Izzy was so heartbroken and sad. She was egoistic too, and she couldn’t digest the fact that she was rejected by a poor guy. She was expecting him to accept her offer instantly, but what happened shook her hard.
She didn’t go to campus for a few days and then, finally, on the day of her exam, she went to university. She had thrown a tantrum towards Helen and that’s why she didn’t talk to her.
She was late for the exam but as she entered the class she saw Eden sitting in the front row. She couldn’t think of what to do. She ignored him and went back to her seat. She was late and so was taking her exam. Everyone left to take the exam except Eden.
He was still writing or perhaps was waiting for Isabella to finish the paper. As soon as she handed over the paper, the examiner left. She was packing her stuff and was about to leave when Eden called her.
“Izzy wait. Can you spare me some minutes??”
“Yeah.?? Can you be quick? I have to go.”
He took a step forward and got near her. Her heart started stammering and shaking again. She tried to keep herself calm and composed. She didn’t want him to know her feelings.
“I am sorry for that day. I was a jerk to you.”
“It’s fin no problem. I undertstand.”
“No, it’s not fine. I was so rude, and you were asking so nicely. But I was worried about something else but forgot that I should make it up to you. I wanted to apologize, but I didn’t have your number, so here I am.”
“It’s alright Eden. I get that. I was so preoccupied with my plans I didn’t consider your answer. I shouldn’t have asked you for a coffee. I know you don’t consider me your friend.”
“No, it’s not that, we are friends and, of course, you had every right to ask for that, but I didn’t know about that, actually.”
He was thinking and she started looking at him. He was hesitant.
“What? Is there a problem??”
“Don’t get mad, but I didn’t want you to feel embarrassed because of me. I mean you are a very nice person, but look at our status. There is nothing common between us. I am worthless in front of you. I am not saying I don’t want to go out with you. I do. But I will take you to the restaurant that suits your grace. I mean we are friends, and we have to split the bills. I don’t want you to pay for me. I mean I can’t let that happen. My self-respect won’t let me.”
She was so stunned and also surprised by that. So many guys would try to get a taste of her luxurious life and would like to enjoy her wealth people, but Eden was different. He wanted to be respected and that just made her like him even better. She respected him even more after that.
“I know I have said too much already, but if you excuse me, I have brought something for you.”
“What is it??”
He was sitting on his bench and taking something out of the drawer of his side table. He was holding coffee in two mugs.
“You can’t come to the café. I can’t go to your restaurant. Then we can enjoy our coffee right here. Would that be okay??’’
She started smiling and it moved her heart. She forgot how much she abused him and hated him for the past few days had but everything just vanished. She sat there and was holding her coffee while he was taking his sip.
“I never thought this could be the reason. I mean I like it.”
Then they started talking and she asked
“Can I ask you something??”
“Yeah, what is it?”
“Why were you worried that day?”
“I lost my job that day and I had to pay my rent.”
“You are doing a job? How do you manage that?”
“Yeah, when you have bills to pay, you just manage everything.”
“How did you pay your bill then?”
“I sold my bike.”
“What? But” She couldn’t say anything. Life had been too easy for her and she realized someone was struggling for a crumb while she was enjoying a lavish life.
“If you don’t mind me asking, Can I help you? I mean loan? You can give it back to me.”
She knew he would never accept help so she used the word loan instead.
“I know you are trying to help, but I can’t accept it. I am looking for a job and will get it no matter what. Don’t worry.”
She wanted to insist, but her cell phone started ringing.
It was Helen.
“If your romantic date has ended, now come out. I am waiting in the car. The guards are waiting. I am holding them back for now.” She hung up the call.
“I have to go now. I will see you at the next exam. But can I bring something that day??”
“Something like in??”
“” I mean something to eat? Do you like something??”
“There is no need for that. come on.”
“You can’t say no. Now tell me, otherwise I will make something terrible, and you have to eat it.”
“Okay fine. I like white sauce pasta.”
She also liked it a lot and smiled hearing that.
“bye.”
She left the room almost laughing and overwhelmed with happiness. She was getting herself on the brink of first love. She liked him, but her feelings were getting stronger day by day. She never expected her feelings would outburst when she went out to see him with his girlfriend. But before that, this nice “just friends” roleplay was happening between them.
Everything was happening so smoothly that Isabella didn’t realize how much she was addicted to Eden. She was making her favorite dishes, and coincidentally he liked them too. They used to eat that, and he brings coffee for her every day. She started to know him better and in return she couldn’t tell him much about her life. She had nothing to tell. She was living in a shell made by her family. She wasn’t allowed to meet even most of her family members. She studied alone and the only friend she had was Helen. There wasn’t anything happening in her life.
She wanted to see Eden’s life. He used to tell her stories about his small one-room shared flat. She never realized that she was just his friend. She thought he liked her too and that’s why one day, when they were having a nice talk, she tried to kiss him, but he stopped her. She felt embarrassed.
“I am sorry Izzy. I don’t intend to hurt your feelings, but I think you have taken me wrong. I see you as a friend.”
She felt so embarrassed and insulted, but she tried to control her emotions. Again that angry kickass attitude showed up. Her ego stirred up.
“Oh really, what about all these meetings? You were with me for the past few weeks, and we are going to bid farewell in the upcoming days, and you are saying that? Now? Really.”
“Izzy, I am sorry, but did I ever show or say anything to you in a romantic context? I consider you my friend. You were looking for a boyfriend and I misunderstood it with a friend. I am sorry, but I can’t be your boyfriend.”
“Why? What’s wrong with me? Am I not beautiful?”
“No, gosh please don’t think like that. you are beautiful. It’s just that I am already committed to someone. I am dating someone else.”
“What? Dating? You are lying.”
“No, I promise. I am not lying.”
“Who is she?”
“She was a friend from my college. She finished her studies for the first time and is at my previous university. She will be shifted to this city by next month. You will meet her.”
“You never told me about her. How come she didn’t come here?”
“She is from a middle-class family. Her parents couldn’t afford her university here. So they didn’t let her.”
“Why didn’t you tell me anything about that earlier?”
“You never asked, I never thought this could be a topic of debate between us.”
