19Le Blanc pulled Madeleine closer. Strange, he thought, how after all the other women, all the rage and hatred, he still warmed inside when he held her. He jerked his head towards the man who stood frozen in the doorway, his hand hovering uncertainly at his side. “Hands up, Stewart. Above your head. Keep them where I can see them.” He dragged Madeleine with him across to the entry. “Undo his gun belt,” he growled. Madeleine flinched away from him, her eyes dark green with fear. Le Blanc pushed the gun harder into her temple. “Undo the belt.” Her eyes flicked to Caleb’s face, but his eyes were fixed on the ceiling.
