We rented a small fishing boat. After several days on the high seas, the compass indicated that we were outside of all the traditional navigation routes that had been embarked upon during the last four centuries. Large vessels had always followed the same route back across the Atlantic Ocean, taking advantage of the strength of the winds and currents which allowed them to travel faster. Outside of these routes, few boats would venture into the unknown.
