Chapter 7

Olive’s POV I stumbled backward, my ears deceiving me. I faced him, and there was no trace of humor on his face. He was serious. ‘Marry me!’ He repeated as if I was deaf a second ago. ‘I certainly will not.’ I replied, furious that he would come up with something like that. What did he take me for? A w***e who would grovel at any mention of being with him? ‘I don’t know anything about you and until 5 seconds ago, you were bent on making my life a living hell.’ I scoffed. ‘You are still the same person I spilled water on a month ago. You think you are so high and mighty that at the snap of your fingers, the world falls at your feet., well guess what, I am not the world.’ I noticed him visibly flinch as I yelled my heart out at him. ‘I have work to do, excuse me, Sir.’ I added politely after yelling. I would be surprised if I still have my job after this encounter. As soon as my hand made contact with the doorknob, I heard his angry voice resounded around the room. ‘If you step a foot out of this office, consider your life over.’ My shoulders dropped and I turned around slowly, trying to make sense of what he said. I watched his nostrils flare in anger and his whole face looked heated up. He was pacing around his desk, clenching and unclenching his fists like he was trying to avoid hitting something, or in this case, me. ‘How dare you.’ He stalked over to where I stood by the door and I sank into the door frame, wishing I could be as far away as possible from him. ‘How dare you say such things? What gave you the audacity?’ I was becoming teary-eyed as he yelled in my face. ‘You forget your place. You are just a useless employee that was fired and kicked out by her own dear parents for f*****g up everything you are chanced to get.’ I choked in a sob as he walked away from me again. ‘Walk out that door, and kiss your chances of ever getting employed anywhere goodbye.’ He said with so much confidence as he sat down on his desk with arms crossed, looking directly at me. ‘sss…what?’ I literally felt like my heart was split in two. ‘Did I stutter? You walk out that door, and you would be jobless for the rest of your life.’ I walked towards him, not understanding the situation any longer. ‘No. you can’t do that. You can’t do that to me. You don’t have the power to decide if I get employed elsewhere or not.’ I found my voice and challenged him in disbelief. There is no way he could possibly make that happen. ‘But I do.’ He stood up again, and like my first time in his office, he circled me like he was watching his prey. But unlike the first time I was in here, I felt intimidated, scared even. It feels like my life is crumbling down before my eyes and there is nothing I can do to save it. ‘I have enough power and influence to send a message to every viable business, backlisting you and making sure no one even considers looking at your application.’ ‘You won’t do that.’ I said panicking. He won’t do that right?’ I asked Dave who just sighed in defeat, meaning Nicholas is capable and cruel enough to do something like that. ‘You monster. You are worse than I thought.’ I moved to him and hit his chest continuously while he just stared down at me in spite, a glint of amusement in his eyes. ‘Oh darling!’ he caught my two hands before I could manage to hit him again and turned to Dave. ‘Get out.’ I watched as Dave hurried out the door with his head low in fear, wishing I could switch places with him. That would be awkward, but I would be out of Nicholas’ reach. Before I could pull my hand from his grasp, he turned around swiftly and pushed me into a wall, pinning my hands above my head. He leaned in so closely to me, that I was afraid that if I moved ever so slightly, our lips would touch. ‘You don’t even know the half of it.’ He whispered lowly in my ear and my breath hitched in my throat. ‘If you accept this proposal, you will get a million dollars to spend as you please, an apartment and a car at your disposal.’ He stated proudly. ‘But if you don’t.’ He paused to look me in the eyes for a moment before moving close to my ear. ‘I will ruin you, down to your family and even your future. I will make sure your family loses everything dear to them, and make sure society looks at them in pity each time they are out in public.’ The feeling of his hot breath fanning my neck made it hard for me to concentrate on his venomous words. Ignoring the tight feeling in my throat, I managed to speak out. ‘Why are you doing this to me?’ My voice broke at the end, revealing how I was truly feeling. ‘Because I always keep my promise.’ He smirked wickedly. I knew what he meant. He promised to make me regret crossing his path and he is winning. He is getting what he wants. I have never had a say in what happens in my life, but this takes things to a whole new level. I am meant to marry a stranger, someone who has vowed to make my life a living hell. What happens now to my dreams of finding true love and having kids to love and care for? Where do I put those dreams? I don’t have a choice but to accept. I know he isn’t making empty threats, and he has the power to do every single thing he just said. Not having much of a choice, I gave my answer. ‘Yes, I accept your proposal.’ He grinned evilly and let go of my arms. At that mome nt, I knew something deep in my heart, I just sold myself to the devil.
