up and watched him curiously.

“Hey, wolves! Listen up!” he called out. Every single one of us stared at the man in green. “You have all shown great restraint and obedience. We’ve decided to give you a little bit of free time outside. Let’s call it a time out,” Keanu walked alongside the gate and smiled. “There are rules, same as before, so, no shifting!”

“Aw!” I groaned out. My wolf needed to run, to be free.

“You can go off and explore the island but not wander off too far,” he added. “A guard will be following you around, so be good, ok?” he didn’t wait for us to respond as he unlocked the gate. The one thing that stood out to me was him mentioning an island. So, we were on an island, and the prospect of exploring kind of sounded interesting. I had to wonder if the others would be outside during this time out. “You have an hour!” Keanu called out before opening the door. Walking out, I could see the other buildings and the other shifters venturing out. I kept my eyes open for Darcy. I spotted her hurrying out and I didn’t bother to wait for anyone as I rushed towards her.

“Hey,” she breathed out and I couldn’t help but just smile at her. “Can you believe it? A time out?” she glanced around her, but I only had eyes for her.

“Yeah, it’s great,” I mumbled out. I felt shy and unsure of myself and I didn’t quite like it. I wanted to take her hand, walk with her, spend time with her but I wasn’t sure what she wanted. After all, we had both been locked up. It was our first time out. Maybe she wanted to mingle. Maybe she wanted to explore. Maybe she-

“War?”

“Yeah?”

“Would you like to go exploring with me?” Darcy blushed the cutest shade of pink and I acted on impulse and grabbed her hand.

“Yeah, I’d love too,” we wandered off along the path and I could tell that one of the guards was watching us, following us, but that didn’t bother me. As we walked around, we didn’t say much but that was ok. It was nice just being close to her like this. Of course, I had questions, but I didn’t want her to feel like I was interrogating her.

“War, can I ask you something?” Darcy stopped and faced me. I nodded, curious as to what she wanted to ask. “Are you ok with the fact that I am a lion shifter?”

“What?” her question took me completely by surprise. “I mean, I wasn’t expecting that,”

“Are you disappointed?” she asked softly. I reached out and pulled her close. I didn’t want to frighten her or anything, but I needed her to understand me.

“No, I am not disappointed. In fact, I love the fact that you are different. We get to learn new things about each other. You aren’t a wolf, and I am not a lion,” I explained to her. It wasn’t easy trying to tell her how I felt but I pushed forward. “I honestly had no thoughts on my mate, when I picked up on your scent, it never once bothered me that you aren’t a wolf. I love that about you,”

“Really?”

“Yeah, Darcy, really,” I pressed my lips against her forehead and pulled back. “I’m quite curious about your life, would you please tell me about it and you…”

“Of course,” she said as we started walking again. I was still aware of the guard following us and it crossed my mind that we should’ve been looking for a way off this island. “I’ve lived my whole life in Shadow Husk Pride and I’ve never thought about leaving. When I first woke up here, I was terrified to be away from home, from my family. Meeting you has made that a lot easier,” she informed me, and I nodded as I plucked the front of my top. I was getting hot. “Being a lion is so…well, for me obviously but it is so free and it makes me feel good when I shift,”

“Does your lioness talk to you; I mean is she apart of you the way we have wolves that are apart of us?” I asked curiously.

“In a way, yes, I am not sure if it is the same, but we are one,”

“Yeah,” I agreed. It didn’t matter that we were different.

“Hey, War?”

“Yeah?”

“Have any of the other wolves found their mates here?” she asked, and I nodded.

“Yeah, all my cousins have, I just don’t know about any of the others. Liam isn’t aware his mate is here though,” I told her. We had gotten quite far, and I stopped to look around me. I had to say, this island was a paradise. The palm trees stood tall and the leaves made wonderful shade from the blazing heat of the sun. I had spotted a couple of coconut trees, but I wasn’t a fan of the stuff. The soft green grass was bright, and the assorted flowers and other bushes stood out proudly. Overall, it was quite amazing to be here. As I stood looking around with my mate by side, I suddenly heard something.

“What is it?” Darcy asked and I glanced back at the guard. He was watching us closely and I nodded over in the direction of the noise. He looked that way, smiled, and then nodded. I took Darcy’s hand and led her towards the noise. I was quite pleasantly surprised to see that the noise was in fact coming from a large waterfall.

