Chapter 5

The revelation that Alpha Harrison was the father of my unborn child had sent shockwaves through the pack. The square was filled with a heavy, bewildering silence as everyone tried to process the sudden turn of events. My stepmother, who had been so eager to expose my shame just moments earlier, now looked on in disbelief. She stammered, struggling to find her words. "Alpha Harrison, this...this can't be." But Alpha Harrison remained resolute, his gaze unwavering. "It is the truth. Leah and I share this responsibility, and I will not shy away from it." My father, torn between his role as the pack leader and his concern for me, looked from Alpha Harrison to me and back again. He seemed to be grappling with the enormity of the situation. As the silence lingered, Alpha Harrison took charge of the moment. "I will not allow Leah to face this alone," he declared, his voice firm. "Prepare my bags and my ride. I am leaving now, and I will take Leah with me." The pack members stirred, murmuring in confusion and disbelief. My stepsisters, Ana and Isabella, exchanged shocked glances, their faces pale. It was clear that no one had expected this turn of events, least of all me. I stood frozen in place, my heart pounding in my chest. I hadn't wanted this. I hadn't wanted to be taken away by Alpha Harrison, the man who had used and discarded me. But it seemed that my fate had been sealed, and there was no escape. My Father's voice quivered as she spoke. "But Alpha Harrison, what about a proper wedding? Leah deserves that much." Alpha Harrison's gaze flickered with something that resembled sympathy, but his resolve remained unshaken. "Very well. We will wed here and now." The words hung in the air like a heavy cloud, and the pack members exchanged uneasy glances. A wedding ceremony, one that was supposed to be the happiest day of a girl's life, was being arranged in a matter of minutes, as if it were a mere formality. I felt a lump forming in my throat, a mixture of fear and resignation. I had always dreamed of a loving mate, of a wedding filled with joy and celebration. But now, it seemed that those dreams were nothing more than distant fantasies. The preparations for the wedding began in haste. A makeshift altar was set up in the square, and the pack members, still in a state of shock, gathered to witness the ceremony. My stepsisters helped me into a simple white dress, devoid of the intricate lace and embroidery that I had once imagined adorning my wedding gown. As I stood before the makeshift altar, my heart heavy with conflicting emotions, Alpha Harrison approached me. His gaze was no longer filled with the cold indifference I had grown accustomed to but instead held a strange mixture of determination and something that almost resembled regret. The ceremony was short and somber, a stark contrast to the joyous weddings I had witnessed in the pack. There were no vows of love, no exchange of heartfelt promises. It was a transaction, a formality, and it left a bitter taste in my mouth. As Alpha Harrison and I were declared husband and wife, the pack members offered their reluctant congratulations. It was clear that no one was truly happy with the outcome, but they had witnessed the Alpha's declaration and could do nothing to oppose it. I glanced back at my family, my stepmother, my father, and my stepsisters. They had been so quick to cast me aside, to revel in my humiliation, and now they watched in silence as I was whisked away by Alpha Harrison. My heart ached with the knowledge that I was leaving behind everything I had known, everything that was familiar to me. But as I walked away with Alpha Harrison, I couldn't help but wonder if this unexpected turn of events might offer me a chance at a different future. In the chariot, Alpha Harrison and I embarked on this unexpected journey, and he let go of my hand with a dismissive sigh. His face wore a cruel and indifferent expression, and it was clear that he had no sympathy for my predicament. "I can't believe I'm stuck with you." Harrison said spitefully Equally frustrated ,I fired back "Believe me, I didn't ask for this either." A heavy silence hung in the air, our eyes locking in a brief but intense battle of wills. Despite the tension, defiance welled up within me. "You know, I didn't exactly dream of marrying someone who used me and left me like trash." I replied "And I didn't dream of having a mate who gets herself into trouble at every turn."Harrison replied I frowned shooting back "Trouble? You mean like getting pregnant because of your actions?" "This isn't how I wanted things to be, Leah. But we have to make the best of our situation, Obviously you have no choice" Harrison frowned "And what's your idea of the best, huh?" I scoffed "First, you need to understand that there are rules in this pack, and you'll abide by them." I replied raising an eyebrow"Rules? Like what?" Alpha Harrison started listing them off with a cruel twist "First, you'll show respect to your Alpha at all times. Second, you won't leave the palace without my permission. Third, you won't embarrass me or this pack in any way. Fourth, you'll fulfill your duties as my mate. Fifth, you won't speak out of turn. Sixth, you'll remain loyal to me and our pack. And seventh, you'll remember that our child's future is at stake here." "So, basically, you're saying I'm a prisoner, not a wife." "Call it what you want, Leah, but these are the rules you'll follow." Harrison scorned "Fine, but don't expect me to be a quiet, obedient little wife." I sighed resigning to his words Alpha Harrison replied with an annoying smirk "I wouldn't expect anything less but be careful, I'm not nice " The grand palace loomed before us as Harrison and I arrived. Its sheer magnificence left me in awe, with towering spires reaching for the sky and intricate carvings adorning its walls. The sprawling gardens resembled a paradise of colors and scents. It was a palace fit for kings and queens, and I couldn't help but be captivated by its beauty. As we stepped out of the chariot, my eyes swept over the grandeur of the palace. I whispered in admiration, "It's...it's incredible." Harrison, however, seemed determined to dampen any sense of wonder I might have felt. He shot me a mocking glance and sneered, "Don't get too carried away. Remember, you're just a guest here." His words cut through the enchantment like a cold wind, and I swallowed my disappointment. Following Harrison, I entered the palace's grand hall. Inside, a hushed murmur swept through the gathering of maids and guards. They cast surprised and curious glances in my direction, clearly taken aback by my presence. Harrison's voice rang out through the hall as he announced, "Listen up, everyone. This is Leah, my pregnant wife." The shock that rippled through the assembly was palpable. Whispers and gasps filled the air as they struggled to process the unexpected revelation. I sensed their judgment and pity, and it stung. Among the maids, a whispered conversation began. Maid 1: "Did you hear that? The Alpha's pregnant wife?" Maid 2: "I never expected this. She doesn't look like the usual Alpha's mate." Embarrassment washed over me, but I maintained my composure. Despite Harrison's cruel words and demeanor, I had been overwhelmed by the love and support of the maids during our journey to the palace. Their kindness had been a glimmer of hope in my otherwise uncertain future. Approaching me, Maid 3 offered a warm smile. "Don't mind the Alpha, dear. We're here for you." I couldn't help but smile back at her, grateful for the small oasis of kindness in this harsh environment. As the maids whispered words of encouragement and the guards exchanged uncertain glances, I realized that I might not be entirely alone in this new and unfamiliar world. Harrison, growing impatient, interrupted the moment. "Enough of this. Leah, follow me." His sharp tone snapped me back to the present, and I reluctantly tore myself away from the supportive maids. Whispering to myself, I resolved, "I won't let his cruelty break me. I'll find a way to survive in this palace, no matter what.
