Chapter 4: Invitation & Fall Out

1596 Words
Orion *** It's been almost a week. It's Friday, and Noah was absent today. And since he's the president of this class and I'm the secretary. I was tasked to give him the data for next week's event. I was having second thoughts about this because he was clearly showing me the 'Don't come near me or else' signal. I don't know what I did wrong to receive such treatment but I just ignored him since that is what he wants. I walked to the parking lot to meet my friends since we had plans after school. We're about to go to this popular bar in town and we were planning on staying in a hotel to party since it was the weekend. "You look down, you alright Ri?" Brett asked me the moment I got near them, and I just lifted my shoulders a little and looked over the papers that the professor gave me. "What's that?" Cadence asked. "Some documents that I need to hand to Noah." I briefly answered and she took some of it and searched through the papers as well. "Wait, Cadence, can you give him these? I mean, when you go home. You both live in the same house right?" I said to her and she smiled and looked at me like some brilliant idea popped into her mind or something. "I have a new plan! Let's go eat over at our house and stay the night there so Orion can meet my parents. We can watch movies there or drink champagne if you like." She squealed and my face scrunched at once after she finished talking. "Yeah, that's a great idea, then you can hand Noah these files yourself, Rio. And then maybe he'll open up to you... we can only hope that he will." Casper said, and Brett also agreed. The three of them looked at Freya who was quiet inside the car and she raised her hands up, gesturing that she was fine with it. 'Well this is interesting' - "We're here. Orion, you stick close to us. My parents are slightly intimidating but they're good people." Cadence assured me. We got out and walked for a good five minutes in the woods till we saw a huge mansion. I could hear people talking inside. Two? Or maybe three people? "Come." Cadence waved her hands at us, she opened the huge door but I slowed down and let the others go first. The decoration was very modern, completely opposite to the exterior design outside that displayed a medieval vibe. "Mom, dad, I brought my friends over! We're staying the night here." Cadence shouted, and light footsteps suddenly resonated in the tranquil place. An elegant lady and a handsome middle aged man walked from one of the doors and greeted all of us. "Why didn't you tell us in advance. Oh Brett, have you been training hard? Your dad told me that you're doing well in school. That's good." The man, which I assume was Cadence's father, praised Brett. And they continued greeting the others until there was only me left to be noticed by them. "Is this the new kid?" Her mother asked as she ogled me, and I could feel that she was releasing some kind of strange energy within her. "Honey." Her husband tried to call her but she didn't budge. She clearly exudes the aura of a powerful werewolf, but compared to me, she's still nothing. Though it doesn't mean I'm letting my guard down. "Hello ma'am, I'm Orion Sullivan. I'm Noah's schoolmate." I introduced myself and her eyes flickered as if sensing something odd about me. She took a quick whiff and then her eyes abruptly returned to normal. "I'm sorry dear. I'm Veronica, my husband here is Blake, you are free to call us by our first name." She spoke with a gentle tone and it made the atmosphere lighten a little. I looked over my shoulder to see how the others were doing, only to see them sweating excessively. "Are you guys okay? Why are you sweating when it's cold outside?" I asked them, however, they looked spaced out. So I just chatted with Cadence's parents as they guided me to the dining room. I think Cadence was just trying to scare me earlier. Her parents are not at all intimidating. Noah *** "Noah, where are you going?" Jessica complained. I didn't have any time to spare for her right now. Dad told me to go home quickly so that's what I was doing. "Sorry babe, there's an emergency at home. I have to go." I said to her as I kissed her forehead. She hugged me tightly but released me eventually. "I'll see you tomorrow." I waved her goodbye as I went inside my car and immediately started the car and drove fast. … I was parking the car in our garage when I noticed the scent in the air was different. A human? I opened the back door and went directly to the living room. I saw Cadence and Brett talking to each other and my eyes quickly went black. "What are you two doing here alone?" I interrupted them and they both turned to me almost at the same time. "Gosh Noah! You startled me." My sister irritatedly scolded me, but I just ignored her and focused my attention on Brett. "We're not doing anything shady. We were both just talking of how unnatural it was for Orion to have stood eye to eye with mom and dad." She said, and I was confused with what she meant by that. "What do you mean?" I asked her but she just looked at Brett who took over and answered in her stead. "Bro, you should have seen him. Your mother was releasing the most dominating pheromones when he saw Orion, but he acted like it was nothing. Me and the other guys were already shivering by how intense it was, but a mere human like him was not swayed even a bit." He told me in one full breath and I was surprised with what he said. It was known to all werewolves that a luna and alpha releases the most nature defying pheromones to make their subjects submit. If it can cause a low level werewolf to yield, one can already foresee what it will do to humans. So Orion's case is indeed strange. "Where is he?" I looked at them, but they just swung their head and stared at the dining room. I gave them a curt nod and I slowly strided to the direction of the room. I can hear disembodied voices and sounds of laughter as I slowly step in. Casper and Freya were sitting together, while it was mom that Orion was sitting beside with. "Noah! You're here, Orion has been waiting for you, he said that he has something to give you." Dad uttered, and I glanced at Orion who was already looking at me. Our eyes met and my eyes flickered when I saw his glowing orbs. It reminded me of the dream I had days ago. I don't know if it really was him but they share the same eyes as the boy in my dreams. "What is it?" I questioned, and Orion stood up and handed me a brown envelope. I read the papers casually and just sighed once I saw the contents that were written in it. It was about the upcoming event in our school. And all presidents in each cluster were assigned to do a specific job to help with the event. "I see, thanks." I thanked him and was about to leave when mom gave me a warning look. I didn't have any choice, so I sat next to Orion and lightly felt a tinge of electricity when our shoulders touched. He looked at me and I was honestly almost sent over the edge when I took a whiff of him. "He has no scent. Literally nothing!" Which is odd, no matter what entity you may be you always carry a scent with you. I'll ask dad later if there are any records of people with such traits. I sat there in complete silence as I listened to their conversation. One thing that I noticed also about Orion is the way he talks. Sometimes he was natural, like a modern guy. But he often uses some archaic language which is difficult to understand, like what he is doing right now. Their conversation was random, more about who and where Orion came from. However, mom slowly started asking him weird questions. "What is she trying to do?" "Orion, dear, do you believe in werewolves?" Mom asked her with a deep tone that shocked all of us. "Veronica---" Dad tried to stop her from what she was planning on doing. But she was too willful to back down. She awaited Orion's response and so did we. We all looked at Orion's face waiting to see if his face would c***k but he was pretty collected and calm. Mom was testing him. And I have a gut feeling that he knows it. He showed a toothy grin at mom and answered her with an enticing voice that shocked all of us. "How brave of you to ask. But yes ma'am, I do. And in fact… I'm certain that I'm talking to one right now." Mom's pupils instantly dilated and turned gold after hearing what he said. And this only means one thing. Her wolf was threatened by Orion.
