chapter 6: Party

“Enjoying yourself there?” He said, moving over and sitting on the edge of the bed. I returned his smile as a response. Then I remembered who it was I was smiling at and lost it, sat up moving as far back as I could back pressed to the wall. My movements clearly hurt him, but I kept reminding myself he put me in a dungeon, chained me to the wall, left me in the dark and had planned to hurt me?and if my mind began to slip back I gripped onto the still raw marks that were left on my wrists and ankles. I turned my watch back to being for my protection, “Beth-” James began, “Elizabeth!” I told him, this made his expression of hurt deepen. “Elizabeth, I am no longer your biggest threat. I advise that you don’t push me too far away,” He stood and walked into the other room and out of sight. I brought my knees to my chest, buried my head into them and cried. I hated that a part of me wanted to feel safe with him, wanted to be near him and trust him. Though I fought desperately against it, still that part remained. “You need to get ready,” James said, startling me, “For?” I looked up to see James standing at the end of the bed holding what looked to be a red dress. He himself wore a black suit, white shirt and black tie. “A party, you’re required to attend by my side,” He nodded to a door across the room “Bathrooms through there, have a shower, put on the dress, and whatever else you need to do we leave in an hour,” He seemed sad, I nodded climbed of the bed grabbed the dress from him and head into the bathroom. Just like the rest of the apartment, everything in here was expensive and extravagant. Marble counters, beautiful wooden floor and cupboards. I followed James' instructions, including the dress. It was gorgeous and -ofcourse- expensive, with a low back and slit on one side. It fit me perfectly. There was a knock at the door, it opened slightly and James stuck his hand through holding a pair of matching high heels. I took them from him, placed them on the floor and put them on. I opened the door the rest of the way and stumbled when I tried to walk. James caught me easily and helped me to steady. “Careful,” He said, still holding onto me. I shook him off and walked past him and back to the bed. I sat down and adjusted the straps on the heels. James sat next to me, “Elizabeth, tonight, want to or not don’t leave my side,” He grabbed my hand, “These people you will meet are like me, not you,” He stood still holding my hand, I followed and stood. “What?” I asked, he had regained that emotion, I’d seen it before I realised but couldn’t place were, “You look beautiful,” His words took me by surprise.Had he really said that?Still holding my hand James led me out of the apartment and back into the hallway. We followed the hall down and made several turns, until we came to a huge room. The doors were open wide, the room was filled with people whose heads all turned towards us the moment we arrived. Everyone of them had blood red eyes just as James did, but there was something different about the way they looked at me. I wanted to turn and run back. James held me tight, walking further into the room. Eyes followed us, glancing at James then fixing on me.
