4 Manny and Janie June 1910 Manny and Janie were deeply in love with each other. Their ages, eighteen and seventeen respectively, enhanced their sense of fun in each other, made it possible for them to be both childishly playful and tease each other pleasantly and sexually constantly. Janie would not permit Manny to touch those places she would hold dear for him until their marriage. But she loved kissing him, and when he moaned he wanted her badly she would say, “You can wait. It's not much longer now. If I can wait you can wait my love.” Then they would go back to teasing or kissing or simply walking together. In a real way the two of them were very lucky to be growing up, to be in love, in the times in which they lived. There were no more restless and warring natives left in Arizon
