Chapter 4 The cane-train’s haunting whistle filtered through the fog of sleep. Zoe opened her eyes as a knocking sounded at the door. She opened her eyes, checked the clock and groaned. Seven o’clock. This was her day off. She was supposed to have Mondays and Tuesdays free in return for working weekends. ‘Move over Captain, you big lug.’ The border collie was taking up half the bed.
