Manny, The Man in Charge
Mid-November 1910
The four talked before going into El Centro about Manny going without a g*n on him on the way to Calipatria. He was not armed when they went to El Centro, and he surprised all of them a lot when he announced to the sheriff his purpose for being in California was to capture Martin, bring him back to Yuma and put him on trial for the murder of Janie and their unborn child. He also surprised them with the vehemence of his dislike for deputy King. It was uncharacteristic of him to direct so much anger at one person.
When they rode out of El Centro near 5:30 in the morning Manny wore his pistol. Though they had talked about the issue of his being armed previously there was such a bond of trust between all of them after his talk with the sheriff
