Chapter 5

1850 Words
Licht was back from doing grocery and was about to put the items to the kitchen when she stumbled upon Clara and an unknown man standing there happily chatting. She coughed first to get their attention before bowing down thinking that the man in the room was their boss. "Hello sir, my name's Licht your new maid." She said politely but was surprised when she heard a laugh coming from the man. "Please raise your head, I'm not your boss, rather I'm his best friend John, so stop being polite." he said to the other girl that he now knew is Licht. Licht stood there dumbfounded and embarrassed for being wrong. "I'm very sorry Sir for mistaking you for our boss." She immediately apologized but he just waved her apology aside. "I told you its fine, okay?" John said to Licht and he stretched his hands for her to take and seeing that he's actually friendly smiled back and took his hand to shake. "Oh Licht, you're already here and you've met John, that's nice." Maris said when she suddenly entered the kitchen startling the three as they look at her. "Heh, so where's Lark? We should eat already, we haven't eaten when we left the pac... office, yeah." John scratched the back of his neck for almost slipping. Maris sent him a disapproving glare while he just smiled in apology. "Of course, now sit down, Lark is up his room." Maris said putting the dishes on the table. "Clara please help me arrange this and Licht go to Lark's room and tell him that food is ready." She said while picking up the groceries Licht left. "Oh and tell him that he should go down or else I'll kick him and drag him down here if needed to." Maris sternly commanded, Licht obeyed but with hesitation, somehow when she came back she had this stupid indescribable feeling inside of her that she hated and now every step she took put a bursting feeling of excitement. "This is stupid, why do I have to be the one to call him?" She grumbled as she tried to suppress the excitement welling inside her. 'Stop it self what the hell are you excited about?' she talked to herself, confused of the feeling. After a few moments she was finally standing outside Lark's door, her heart increasing in beat due to nervousness. "What's wrong with you?" She mumbled, hitting herself as she steadied her breathing and slowing her heart rate, but to no avail it just kept increasing the longer she stayed there. So she just decided to get over with it and call him out. Raising her hand and forming it into a fist she knocked, patiently waiting for an answer. -- Lark laid on his bed, one hand fisted on his hair as he pondered about his problems. First he can't think of a plan dealing with those stupid rogues and that stupid man, now he's envious of his best friend for finally finding his mate while he drowns himself from sadness and longing here in his bedroom. A sigh left his lips as he pulled himself out of his bed, walking towards the big window on his room looking outside. "I shouldn't act like this, I'm an Alpha for God's sake!" he berated himself as he punched a hole on the wall breathing heavily to calm his self. When he was finally calm enough, he decided to sit on the window sill to observe the outside of his house. A clear frown and sadness rolled of off him looking at the lifeless surrounding. "Even my house is full of gloom, reflecting me its owner." he mumbled as he kept his gaze outside. A knock ruined his train of thought, he spared a glance at his door waiting for the person to speak. When no one responded he decided to take a whiff to know who it is. When he did, he smelt the most alluring smell 'cherry and pine,' he thought and he doesn't really know how those two smell fitted well together. The tingling feeling he felt when he first entered his house earlier came back but now it's more pronounced. He snapped out of it when another knock resounded from the door. 'What the hell am I doing?' he thought not really understanding what's happening. "What the hell's wrong with you?" he asked his wolf, feeling it running on his mind barking something incoherent. Giving up trying to understand his wolf he looked back at the window, drowning in sadness once again. Then another knock was heard from his door making him pissed, he's not really in a conversing mood today but he decided to speak anyway but in a harsh tone. "What do you want?" he asked irritation clear in his voice. Licht stood there outside the door when on her third knock the occupant of the room finally answered, she detected irritation from his voice and although she hated to admit it she felt scared by the power that voice held. Composing herself she answered, "Maris said that the food is ready and you should come down to eat, Sir." She said loudly waiting for the other person to respond. "I'm not hungry, tell her I won't come down." He commanded feeling stressed but not hungry. Licht huffed, Maris told her to make him go down and she will. May he be the master or not. "Maris said that you should