Chapter 4: Black Talons As the mysterious group edged closer, Henry revealed what he could about their powers. He explained that they were ancient, dating back to a millennium. Bella, trying to piece things together, asked, “Why were we given these powers? What purpose do we serve?” Henry looked unsure, his eyes narrowing. “I don’t know. There’s a lot I still can’t figure out. But I do know where we might get more answers—the Black Market. It’s a place where information flows freely if you know where to look.” Meanwhile, back at the pack’s territory, Mia, the alpha’s second-in-command, stood before Jacob with a cold smirk. Mia: “Bella’s gone. I saw no sign of her in the woods or her normal routes. Probably taken by that evil spirit that’s been haunting her.” Jacob: (eyes darkening) “That doesn’t change the fact that she’s still part of this pack. We don’t leave our own behind, even if cursed.” Mia, however, was secretly pleased. Bella’s absence meant she could now set her sights on Jacob, no longer having to worry about the outcast. Elsewhere, the elders convened in secret. Their voices were low but urgent as they discussed not only the escape of Jayden and the missing moon vestige but also the impending induction of Jacob as one of the elders—given his role as the alpha of his nation. Yet, the growing threat weighed on them more than anything. Monk Aoi: (sternly) “We can’t delay any longer. The seal is weakening, and if we don’t find the moon vestige soon, we’ll have no way to stop what’s coming.” General Khan: (annoyed) “ Don't you think we don't already know that we were on the backend as we didn't know where the moon vestige was now we don't know where the sun is either. Emperor Ji: “(authoritative)Enough of this bickering. Our main mission at hand is to find the sun and moon vestige, but then remember we need to call in Jacob. Even though he's young, he's shown great promise and amazing talent. Time isn't on our side anymore. General Khan and Monk Ao: Agreed Back in the Black Market, the trio—Jayden, Bella, and Henry—began searching for clues. Henry kept a calm demeanor, even though the place was teeming with dangerous individuals. Jayden, however, was more on edge, watching Bella’s every move. Suddenly, Bella got separated from the group, and Jayden’s frustration boiled over. “I knew she was reckless, but this is taking it too far!” Henry, ever the level-headed one, placed a hand on Jayden’s shoulder. “Calm down. We’ll find her.” After a moment of silence, Henry’s eyes sharpened as he picked up on Bella’s trail. They found her being led away by a mysterious hooded figure. Jayden’s instincts kicked in, and without a second thought, he rushed forward, ready to attack. Bella: (shouting) “Stop!” Jayden halted, surprised, and glared at her. “What the hell are you doing? That person could’ve—” The hooded figure slowly removed their cloak, revealing a familiar face: Jane, Bella’s maid. Jane: “Hi, I'm Jane, Miss Bella's maid. I was following Bella in the woods, but when her power surged, I passed out. When I woke up, I knew I had to find her before someone else did. The Black Market was the only place I could think of to get answers.” Jayden's jaw tightened. "So that was the other scent I kept picking up." Jane nodded and then leaned in closer. "There’s more. Bella's parents... they've mercenaries to track her down. And not just any mercenaries. The Black Talons." Henry’s eyes widened in alarm. He quickly scanned the area and spotted four hooded figures circling them. “We need to leave. Now.” They began to move, but the Black Talons were already closing in. One of them lunged at Bella, but Henry intercepted, punching the mercenary into a nearby wall. “Go! I’ll hold them off!” he yelled at Jayden. Jayden grabbed Bella’s hand and started running, but soon, three more Black Talons blocked their path. With the crowded market providing little room for an all-out brawl, Jayden swiftly used nearby candle flames to create a distraction, driving the mercenaries away. But when he turned around, both Bella and Jane were gone. Frustration surged through him, but he knew lingering would only make things worse. He rushed back to check on Henry, who had already taken care of the remaining pursuers. Henry: (out of breath) “We need to get back to the hideout. We can regroup there.” Jayden: Yeah, I don't think these guys wanna hear that. With more of the cloaked warriors hone in, Jayden asks Henry to cover his eyes as he focuses an increased amount of heat around his body and expands it, creating a smokescreen, creating room for them to escape. When they returned to the hideout, they found Bella and Jane safe. The place had been cleaned, and food was laid out on the table. Jayden: (sternly) “What happened? Where did you two go?” Jane: “I made sure we escaped” Henry: “How if I may ask” Jane: (sighing) “I can transform myself and whatever I touch invisible and undetectable for a specific amount of time depending on my energy levels” Henry: “And the food,” he asked looking ready to devour. Bella: (smiling) “The receptionist at the Coffee shop helped us. She was kind enough to lend us a hand.” Henry scoffed. “She never did that for me, no matter how much I asked.” Jayden’s tension slowly began to ease, but deep inside, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something bigger was coming. Back at the Black Market, the leader of the Black Talons stood before his beaten men, fury burning in his eyes. His fiancée and second-in-command approached him, her steps calm and composed. Leader: “Can you track them down?” Fiancée: (confidently) “Yes.” Leader: (darkly) “Good. You have your target. Eliminate anyone who stands in your way.” Fiancée: (grinning) “You bet.” With that, she dashed out into the night, and the next stage of their deadly pursuit set in motion.
