Chapter Two - Twins

2350 Words
❤Colin “Colin! Tina!” I scoffed when I heard mom call us. I couldn’t help but smirk over at Tina. I was waiting patiently for her to lose the bet. “Well, now what?” she asked me curiously and I shrugged, she knew the rules, and yet she was acting dumb. “Oh, come on now Tina, you know how this ends,” I said with my normal cocky attitude. I ran my fingers through my short blonde hair as I watched her closely. I knew we had exactly one more minute before our mom shouted out for us again. “You knew!” she suddenly burst out and I couldn’t help but laugh. “Ah, you know me oh so well,” I teased playfully, she was right, I had timed this out perfectly. “Colin and Tina! Get in here! Now!” mom yelled out, this time sticking her head out the back door to glare at us. Tina sighed and rolled her eyes as she got up and headed towards the house. My mother hated us not being ready when dinner was going to be served and she believed we had to be washed up and clean before sitting down to eat. “You give up then?” I asked her as I quickly fall into step beside her. “I don’t have a choice and you knew that,” she mumbled. I wanted to push just a little bit more, but I figured it wouldn’t do me any good to poke the bear. Instead, I gently brushed my shoulder against hers and gave her a winning smile. “I’ll let this one go,” I said as we made our way inside. “Aww…really?” her grey eyes sparkled as the sarcastic words rolled off her tongue, this made me laugh hard. We entered the kitchen and Emily smiled when she turned around to look at us. “You kids playing nice or what?” she asked. Both Tina and I rolled our eyes. “Mom, we aren’t kids anymore,” Tina huffed out. “Ah, just because you turned twenty a couple of months ago doesn’t mean you are no longer my kids,” she pointed out and I chuckled. “Don’t forget, your father is stopping by tomorrow,” the playful and loving tone left her voice when she reminded us. I stole a look at her and sighed. Mom definitely was not looking forward to the visit. As usual. I knew it was hard for her to see him with his wife. Although he was coming to see us and not her, she would have to entertain them. It was never easy, and it was always uncomfortable. “We should go and see him instead,” I suggested. Emily turned to look at me and I could already see the relief in her eyes. “Then things don’t have to be…” my voice trailed off as I thought of a word that wouldn’t offend my mother. “Awkward!” Tina sang out and I nodded. Emily smiled at both of us and I knew she was grateful, regardless. “Well, that suits me just fine,” she turned her attention back to the pot she had on the stove. “Just give him a call and let him know you’ll be visiting him instead,” she said. “Actually, we should probably go and stay there for a bit,” Tina said softly. I glanced back over at my mother to gauge her reaction, but she surprised me by nodding her head. “I think he would like that,” she said. “You don’t mind?” I asked curiously. “I always mind but you two haven’t gone to visit him for a while, I am sure he would enjoy having you guys there for a few days,” she said as she turned the stove off and turned around to face us once again. “Besides, it will do you two some good,” she added. I couldn’t help but laugh, my mother wasn’t stupid, she knew that Tina was losing at being a wolf. I stopped laughing as I realized that as much as my sister was failing at being a wolf, I was failing at being a witch. “Where’s Dylan?” I asked changing the subject. “Oh, Trevor’s got him,” “He is home?” this was a surprise; Trevor wasn’t normally home before dinner. “He just came to pick up Dylan for a check-up,” mom explained, and I nodded. “Now, go and call your father and then come down for dinner,” she added as she got busy again in the kitchen. I headed out and I heard Tina offer her help. I thought back to earlier and smirked as I picked up my phone to call my dad. “Hello Colin,” came his rich deep voice over the line. “Hey, dad,” “What’s up?” he asked casually, and I took a deep breath. “So, we know that you were going to stop by tomorrow, but Tina and I were thinking that maybe we should come and stay with you for a couple of days,” I said. “Really?” he asked hopefully, and I felt a pang of guilt. Mom was right, we haven’t gone to see him in a long time. “Really dad,” “We’d love that, when would you two be leaving?” he asked and although Tina and I hadn’t discussed it, I knew she wouldn’t have a problem with whatever decision I made. “We’ll leave first thing in the morning,” I said. “Wonderful, then we will see you tomorrow afternoon,” we chatted for a little while longer before hanging up. This whole thing was a great idea. Tina and I would get to spend some time together, just the two of us and then we’d get to spend some time with our father. I headed back downstairs, and I could already hear my family’s loud voices coming from the kitchen. I stood by the doorway and watched as my mother dished up her famous mango chicken rice dish. Sabrina was chatting away about her day as she stuffed her mouth and I chuckled as I saw Tina throw her a look of disgust as rice flew out of her mouth. Tessa was, as usual, sitting on Trevor’s lap as she ate. I went in and sat down. This is my crazy family and I love them. Mom was feeding Dylan and the young pup was not enjoying the food. I laughed as I watched him use his little hands