Chapter 5 The Enigmatic Genius Designer

1084 Words
As soon as these words were spoken, the crowd was astonished. Vivian clenched her fists in jealousy, her long nails digging into her palms. "What? How could Mr. Kane be interested in her?" "Impossible! What kind of status does the Kane family have? How could they be interested in an impostor?" "Exactly, this impostor must have used some trick. No wonder she's dressed like that; she must be seducing Mr. Kane!" Listening to the crowd's discussions, Vivian's face contorted, but to attract William Kane, she struggled to maintain a facade of a smile. "Don't talk nonsense, how could Evelyn do such a thing for money?" She stepped forward and looked at William. "Mr. Kane, after all, Evelyn is a daughter of the Johnson family; how could we trouble you with such expenses?" Vivian gazed longingly at William, but he didn't even spare her a glance. The smile on Vivian's face became somewhat stiff. "The auction is about to begin, please enter the venue, guests." The voice of the host inside dispelled this farce. The crowd dispersed and left the scene. Hearing the host's voice, Vivian immediately feigned a troubled expression. "Evelyn, I didn't know you were coming today, and I already got the family's invitation. If I had known, I would have asked dad to prepare another one. Why don't you wait at the door, and I'll find a way to get you in later." Although Vivian put on a show of being troubled, the mockery in her eyes was almost overflowing. Evelyn saw through everything and didn't rise to the bait. "No need to worry, Vivian. I can go in with Mr. Kane. Right, Mr. Kane?" With that, Evelyn linked her arm with William's and looked at him. William gave a resigned smile and nodded silently. Seeing this, Evelyn hid the invitation in her bag even deeper. No one knew that Evelyn was invited to the auction as a designer, and today, her work would be the centerpiece of the auction. But Evelyn hadn't missed the look in Vivian's eyes when she looked at William. Clearly, her good sister was smitten again, so she had to stir some jealousy in Vivian first. Sure enough, Evelyn saw a trace of jealousy in Vivian's eyes. Evelyn and William entered the venue together, and shortly after, William's assistant hurried over, whispered something, and William bid farewell to Evelyn. "Oh, Miss Johnson, why are you alone here? Could it be that Mr. Kane has already abandoned you?" A few people who had been watching the commotion at the door immediately gathered around when they saw William leave. "I told you, how could Mr. Kane be interested in a pauper like you!" "I advise you to leave quickly, or else if you see something you can't afford, you'll be laughed at!" "Hahaha..." Not far away, Vivian watched the scene quietly, holding Ethan's arm, with a smile on her lips. 'So what if Evelyn could get in? When the auction starts, Vivian will make sure everyone knows who the real eldest daughter of the Johnson family is!' Soon, the host began to showcase the auction items one by one. Vivian was arranged to sit next to Evelyn, and she affectionately held Ethan's arm. The two occasionally whispered to each other, appearing deeply in love. Vivian secretly observed the people around her, but found that Evelyn was not affected at all, just quietly watching the items on stage, which made Vivian a bit displeased. Soon, the last item was brought on stage. Vivian saw Evelyn's eyes light up and immediately turned to look at the stage. It was a ruby necklace, exquisitely designed. Even though she didn't understand jewelry, she knew the main stone was very precious, shining brilliantly under the lights. "This is the work that designer Y is auctioning! It's indeed beautiful and elegant, just as expected from Y." "That's the Y known as the genius designer! I came here just to get this necklace." "Although Y doesn't have many works, each one is a masterpiece! It's a pity she's so mysterious that ordinary people can't even commission her." "Such a rare necklace, I think most people here are after it. Luckily, I've prepared well this time, and I must win it." The surrounding discussions reached Vivian's ears. Looking at the necklace and listening to the discussions, Vivian felt an itch of desire. She could almost imagine wearing the necklace and becoming the center of attention. Thinking of this, Vivian immediately relaxed her posture, leaned into Ethan's arms, and said in a soft voice, "Darling, that ruby necklace is so beautiful, I like it!" Ethan was so enchanted by her demeanor that he felt a bit dizzy, and before he could think it through, he had already said, "If you like it, I'll bid on it and give it to you later." As soon as he said it, he started to regain his clarity. Considering the necklace's prestigious origin, it was surely expensive, but seeing Vivian's blushing face and gentle form in his arms, his worries vanished. 'It's just a necklace; how pricey could it be?' While he was pondering, the auctioneer announced the price. "This ruby necklace is a rare treasure, with a starting bid of fifty million." The moment those words were spoken, the room erupted in gasps. "This starting price is the highest at this auction, isn't it?" "Oh my God, whoever wins this necklace today must have the top strength in Norwin!" Listening to the crowd's discussions, Vivian felt even more that this necklace should belong to her. However, Ethan's expression was not as confident as before. Vivian noticed it and pretended to be disappointed. "Dear, this necklace is so expensive, maybe we shouldn't get it. Although I really like it, and seeing it makes me think of our relationship—pure and precious—but the price is really quite high." Ethan couldn't stand seeing Vivian so upset and distressed, so he gently touched her face and said tenderly, "As long as you like it, what's a little money?" With that, he raised his hand and called out, "Fifty million." The crowd immediately looked at him with astonishment and admiration. "No surprise there, the Lewis family's strength is impressive." "I envy Vivian; Mr. Lewis is spending a fortune on her. Evelyn must be so envious." Such flattery made the two of them feel a bit giddy. "Eighty million!" Suddenly, a female voice rang out. Everyone turned to look, and it was... Evelyn Johnson!
