“Let me speak to her,” Leiya said, shuffling as the phone was handed over. “Elizabeth you will get your a*s back here before I drag you back by your hair!” Knowing Leiya she wasn’t joking. I could no longer hold back the tears that now freely ran down my face. Shuffling came out of the phone speaker before Jame spoke,
“Liz, please come back,” He sounded broken, any trace of anger gone. “Please,” He begged one last time before my phone's battery died and the call was cut off. I threw my phone at the wall and curled into a ball, my body shook as I cried. It stayed there crying for hours, I cried over the lack of James’ presence, the fact I’d killed a girl and the loss of the life I’d had worked so hard for and had almost been mine. Just as I was starting to feel the slightest bit better, my world shifted and changed as I entered a vision.
I was now standing in James’ apartment. James was sitting on the bed crying, my clothes surrounded him, thrown across the bed. He held one of my favourite shirts to his face, inhaling my scent every few seconds. He was rocking back and forth, constantly whispering something, over and over. I took a step towards him to hear what he was saying, -since my new found vamp ability didn’t seem to work in visions-
“I’m so sorry I couldn’t protect you from this Liz, please come back to me.” He continued to repeat those words, only pausing to take another breath of my scent. The sight broke me, I’d run away not thinking of how it was affecting James. Maria walked into the room, causing James to let out an animalistic warning growl. I went to take another step forward, but a falling sensation spread through me as the vision ended.
Out of habit I found a pencil and paper, and drew the heart breaking scene I had witnessed. I folded the page carefully and placed it in my bag, grabbed the portable charger from my phone and headed back into the bedroom. I quickly plugged in my phone, suddenly realising how badly I needed to pee. I tossed my charging phone onto the bed and raced to the bathroom. Afterwards while I was washing my hands, I checked myself in the mirror. I looked terrible; there were dark circles under my eyes, my cheeks looked hollow and my skin overly pale. Somehow I felt worse than I looked. I took a deep shaky breath and left the small bathroom. I checked the date and time on my phone, and was surprised to see that two days had passed since I’d left. I sighed, I knew I had to go back. My body and soul were screaming to be with James. I grabbed my things, closed my eyes and focused on James. I didn’t know where he was, but I focused on teleporting to him. When I opened my eyes, I was met with the same James that was in my vision.
“Maria, just leave,” He begged, his eyes were shut so he couldn’t see it was me. I took a step forward, and he let out a warning growl, still not opening his eyes. I dropped my things and closed the space between us at inhuman speed. I pulled the shirt from his hands and wrapped his arms around me, all before he could open his eyes. The moment I touched him the pain in my soul and body left.
“I’m sorry,” I sobbed, turning into him. Nothing else mattered anymore, only James. He let out a strangled cry of relief and pulled me flush against him. “I’m sorry,” I said again. He didn’t respond, as he buried his nose in my hair, taking in deep breaths.
“I love you,” He finally said.
“I love you too,” I was surprised that I meant it, I’d only known James for such a short amount of time, but nonetheless I loved him.