to push away the spoon. Yeah, I love my family. ❤Tina Getting up before the sun was not my idea of fun but since my dearest brother had decided we would leave so early; I didn’t have much of a choice. “Are you ready yet?” he asked from my bedroom door and I rolled my eyes. Instead of answering him, I took my overnight bag and gave it to him. He took it with a small smile and left me to get finished. Honestly, I wasn’t looking forward to this trip. Sure, I missed my dad and even Carol-Ann, but I hated being away from my mom. Not only that but my father insisted that I use my wolfie abilities. I don’t know why but I was more of a witch than a wolf. I wonder if I should tell them that my wolf went silent a long time ago? That was one of the reasons I couldn’t shift anymore. My wolf wasn’t exactly gone, she was just…hibernating. I finished putting on my shoes and made my bed before heading downstairs. My mother and Trevor were standing at the door with Colin, all of them waiting for me. Great. “Hey honey,” Trevor said as he spotted me. “Morning,” I greeted them as I went into the kitchen. If Colin thought I was going to just get into the car without my morning cup of coffee, then he has another thing coming. “Sweetie, Colin has a flask for you in the car,” I heard my mother say. Oh, of course, he did. Oh, wonderful Colin, perfect Colin, always thought of everything. “I packed some snacks and stuff for you,” she said, and I turned around and tried to smile. “Oh, sweetie, what’s wrong?” she asked as she rushed over to me. I grabbed her and pulled her into a warm hug. “I’m going to miss you,” I admitted softly. My mother is my everything, she is my role model and inspiration. “I’ll miss you too,” I heard her respond. Ok, time to stop being a baby. I gently pulled away from her and looked into her beautiful silver eyes. “I’m just a call away,” I said seriously. “Call me if you need me and I’ll be home before you blink,” “Ok,” she said with a soft giggle and I smiled. “I love you, mom,” “I love you too sweetie, now you better get going before Colin comes in here and drags you by your hair to the car,” we laughed as we left the kitchen and headed outside. I had said goodbye to Tessa, Sabrina, and Dylan the night before, but I quickly hugged Trevor before getting into the car with Colin. As he turned on the engine, I hurried to wipe the tears from my eyes. Why on earth was I crying? I shook my head as Colin left the packhouse and village. Soon we were on the main road and I grabbed the flask. “Your name should’ve been Coffee,” Colin teased, and I rolled my eyes at my i***t brother. “Right and your name should’ve been i***t,” I snapped back before taking a large gulp of the hot sweet liquid. “Anyway, are you looking forward to this?” he asked, and I nodded. “Yeah, I mean, I’ll miss mom, but it’ll be good to see dad again,” “True,” he said before silence fell between us. I reached over and flipped on the radio. After choosing my favorite radio station, I leaned back in my seat and relaxed. Maybe this trip wouldn’t be so bad after all. ❤ “I’m beat,” I heard Colin complain and I smiled. Of course, he was. “How much further until the next stop?” he asked. I looked down at my phone. “Not far, about a mile or two,” I said. “Great, you can drive from there,” he said, and I nodded. I didn’t have a problem with driving. Especially since he has been driving since we left home. I quickly sent mom a message, updating her on our location. As I looked up, I could see the stop up ahead and I could feel the relief coming off from Colin. When the turn off came, Colin took it and parked alongside the pump. I got out and headed to the restroom while he filled up the car. This was the last stop before we would reach The Blue Moon Pack. Once I was done, I headed back to the car, but I didn’t see Colin around. I hopped into the driver’s seat. I wasn’t too worried; he probably went into the small shop for something. I took out my phone and smiled at my mother’s response. Mom -          I hope you are having fun on your trip so far. I love you Tina -          Sure, mom, Colin is such a pleasure Mom -          Be safe and let me know when you’ve arrived Tina -          Ok, love you too I smiled as I sent the message and sat back waiting for Colin. When I heard my favorite song on the radio, I turned up the sound just a tad bit more. I bounced along to the song in my seat and drummed my fingers on the steering wheel. When the song ended, I glanced over at the shop. Where the hell was Colin and why the hell was, he taking so long? Surely, he was all done by now. Maybe he went to the little boy’s room. I distracted myself as I waited but after two more songs, panic set in and I took the keys from the ignition and got out. I stared at the shop and took a deep breath. Investigator Tina Kahn officially on duty. I headed inside but the place was empty. There wasn’t even a cashier around. I went around to the restrooms and pushed open the men’s door. “Colin? Are you in there?” I called out. When I heard no response, I really started to panic. Not sure what to do, I hurried back to the car. “Where the hell did, he go?” I asked myself as I struggled to unlock the car. Fear took over as I saw a reflection in the window, and I froze. Oh s**t! I thought before someone hit me over the head. Darkness took over as I slumped against the side of the car to the ground. Colin! Help!
