Chapter 7

2152 Words
For the next few days, Lark and John stayed at the villa, content with looking after their mates. Of course the two girls have no idea what they meant to the two man. Licht was stationed by Maris to be in charge of Lark's room and office. She was adamant at first but it was an order so she obeyed. For her, the mate pull and constant sparks that erupts when they touch is scary and exciting at the same time. She had no idea why she was attracted to her employer. It was the first time she actually looked at a man properly. Licht can't help but notice his dark eyes framed by lush eyelashes. His ebony hair looked so soft that she wanted reach out to touch it. And as much as she wanted to stop, her eyes often wandered towards his lips. It was bad when he was talking to her and she was suddenly drawn to it. If it was possible to explode, her head might've done that a long time ago. There are a lot of times when she found him looking at her. Or he caught her looking at him. What the hell is happening? But to be honest, what she liked the most was that he became gentler at her after apologizing. He and his bestfriend John even help them when it comes to certain chores, mostly when it comes to climbing or carrying heavy things. They tried to stop them but they are very persistent. Licht often wandered why the hell they're so nice and careful of them. Heck, they even ordered that they eat at the same time. What boss eats along his maids? As weird at it was, they became used to it after a few times. Clara was still her shy self and she became much more conscious with John around. And boy did he always followed her. Licht fondly looked at her work as she tapped the dirt off her dress. "Oh it's so beautiful. You have a talent for this!" Maris gushed from behind her, eyes shining as she looked at Licht's creation. She beamed at the compliment. Since the house really looked gloomy and sinister. She took it upon her to liven things up and put some color on the villa. When they went to the store to replenish the groceries, she found a flower shop selling different kinds of seedlings and blooms that she can't help but ask the older woman if she can revive the old garden beside the villa. Maris of course asked Lark first. Fishing the cellular phone from her pocket since mindlinking and knowing his answer would baffle the girls. It took a few rings before his gruff voice was heard. "Is something wrong Maris? Why'd you call me through cell?" Lark asked, worried if something happened to his mate or what. He was against them leaving the house alone but he can't always follow her without raising suspicion or being called a creep. He heard the older woman laugh at his reaction before stating her reason for calling. "Oh Lark you silly boy. Of course we're fine. They're with me you know." She replied teasingly. "Maris." He said a bit warningly and she only laughed again. "Patience boy, it won't kill you. Anyway, before you finally burst a blood vessel, Licht have something to ask from you." Hearing her name, Licht shook her head when Maris smiled at her slyly. "What for?" Lark asked but he was glad that his mate want something from him. Whatever it was, he'd give her anything. It was a shame that she was still reserved after a few days had passed but he can be patient as Maris said. He can't overwhelm her with something as big as his secret. "Licht will tell you, here." Maris stretched the phone at the anxious girl, she could only chuckle a little at her red face. Licht took the phone with hesitation, glaring at the older woman for setting her up like that. "Uhm, Sir." she started unsure, Lark hated being called by that by his mate so he quicly rectified her. "How many times have I told you to just call me Lark. Sir sounds too old." He replied, loving the frustrated huff he heard on the other line. "Many times, Sir." she replied unknowingly. "And you just did it again." He couldn't help but grin when she mumbled a small sorry over the phone. As if he could be angry at her for something like that. "It's fine, what is it that you wanted to ask?" he said, he could almost picture her hesitating at telling him something. It really bothered him but he always reminded himself that she was human. She had no idea what she meant to him. Not yet anyways. "Uhm, you see, Si- I mean Lark. I wanted to- Uhm..." She trailed off unsure. Berating herself how pathetic she's being. Licht was known for her direct to the point attitude and self confidence but all of those flew off the window when it comes to Lark. She always feel so shy and stuttering in front of him. But he was so patient with her and she love him. 'I loved IT, not him. Licht get a hold of yourself!' She chastised herself. Cheeks turning red once more. "Yes? What is it Licht?" She gritted her teeth when a pleasant shiver run down her spine from hearing her name pass through his lips. Gaining confidence she spoke again. "I just want to revive your garden. I'll even pay for the seedling on my own. I just want to make your villa livelier." She rushed, worried that he may be insulted when she practically told him that his house looked gloomy. Instead, she heard him chuckle a little, those lovely sound doing something to her stomach. "Of course you can. But you won't be spending a single penny on those. Just choose all the plants you want and I will pay for it." He told her. Licht can't help the grin that spread on her face when he gave his permission. "Oh thank you Lark!" She gushed excitedly. Lark smiled at her enthusiasm, now he wished that he was with her to see her beautiful smile. All he could do is smile himself. It's only been a few days but she'd already gave back joy and color to his life and he was grateful for