chapter 2

“Run!” The word sank in as a command. “Run!!” It seemed louder the second time, much clearer. It was dark, the whole world around me was covered in darkness, my eyelids too heavy to lift themselves. I tried to move but seemed glued to the ground. The scene of moist soil and grass braced my nose one more time, the sense growing in itself. I licked my dry cracked lips, they were sore and I could taste the blood from them. My head pounded so hard, making it difficult for me to ponder on what happened, if at all I was alive, where was i? where was everyone. My eyes flew open as my heart sent itself flying at the thought. “Adam!” I let the scream escape my mouth even before I realized it. My voice echoed through the woods. I was no longer in the school parking lot, I was surrounded by trees, tons of them, high and very bushy, I could barely see the sky from where I was laying. i quickly sat up before regretting my decision of doing so. I brought the heel of my palm to the temple of my forehead as if it would take away the pounding. I scanned the space around. No adam, no person, just me and a bunch of trees to look forward to. Slowly I picked myself up to my feet, barely making it. I was out of strength, my body read weak and my throat longed for nothing but water. I looked down at my ankle, it felt better, I could still feel the pain but it was nothing less than a tickle. I was still in my clothes that I wore the day I passed out. Was it still today? I wondered, where was i? and adam, my parents, kira…did she survive? My channel of questions where endless. Footsteps, I could hear them approaching but they were not loud enough. I listening in a little harder, hoping even my heart beat couldn’t make I sound for me to know what direction they came from. A laughter and a stream of chatter flew in and my legs, having a mind of their own began for that direction. My vision was still a haze , my throat was crying for a drop of water but I still keep my feet on the run. Maybe it would be Kira, or Adam or anybody, I just wanted to see humans once again, to believe I was alive. My feet stopped at an open ground, it was like I had come to the end of the woods and entered a whole new land of black rock hard ground. The four humans before me stopped, eyes wide on me stared. Two of them where girls my age, the other two where boys, they looked a little older, maybe a year or two. Who is she? A short girl with dark ebony hair tied into on long pony tail asked . “Hi, am sk…” wait, she didn’t speck, she didn’t say a word but I heard her ask who I was, I was pretty certain I heard her voice come through. She one of them? one of the boys mind spoke, the tallest of them. One of them? one of who? They began walking towards me, It was only then that I saw it. They all wore black uniforms, with big black matching boots and knee caps placed right in their position. “I don’t mean any harm, I just want to go home?” I whispered. She’s an O. the other guy said in his head, as if confirming it. The girl with ebony hair flashed a ball of fire from her palms and I immediately ducked. However I did that was left to think about later. I knew they could produce fire, but I have never seen it that big. I swang my body back into the woods as I broke into the fastest race of my life, my feet carrying me at a pace they have never. I presumed the girl was an alpha, I had no time to figure out what the rest where, I wasn’t willing to find out either. I jumped the first log that was spread out across the between two trees and almost lost my footing but I did not stop for nothing. I ran, I believed it was as fast as I could go but I still pushed myself to do more. I passed my little camp from before and strayed away into the thick forest, the sun slowly disappearing from sight. I could still hear them on my trail. They were after an O, a harmless somebody like me. Why was I even running, this didn’t make any sense, not one. I stopped immediately, if they wanted me they will find me, maybe they could give me answers to why I could suddenly link their minds. I started to walk back from my rejected direction when a hand suddenly someone pulled me from behind, covering my mouth as they dragged me into what seemed to be a cave. They caught up with me, this was definitely the end of me, they were going to kill me without me getting any answers out of them. I tried to struggle free but the grip was too strong considering how dehydrated and hungry I was, there was not much in me to fight back. “shhhh” the person whispered in my ear, it was a girl and if she was talking out loud it only meant she knew what I was. Their footsteps drew near and finally stopped nearby. I could see the black boots slowly walking around, lingering by, I imagined their faces as they searched for me. If whoever was holding hostage was hiding me from them, what did it mean, did she just save me? She must be somewhere here. One of the girls said. Lets spread out, she hasn’t gone far. My shanghaier waited for my predators to disappear before letting my arms and mouth go free. “they are trackers, you should count yourself lucky you lasted this long.” Trackers, This long? How long has it been? I wanted to ask but I didn’t. I turned to her to get a view of my ‘saviour’. “Emily?"
