Chapter2- I'm getting married

1554 Words
[Jersey] "What... what did you just say?" "I'm getting married," Ryder repeated. I blinked back, trying to hold back a chuckle as I let my eyes drag over his face. He can't be f*****g serious right? Of course, I know that what we have going on means nothing, but he can't just be getting married! "You're joking," I blurted out before I could stop the words. He stared at me, his brows creasing together. I didn't miss how his eyes darkened as it swept over my body before landing back on my face. "I'm very sure you never knew me as a comedian or did you?" He asked and I bit down on my lips. Hard. So f*****g hard enough to draw blood. "What do you mean by you're getting married, and why are you just blurting it out like it's a very normal thing to say? Sending me money and asking me to act like we don't know each other from now on? Are you f*****g being serious right now?" My voice pitched up, my heart pounding hard against my chest. His hand paused on the watch he was trying to tighten on his wrist. He tilted his neck, staring back at me. "Do you remember what I told you the very first day you came up to me?" Ryder asked, making heat flush down my skin. I opened my mouth to speak but quickly shut it back, knowing truly that I had seduced him when I followed him secretly to a club just because I couldn't stop touching myself with the thoughts of him ever since the day he walked into the boutique where I worked. "Good, I guess you did, but if you didn't, then I'm going to remind you one more time," his tone was sharp, his jaw clenching hard. "I told you that whatever we have going on will strictly end on my bed, no strings attached. So I don't see a reason why you're acting like I broke your heart!" "So you've been f*****g me and f*****g someone else?" I whispered, my voice barely audible. Ryder stared at me, and without another word, he clasped his wristwatch, reached for his laptop, and slipped it into his briefcase. I felt every part of my body clench in pain as I watched the man I'd grown used to in the space of two months, walking around the room like we had suddenly become strangers. I knew we had nothing serious going on between us. But was there no other way he could end things between us than treating me like I was some slut? 'But that's what you are. You followed him to the club, seduced him, and made him f**k you," my inner mind taunted, and my jaw clenched hard. So hard that I feared my teeth would shatter. I blinked back as he tilted his neck back in my direction, his brows creasing together. "Have a nice life. Jersey," Ryder said, his eyes trailing all over my body. I could see his Adam's apple bobbing. For a moment, I wanted him to maybe say that this was him trying to pull my legs, but he averted his eyes from me and, without another word, he walked through the door, pulled it open, walked out, and banged it shut. That was exactly when it dawned on me that everything that spilled out of his mouth was nothing but the truth. I swallowed hard, trying to hold back the tears that threatened to fall from my eyes. I wasn't feeling bad because I felt something for him, but right now I wish I could turn back the hands of time. I wish I had not walked up to a man who is very much older than me and seduced him all because I couldn't get him off my head. Maybe if I didn't, then he wouldn't have had the guts to call me over to his hotel, f****d me for over three hours, and give me mind-blowing orgasms. Only to pull back and wire me money, just to discard me. What exactly was that? A goodbye hardcore f**k with money attached to it like I was some slut? "Gosh! Jersey," I growled, my hand fisting tightly on the sheets as I took a slow deep breath, trying to calm the turmoil brewing inside me. What exactly was he thinking, that gave him the audacity to tell me to act like I don't know him whenever we meet in public? What exactly was he thinking, that I'd go running after him? "You can go f**k yourself for all I care," I snapped, my eyes shifting to the closed door. I hissed out loud as my phone beeped. I dragged it over, swiping over the screen. Only to see that it was a message from my mother. "Jersey, when are you getting back from work, I have something important to discuss with you." I rolled my eyes as I read the message. Work indeed. She would think I'm in a place where I said I worked, attending to customers, not knowing I'd been receiving some huge d**k, and lying to her that I go to work right after college. "I'll be home soon," I typed back and tossed my phone aside, falling right back on the bed. Can't f*****g believe this. ~~~~~~~~~~ I stood right in front of my house. I took a deep breath, trying to tame the way my jaw was clenching so hard. I wouldn't want my mother asking what was wrong with me. I had to spend another two hours in that stupid hotel room just to get my s**t together, but it felt like I was wasting my time because the more I sat there, the more I was burning with anger. I took another deep breath as I tried to pull the door handle, only for it to creak open from the inside. "Jersey?" Vanessa, my mother called, her eyes dragging over my body. "You're back?" She asked, her eyes still not leaving mine. "I am Mom, you're blocking the way," my voice came out harsher than I intended, making me curse inwardly. "What's wrong baby? Are you okay?" She took a step back from the door. My hand tightened on my backpack as I walked right into my house. "I'm good Mom," I mumbled. "You don't look like you're okay. Did something happen in school or your workplace?" She asked and I rolled my eyes. "I was fired," I blurted out, walking over to the dining table. I pulled the chair and slumped down on it. "Oh my God, are you serious? Why? I thought you were doing just fine in the boutique. What happened?" She walked closer to me immediately, taking my hand in hers. "Nothing. Guess they just felt like it. Maybe they have a better replacement in mind" The word tasted so bitter on my tongue as I said softly. My mother squeezed my hand, holding up my chin to stare up at her. "It's fine. I have always told you that you don't have to work. I just want you to focus on your college baby. I work, and I make enough to take care of us," she said softly. I nodded, not even having any ounce of strength to deliberate over this. "Let me get you something," she mumbled and headed over to the kitchen. I raised my head, staring at her as she walked back to the dining room with a cup of ice cream. "Your favorite brand," she mumbled. My eyes shifted to the ice cream and I couldn't help how my lips curled into a smile. "Thanks, Mom," I dragged it closer, uncapping the lid. I immediately scooped a large quantity and stuffed it into my mouth. "Easy," my mother warned. I stared at her and chuckled. I took another and then another before dropping it and turning to face her. "You said you had something to discuss with me?" I asked, and I didn't miss how her breath hitched immediately. She blinked, averting her eyes from me. "Mom?" I called, and she stared back at me, wiping invisible dust from the dining table. "I don't think this is a good time to talk about it," she said and I felt my heart skip. "What's wrong Mom? Did...did something happen?" I asked, my brows knitting together. She bit down on her lip and took a deep breath. "Promise not to freak out?" She said and I nodded immediately. "I won't," I mumbled. She bit down on her lips, her eyes boring into mine. "I'm pregnant," my mother blurted. I stared at her, my eyes dragging over her face. "What?" I screamed as what she said sank in. She immediately palmed her face. "What did you just say?" I asked again, maybe I heard wrong. "You don't even have a man, how are you pregnant?" She stared up at me this time, her lips pressing together. "I've been seeing someone for some months now. I wanted us to take things slowly, but I found out I was pregnant a few weeks back, and as it stands, we will be getting married in a few weeks." My eyes instantly went wide as I stared right into my mother's eyes.
