Devon, 26 years old, was born in Pesha. His mother died after giving birth to him. He is unaware of his other relatives, mother never told him.
His parents eloped the moment they knew their families would not approve of the union of a tailor and a middle class man. Not long before he was born, his father left. He was left under the care of one of his mother's workmate, Trisha. She was always there for his mother until her death. Despite having no blood relations, she treated Devon as her own.
She work hard enough to get food for them both, if they were lucky, they get to eat more than once for a day. She never enrolled the boy to school and taught him herself.
Having no memories of his mother, Trisha took her place. Devon was in debt to this woman. Had she not been barren, he knew he must have been cast away. So when he got a request from a client, he thought of her. He was going to repay her for her kindness, love, and undying support to him.
The raven haired man managed to get back his determination as he remembers his 'mother'. He waited for the sun to rise before he spied over his target. It was a woman.
Now why would an old man ask him to kill a woman?
A lot of theories ran through his mind but he shrugged it off as he got to his destination.
He looked at the house from top to bottom. He can tell it belonged someone rich. He can tell by the newly paint walls and fancy designs. The door made a rickety sound and Devon immediately hid under the bushes.
His can feel his heart beat fast. He can do it. He exhaled and held the knife in his pocket while his other grabbed onto a pebble. It was going to be simple; he would throw the pebble pass the person. Once it grabbed her attention, it would turn its back, then he would go for the kill.
His mind buzzed and his beating hammered against his chest as the target stepped outside. He began sweating, he was having second thoughts, he cursed himself.
He squinted his eyes as he wiped his forehead. When he opened them, his breathing stopped.
He felt his heart beating again for the wrong reason.
Devon was now staring at the person he had to kill. It was a woman, he knew that. He wished the client told him she was...........shameless.
Sandra walked out of the house, wearing the night dress her aunt bought her. She felt the breeze pass through her thin dress making her body shiver. She would not be wary of peeping toms, their house was hidden from the people's eyes. No one in their right mind would assume there is a house behind these massive trees. She was thankful her family was rich enough to buy a lot away from the other civilians. Then again, guilty for not thanking them in person.
If she had known that it would mean moving out of the house to study in one of the top performing schools of the land, she might have refused. Living here with her uncle wasn't so bad and not so good either. Sandra knew their was a conflict between her uncle and her parents, something about inheritance and stuff.
She shook the thought and enjoyed her private moment.
Devon had tried hard not to think of anything else, but the woman made no move to help him. She danced around like no one was watching, if only she knew. As the turned around, Devon found an opening. She had her back faced to him and stayed that way. He didn't know why but he was taking the chance. He slowly crept closer to the woman, hiding from every tree he reaches.
He stepped and quickly hid behind the tree. He looked to see that the target hadn't notice it. Good. His mind began to rattle as he decided what to do now. He did not continue his original plan to throw a pebble, he got nervous.
He let out a sigh and looked back at the house. She wasn't there.
He started panicking, he went out of his hiding spot and looked everywhere.
Shit. That's the only word in his mind right now.
He knew it was a bad idea to do it in day light. He continued sneaking to the area as he cursed himself for his idiocy.
"Excuse me?" Devon froze. He turned around and saw the woman carrying a basket of berries. Was he so nervous he didn't hear her go out?
"Ah I-I'm lost. Is this the way to Linus town?" The man asked as he pointed at the mass of trees. Linus town was just beside Pesha. He knew that but he had to act ignorant to remove any suspicions. The woman seemed gullible enough to believe him as she gave a smile.
"Linus is this way, you had it in reverse." She said before she chuckled. Devon swore he felt his heart skip. He never had any contact with the opposite s*x aside from his mother figure. He was probably acting this way because it is his first time. He then remembered her lack of clothing so he looked away.
"Hm, this is a first." The man can tell she was walking closer.
"Most men would have no shame to look. But you," She gave out a raspy voice on the last part. What was she doing? Is she doing what he think she is?
Devon took a a few steps back until he hit the tree. She went closer to the man as she gave him a smile. A lot of things went through his mind, but Devon chose to follow his carnal instincts and stayed there.
Her hands landed in his chest as she slowly lowered them. He stifled a groan and notice that her face as a few inches from his. When she leaned for a kiss, he closed his eyes.
The kiss never came. Devon had a knife against his neck.
"Ok handsome, who sent you?"
