The police were still there when Marian and Harley arrived. Though it took until they reached the floor where Donald's apartment had been before they realized that the police were where they were headed. “Something happened to him?" Marian asked one of the officers. He started to frown and order her away, but then he seemed to change his mind as he looked in her eyes. His frown evaporated, his face slackened, and his eyes glazed over for a moment as he fell under her sway. “Yes ma'am," the cop said, as he remembered how to speak. “Murdered."
