Chapter 4

Elizabeth’s POV. My head was spinning as I staggered back on my feet, trying to make sense of the stunning woman standing before me. She was breathtaking, with long, flowing hair and piercing eyes that seemed to see right through me. And when she spoke, her voice was smooth and confident, sending shivers down my spine. "I'm Sandra," she said, her words dripping with authority. "I'm the Alpha's fiancée, the Lady of Alpha Tyson's pack." She repeated again. I blinked, my mind struggling to process the information. Sandra. The Alpha's fiancée. The Lady of the Pack. What the— It all seemed so surreal, so far removed from the quiet life I had thought I would have while coming here. I didn't think I would the Alpha had someone— especially someone this beautiful. For a moment, I simply stared at Sandra, unable to tear my eyes away from her. Her confidence was intoxicating, her presence overwhelming. And yet, beneath the surface, I sensed a hint of something else - a vulnerability, perhaps, or a longing that mirrored my own. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, I managed to find my voice. "I'm Elizabeth," I stammered, my words coming out in a rush. "I-I'm new here. I'm just trying to find my place." Sandra raised an eyebrow, her gaze piercing as she studied me. "And what, exactly, is your true intention, Elizabeth?" she asked, her voice cool and calculating. "Are you here to steal Alpha Tyson away from me?" The accusation hit me like a slap in the face, leaving me reeling with shock and disbelief. "N-no," I stammered, my voice barely above a whisper. "I would never... I mean, I'm just... I'm just trying to get some medicine.” But my words seemed to fall on deaf ears as Sandra's expression hardened, her eyes narrowing with suspicion. "You're lying," she accused, her voice sharp and cutting. "You're here to take what's mine, aren't you? Well, I won't let you. I won't let anyone come between me and Alpha Tyson." I opened my mouth to protest, to defend myself against Sandra's accusations, but the words caught in my throat, choked by the overwhelming sense of inferiority that threatened to consume me. I had never felt so small, so insignificant, in the presence of another person. In the matters of love, I meant. Getting no useful information from me, Sandra turned on her heel and stalked away, her heels clicking against the floor with a finality that left me breathless, she was indeed as beautiful as a goddess. I wished I could be that way, even if it was half of a day. Maybe then, Connor wouldn't have left me for my cousin. Maybe I wouldn't be so damn useless and dumb. Maybe. With a heavy heart, I turned and made my way back to my room, my mind blazed with so many doubtful thoughts, all compromising whether I had made a wise decision coming here in the first place. Sandra smelled like trouble. Elegant trouble that I didn't want any part of. I sank onto my bed, hands on my chin, still pondering what would happen next before my best friend Rose entered my room. As usual, she didn't need permission to glide past my defenses before she made her way to my sanctuary, not considering whether or not I wanted to be alone. “Why are you gloomy?” She bounced on my back as she sat on me, dipping her hands into a bag of chips, smoldering its remnant on my bed. “I'm not.” “Oh, come on. You can't lie to me!” Rose crushed the chips she grabbed in her hand before transferring them to her mouth, “I've known you since we were children, I know when you're gloomy. What's wrong?” I was quiet for a while then I smiled, faking it like I wasn't anxious after seeing another woman claim to be with Alpha Tyson. “It's nothing.” “Stop lying!” Rose finished her chips, discarded the bags, and then turned around to face me. “Tell me what happened.” I flipped over and laid on my back, Rose's eyes met with mine. “I met with another woman today.” “Another woman?” Rose's eyes widened as she tilted her head in disbelief. “A maid? His family? His enemy?” Even she could not fathom what I was about to say. “None of the above.” I sat up straight and then lowered my face. “Someone even closer to him.” “Who?” She also sat up straight, worry etched on her forehead. “Tell me what happened!” I could see anxiety and worry mixed and displayed on her face. “A lover,” I whispered. Her eyes widened even more and her jaw dropped, “What do you mean by a lover?” “You heard what I said. A lover. A fiance, I saw her today, she was coming out of his office when I got there to collect pills from him.” Rose gasped. “I told you that man was no good. We shouldn't have come here.” Rose was already panicking from the looks of things. “Calm down. You're overreacting.” I tried to calm her down, “He's not bad. He hasn't done anything wrong yet. Stop acting this way.” Rose shook her head. “There is nothing more you can tell me. He already has a woman, we need to leave.” She stood to her feet immediately, grabbing her bags and mine. “We should leave by nightfall.” I stood up to my feet too. “Rose, you need to calm down.” As she packed her bags, I unpacked them. “You need to stop this.” “Listen to me, you'll regret this if you do not. These people are not our people, we need to leave now.” She still packed her bags while I did the opposite. We argued and fought over the issue for a while until a knock interrupted us. We froze, our eyes pinned on the door. Maybe we overheard it. “Who is it?” I called, unsure I would get an answer, but I did. “It's me, Tyson. Open up.” The alpha's husky voice yelled into the keyhole. I shivered and gasped for breath again. Why was Tyson here now?
