Once she returned form their outing, she knew she was going to have to see him again.
This time, she wanted to dictate on what terms. Yes, they had had a more than pleasant evening together but she had also noticed that things went according to what he had planned. She didn't want to be one of his women. She knew his reputation for having very casual and non-committed relationships with even the most beautiful of women and she didn't want that for herself. She would not be numbered among them.
She she set out to ensure that he knew how she felt. As she sat down on her worn-out couch, she relieved the entire evening again.
The rather chivalrous way he had stormed her apartment and demanded she go, even though she has just yelled at him some minutes earlier. How he has been super attentive to her the entire night. Almost making her feel like she was the only one who mattered there.
The way his icy, grey eyes had pierced hers; looking deeply into them when she spoke and never wavering even when she had to look away. It was breathtaking to be in his presence.
She understood why those women fell for him. Even with her tight resolve, she found herself almost wavering.
It would be so easy to just melt away into his embrace and lose yourself.
Perhaps there was what he wanted.
Leslie was looking for her brother when she stumbled upon the note in his office. She rarely entered when he wasn't around but as never restricted from it.
Simon was very organised and she, the butter-fingers. So she tried as best as she could not to scatter or disorganised his space.
He had gone out probably. But unlike him, he hadn't told anyone.
As she mindlessly perused his desk and cabinets, she noticed a small piece of paper stuck to the corner of his desk. It was inconsequential but it caught her eye and she read it.
It was scribbling.
Something that Simon had done since childhood. It helped him gather his thoughts and kept him focused. One could always tell what was paramount on his mind by reading his scribbles.
He usually had them in a notepad but this time, he has used a sticky note.
"She is not your soulmate. She is just a woman.
You don't believe in romance. Don't fall for her
Who was he referring to? Leslie was intrigued and rather excited. It sounded like her brother had met someone who was making him teether on the verge of involving his feelings.. that would be a first. She grinned like a Cheshire cat, put the note back on its place and crept out of
his study to go look for their mother.
Simon was impressed with Mariah. Yes he has turned on his charm for her and made her the centre of attention but she kept her wits about her throughout.
Unlike most women he saw and dined, she didn't let her focus shift from her goals and though he saw her blush when he complimented her, she didn't let herself go.
That was impressive. But this was just their first outing together. He has a series of planned events by which end she would be putty in his arms. He was sure of it. She was a woman afterall and she had hot blood running through her veins.
There was no chance she would still be stoic when he was done.
Leslie had been waiting for her brother to return and now, seeing him pull up into the driveway, she rushed out in excitement. She knew he has been out to see someone. She wondered if that someone was responsible for the demeanour he had lately.
He went to work with added gusto and excitement. He was lost in thought a lot and always had a wry smile in his face at whatever he was thinking.
As he entered the front door, his little sister rushed towards him to give him a hug as if he had been gone for a year. She loved doing that and he loved it too. It made him feel special. Also she has a look on her face and he knew it would be a 21-questions night. He sighed. He wasn't annoyed at her, he couldn be. She just wanted a sister so badly like his mother wanted grandkids. This was her way of expressing it.
"Well, how did it go?" She eagerly began.
"How did what go?" He feigned ignorance.
"I know you went on a date." , she replied defiantly. "Don't pretend you didn't."
"Ha ha ha, how did you deduce that you little sly one?"
He spun her around in an embrace only a loving brother could.
"You may be young but you are smart." He said with a smile.
"So are you going to tell me anything about it?" She pressed on.
"What exactly do you want to know?"
"Well, for starters, who is she? What's her name? Where did you two meet? How does she look? When are you going to see her again? How....?" , she barely paused for breath.
"Wow wow wow, wait up interrogator" He held up his palm on mock defense.
"Slow down with the questions. I just got back. Can I at least get some rest first?"
"Oh come on, we are so eager to know. Is she 'The One'?"
Simon laughed heartily.
"You know I don't believe in such things. I'm not a romantic like you. By the way, who is we? Have you been talking with mum?"
Leslie blushed.
"Well, she was also curious. I guess I told her you just started seeing someone.
Simon sighed. He looked at her for a few seconds and turned to leave for his room.
As he got to the door, he paused and turned to his sister.
"Her name is Mariah."
