Elizabeth's POV. As soon as Sandra’s figure disappeared down the hallway, leaving behind a serious lingering sense of dread in her wake, I felt a wave of relief wash over me. I liked that she had left, but my relief was short-lived, replaced by a deep sense of unease that settled like a heavyweight in the pit of my stomach. Her threats were still in my memory. “Liz!” Before I could gather my thoughts, the door swung open, and Rose burst into the room, her expression a mix of confusion and concern. "Liz, what happened?" she demanded, rushing to my side as she took in my downcast demeanor. I bit my lip, struggling to find the words to convey the terror that still gripped me. "I-I can't," I whispered, my voice barely above a hoarse whisper. Rose shook me by the shoulders in frustration, her eyes pleading with me to open up. But try as I might, I couldn't bring myself to speak, the memory of Sandra's chilling threat still fresh in my mind. Finally, with a heavy sigh, Rose relented, her frustration giving way to a sense of resignation. "Okay, Liz," she said softly, her tone tinged with disappointment. "But whatever it is, just know that I'm here for you, no matter what." I nodded weakly, feeling a pang of guilt at keeping Rose in the dark. But the fear that gripped me was too powerful to overcome, leaving me paralyzed in its wake. As Rose turned away, a determined look in her eyes, I felt a surge of panic grip me. "No, Rose, please," I begged, my voice trembling with desperation. "Don't go after her. It's not worth it." Rose paused, her gaze lingering on me for a moment before she reluctantly nodded. "Okay, Liz," she said quietly, her voice tinged with sadness. "I won't go after her... for now. But if she ever threatens you again, we're going straight to Alpha Tyson. Understand?" I hesitated, feeling a knot form in the pit of my stomach at the thought of involving the alpha in our troubles. But in the end, I knew I had no other choice. Whatever Rose said, I had to obey, "Okay, Rose," I murmured, my voice barely audible. "I understand." With a million things running through my mind and a heavy heart, she made me promise and then sealed our promise with a hug. It was an agreement we always had, one that made our friendship last this long to stand by each other no matter what. I went back to my bed and Rose went to her. She picked up some books while I arranged my bags. They felt rumpled. I tried to distract myself with the clothes folding and cleaning my room, but I still had a sense of apprehension gnawing at the edges of my mind. It worried me until I went back to sleep. The next day, I went to my private lectures as usual, I sat through my classes, I learned everything the professor said, and then, when he was done and he left, I let my thoughts become consumed by the looming threat of Sandra's return. The clock ticked and as the minutes turned into hours, I watched as there was still no sign of her. It made me wonder if perhaps I had imagined the entire encounter. “Maybe a few more minutes,” I whispered to myself, encouraging myself to wait for her. I had mustered courage. I wanted to confront her. But just as I began to let my guard down, wanting to leave, Sandra appeared, blocking my path as I made my way out of the lecture hall. "Elizabeth," she greeted, her voice surprisingly gentle as she pulled me into a tight embrace. I stiffened at her touch, my mind reeling with confusion at her sudden change in demeanor. "W-what are you doing?" I stammered, my voice laced with uncertainty. Sandra held me at arm's length, her eyes searching mine with an intensity that made me squirm uncomfortably. "I just wanted to say thank you," she said softly, her voice tinged with a hint of sincerity. "For being such a good friend to me. You mean a lot to me, you know." I felt a pang of unease at her words, a sense of foreboding settling over me like a dark cloud. "Um, you're welcome?" I replied uncertainly, unsure of how to respond to Sandra's unexpected display of affection. But before I could say another word, the door to the lecture hall swung open, revealing Alpha Tyson standing in the doorway, his presence filling the room with an air of authority that made my heart skip a beat. Sandra's smile widened, her grip on my arm tightening as she turned to face him with a look of adoration that sent a chill down my spine. "Alpha," she greeted, her voice smooth as silk. "I was just telling Elizabeth here how much I appreciate her warm hand of friendship towards me. Isn't that right, Elizabeth?" I swallowed hard, my mouth dry as I struggled to find the words to respond. But before I could utter a sound, Alpha Tyson's gaze shifted to me, his eyes narrowing with suspicion as he took in the scene before him. As Sandra's grip tightened even further, a sense of dread washed over me. I wondered what she playing at and what she wanted. “I see you guys are having fun.” He said to the both of us. His eyes didn't waver, his feet were firm on the floor. “In that case, I think I have no cause for worry. I heard a voice on my way to the office. I'll leave you both to talk then.” Sandra nodded, reaching to kiss the side of my cheek and then turning to smile at the alpha. Tyson's gaze softened, and I could almost see him smiling, but he stopped midway and then hardened his expression again. “Goodbye then.” He waved us goodbye and then left. As soon as Tyson disappeared, Sandra pushed me off her and to the ground. “Get off me, you slug!” My forehead wrinkled. What just happened?