I couldn’t get over how natural it felt being with Warrity. He made me feel so relaxed and comfortable. Even though he had asked me to tell him more about myself, I didn’t mind taking a break from that. The view in front of me was breathtakingly beautiful and I had honestly never seen anything like it before in my life. A graceful waterfall stood tall and proud before us. The waterfalls over what looked to be a rocky ledge and dives into the pool of crystal blue water below.

“Shall we?” War suggested and I nodded eagerly. It would be lovely to go for a swim, so I didn’t hesitate to follow him to the edge of the rocky bank. War pulled off his top and pants to reveal his mouthwatering sexy body and the cutest pair of teddy bear boxers. He didn’t look back as he dived into the water. I quickly pulled off my own top and pants and followed him. The water was a lot cooler than I had been expecting but it wasn’t too cold. I came up for air and saw War swimming towards the water flowing down. I went under once more before going after him. When I came up, we were on the other side of the cascading water and it was just as beautiful here. Warrity was watching me closely and I wondered if he would kiss me. Earlier, he had kissed my forehead and I would be lying if I said I didn’t want more.

“This is amazing,” I whispered as I stared over at him.

“You are amazing,” he said, and I smiled. He wasn’t checking me out or anything, he was just looking at me and that made me feel that what was happening between us was good. I slowly made my way towards him, making sure not to break eye contact with him. When I reached him, he pulled me right up against his broad muscular chest and I easily wrapped my arms around his neck and my legs around his waist. The position we were in was hot but the connection between us was deeper.

“I really like you War,” I whispered as I gazed up at him.

“I like you too, Darcy,” he said as he leaned in and I held my breath, waiting for our first kiss. When Warrity went straight past my mouth, I felt somewhat disappointed. “I’d really like to kiss you right now, the setting is so romantic, but I don’t want to rush anything,” he whispered in my ear. His hot breath against my cool, wet, skin made me shiver with delight. I wanted to tell him it was ok, that he could kiss me, but I couldn’t form any words. I was lost in his eyes. I was lost in him.

“Look out below!” a loud male voice suddenly broke through our romantic, intimate moment. I spotted a dark shadow as whoever it was had jumped off the ledge above and then the loud splash as he broke through the water.

“Now I wish I had just kissed you,” Warrity whispered before he slowly released me. I followed him back out into the open and saw another male and female swimming around. “Always making a noise, huh,” I didn’t know them, so I had nothing to say as I kept myself just behind Warrity.

“Aw man, you found this place first?” the guy spat out, clearly annoyed. The female that was with him, slapped his arm.

“Don’t mind us, but who is your little friend?” she asked. I felt War tense up as he moved to the side, revealing myself to them. The female smiled so warmly that any negative fears I had left. “Oh! She is adorable, who is she?” the female swam towards us.

“Terri, this is my mate, Darcy,” he introduced.

“Hi, Darcy, nice to meet you,” Terri said with a smile.

“Yeah, nice to meet you too,”

“And I’m Chandler,” the male said as he swam closer. “So, War, you found your mate here, that’s cool. What kind of shifter are you?” he asked me.

“Lion shifter,” Warrity answered as he took a small step in front of me. I knew he was feeling protective over me and I didn’t mind it.

“Ok, ok, relax,” Chandler pulled Terri away and they swam off to the other side. Warrity turned around to face me and I reached out and caressed his jaw.

“Only you,” I promised.

“Only you,” he repeated. I smiled softly up at my mate and when he leaned in, I knew that this time, he was going to kiss me. I could feel his hands pulling me closer on my bare sides and even though the water gently lapped up against us, I didn’t miss the way his fingers softly dug into my skin. My heartbeat had gone up a notch or two and I all I could hear was the pounding sound it made, and I momentarily wondered if he could hear it too. I watched as he got closer and closer and, at that moment, time stood still. When his lips finally met mine, everything I had ever known disappeared. It was just the two of us, in this pool of water. I could feel his hot breath as he breathed in and out through his nose and I found it exciting as I pushed myself up, closer to him. I wrapped my arms around his neck and the kiss we shared deepened. His tongue brushed against my lips and I shuddered from the sheer feel of him. I parted slowly, giving him the access he so desired. It was a kiss to remember. A moment in time to remember.

“Woah,” was all I could say when he pulled back. The look on his face was flushed, hot and his lustful eyes had me panting with want and need. Something I had never experienced before. I watched as his lips spread into a smile so utterly sexy that I reached for him and pressed my lips against his once more. Nothing this good could only happen once.