it. "Just be quick and come back here again. Okay." He commanded, Licht was so happy that she didn't even care that he just ordered her. "Yes we will. Thank you again!" She said beaming. Ever since she was a child, Licht had always been fond of flowers and plants. She had a few potted ones on their house. Though most of them are herbs for consumption and were cheap. But she had always dreamed of having her own garden to tend and grow herself. Maris and Clara laughed at her side, seeing how excited she was. "He said okay!" she gushed out proudly. Maris never doubted that he would say no but this helped him get brownie points from the girl. They all went inside the flower shop. Maris told her that she's free to buy anything she wants since Lark allowed her. The old woman shook her head, a smile painted on her face. Lark was already spoiling her, and she loves how Licht always made the stern alpha smile. And now she finally finished arranging the blooms, ferns and seedlings on the new garden. A burst of green, pink, yellow and other colors greeted their eyes. Licht stared at it proudly. "Wow!" Clara said in wonder as she looked at the array of different flora. Licht beamed at her. "It is beautiful." She heard Lark said, eyeing the colorful flowers, a content smile on his face. Licht smiled shyly at him. "Thank you for allowing me to do this." she thanked him again. He turned to look at her, liking the smile that she threw at him. "I should be the one thanking you. You're really good at this." He complimented her, earning him a beautiful blush that could rival the color of the rose. There was a lot of different flowers like roses, carnations, lilies, daisies, orchids and more on the open garden while some of the fragile and exotic blooms are inside the small greenhouse she found and cleaned. "Now your place doesn't look sad anymore." John joked, appearing beside Clara surprising her a bit. He casually brushed his arms to hers liking the way she shivered at their contact. Lark glared at his bestfriend but nodded nonetheless. Though the colors and happiness wasn't due to these flowers but to the girl smiling sweetly in front of him. "You're in charge of this now. If you want anything else. Don't hesitate to ask me. Okay?" he told her. Leaning near to her a bit. Maris coughed at the side, throwing a teasing glance at him. He narrowed his eyes at her but she just looked forward with a smirk on her lips. She just can't help teasing her alpha so much. Lark turned to Licht again and found her beaming at her. She quickly looked away when he saw her. Fidgeting a bit on her place. He couldn't help the amused chuckle from getting out. She looked too cute for her own good. Thankfully, his wolf understood the complexity of their situation, so it was content to be near her. But he knew time will come that he won't be able to stop his wolf or himself from wanting her to be his. But even though she's a human and made it harder for him. He wouldn't have her for anything else. His quiet musings was interrupted by an urgent voice in his mind. 'Alpha there's a problem near the eastern border.' He heard one of the border patrol say in his head. He quickly turned rigid. Licht noticed it and looked at him in worry. He relaxed again seeing her reaction. But his face did turn serious, brows furrowed in concentration. 'What is it?' He swear, if it's another rogue attack, he would kill all of them. How dare they come near her mate. 'What is it?" He asked fuming. He could already predict what they would say. He caught John and Maris' worried expression and he conveyed his unease as well. 'It's rogues Sir. And they've came so near!' He heard them say and he could only curse under his breath. Licht once again looked at her worriedly, eyes asking him what was wrong. He would torture those rogues for making her look like that. 'Why'd you let them be so close? Nevermind, hold them off. I'll be there.' He commanded at them. Rage filling his whole body, making him shake. His wolf was closer to the front, clawing to get out and tear to those rogues. Maris stared at her worriedly and John was poised to get the two away if he suddenly shifted. But Licht was first to touch him, concerned for his sudden attitude. She placed her hand on his arm and it pulled him out of the rage he'd been feeling and a quick rush of calmness overwhelmed him. "Are you alright, Lark?" Her smooth voice made his wolf receed back and calm down once again. He looked at her gratefully. Licht was happy to see his eyes were back to their normal shade. She was surprised to see it turn so dark earlier. She actually worried that he found something wrong with her work. "I'm sorry. I just remembered something that I should do for my work." He lied, he didn't want to lie to her but it was too early for her to learn that he was something she only thought as myths or fairytales. He could lose her and he woudn't allow that. She can't know that he was a werewolf. Not yet. He looked at her sadly, missing the warmth of her hand when she suddenly retrieved it. He hated seeing her like this. "I'm sorry. Maris go back to the house and don't leave it." He ordered and the older woman ushered the two back to the villa. Both had a confused expression on their faces. John of course stayed knowing already what ticked his alpha. "There were rogues right?" He asked turning serious. Lark nodded, his earlier anger coming back full force now that Licht was gone from his side. "Let's go. They already got so close." He commanded, and John nodded. When they got farther from the house did they only shifted. Running full speed to confront those bastards that continued to set his nerves on edge. He promised that he would tear all rogues after he got his hands on them.
