Kay ------- My eyes shot open and I was instantly alert. I must have dozed off after Yana had brought the supplies and food. I wasn’t surprised after the day I’d had. My wound felt better, still achy, but no longer burning. The room was in total darkness, but the natural kind, night. I wasn’t sure what had woken me, but my heart was beating a mile a minute as if I was in danger.  The door handle creaked, sounding loud in the eerie quiet. The hair on the back of my neck stood up. I stiffened, then forced my body to relax and my breathing to even out. I needed to keep the element of surprise.