come down or else she will kick and drag you down struggling." She rephrased Maris' words from earlier. Lark become more pissed at the girl outside his door for being persistent. "I'm the owner here so if I say I will not go down, I will not." He said, he was thoroughly aggravated when she still persisted. He's definitely not in a good mood today and he wants to stay inside his room for solitude but this girl is pushing it and he's starting to get angry now as he stomped towards the door flinging it violently open. "Don't you understand when I said that I don't want to go down?!" He said with malice as he backed up and encased the now very frightened Licht on the wall. Licht trembled and tears started to prick her eyes as she cowers at the man's intensity. This was a man that could hurt her physically, though a part of her doesn't believe that he would, but the power exuding out of him told her otherwise. This tops off her fear and hatred to a wolf, wanting to just go anywhere but near this man. Lark finally calmed down but still breathing heavily, he looked down on the girl he just shouted at and he saw her hunched, trembling and eyes closed in fear. "Lark! What do you think you're doing to her?!" Maris shouted angrily when she saw Lark trapping a very scared Licht. Maris ran up the second floor when she heard an angry voice coming from there. Lark looked at his old maid seeing her furious then back to the girl he trapped, then he froze. The girl finally opened her teary eyes and he understood who she is, his wolf making it clear to him. "Mate! She's our mate!" his wolf happily barked, running around his mind like an excited puppy. While he stood there frozen as he realized that very important thing. He wanted to hit himself as he looked down at his mate trembling in fear because of him. He let his arm lay limply at his side, his wolf growling at him for scaring his mate. Seeing an opportunity Licht shuffled out of the man's presence towards Maris where she hid herself, still trembling violently. "Licht go to your room and calm yourself there, I'll call Clara to go with you." Maris instructed the girl that is clinging to her as if her life depended on it. She sighed as she threw a death glare on Lark who stood there motionless. She would deal with him later, bringing Licht to her room and calling Clara to help her was much important. "What happened?" Clara asked when she was called then seeing Licht scared. "Lark seems to be in a bad mood and he lashed it out on Licht." she said shaking her head in disapproval for what Lark did. After settling Licht on her bed accompanied by Clara who calmed her down, Maris made her way towards Lark. Still on his hallway Lark slid down the wall clutching his hair. "Why did you do that to her? You scared her and she would probably stay away from us!" his wolf shouted at his head and he let him rant on his stupidness. He cursed himself, just earlier he was wishing that he wanted to find his mate and now he shouted at her and made her scared of him. He banged his head on the concrete wall repeatedly, punishing his self. "Why does nothing ever go right?" He cried, then he heard footsteps coming his way. Maris walked back to Lark and she was rather surprised when she saw him on the floor, hitting his head hard on the wall. "What are you doing now Lark?" she asked, putting her hands on her hips. He looked at her with guilt and sadness clear in his eyes. "I did a very stupid thing." he said, Maris was again surprised. Her Alpha never admitted that he's wrong especially when it's a human he did something wrong about. "Tell me. There's something I'm not getting here, why are you hitting yourself? And why are you so guilty, that is not you unless Licht is your. .." she stopped her sentence when it finally dawned on her what's happening. She hit her forehead with her palm as she shook her head. "You're stupid, an i***t and an imbecile." She said as she gave out a long sigh, entirely forgetting that she would beat him to death for what he just did. "I told you since long ago your temper would give you a lot of troubles, now what are you planning to do?" she looked at him intently. "I don't know." he said unclear and defeated and although it's not really right at that moment, Maris laughed at her Alpha. "Oh good God. For once you finally admitted that you can't do something." She said after laughing, giving him a smile of a much wiser old woman. "You should apologize to her but now I must say she's pretty stubborn so good luck, I'll try to help as much as I can." She said patting her alpha's back reassuringly. Learning what to do and gaining confidence, he stood up and strode purposely towards Licht's quarters to apologize. Maris followed behind him smiling, although she would really beat him after this, she was happy. He found his mate and it's Licht! She laughed silently as she awaits how her alpha here is going to apologize to a human. "Everything's turning fun." she thought with mirth.
