12. The Fallen Daughter (long)

Felicity POV:

After Kilian left, I immediately locked the door. I did not expect this to happen. What did he mean when he said he could smell my arousal? He has never turned me on. I mean he wasn’t the worst looking guy I met but at the end of the day he was still a man.

“Urghhhh” I grunted placing my head on the door and turning around. Zara was staring at me like I was some sort of an i***t, tilting her head.After I braided my hair and packed my training bag I walked downstairs with Zara. I was still in a mood with her.

“Fury wait up” Lily called from down the hall catching up to me.

“I can’t wait for training today. I mean I know yesterday was good, but a whole day of beating those men, ummmm dream come true” she sounded so excited and so innocent.

“I just need some breakfast first; you can help me set the ground for today if you want”. I met Lily when I was five, Mother brought her into our pack when she was four. She was abandoned on the streets of New York and she suffered with severe fever. She has always done what was asked of her, I think she felt guilty and wanted to repay the Daughters for saving her.

“Breakfast yes please. Can you smell cherries? I can smell them coming from the kitchen” she walked faster leaving me behind, what did she mean by that? I felt a low growl in my chest.

Estrid was that you or me?  No response, surely this was not jealousy.

I walked into the kitchen and was greeted by the smell of cherries.

 “Morning Felicity, would you like some muffins?” Mrs Powell greeted me with a large smile.

“Muffin? Yes please”.

 I saw Kilian from the corner of my eye, staring at me, he was waiting for something, “Alpha has requested that I bake cherry muffins this morning, odd request if you ask me, I mean I heard about blueberry muffins but never cherry but oh well whatever Alpha wants, Alpha gets” Mrs Powell murmured under her breath.

That bastard, he made that rule on purpose. I looked over my shoulder and looked at him, he was grinning like there was no tomorrow, I was not going to give him the satisfaction of defeat, but I also needed to eat after last night.

 “Actually Mrs Powell, I’m running a bit late and the Muffins are still hot, do you mind if I just grab a banana?” I asked.

 “Oh yes my dear, I heard they are a great source of potassium or something along those lines”.

I grabbed a banana and sat in line with his eyesight. I knew he was looking, and I was going to take my time with this phallic banana, his plan didn’t work out, although now I was craving cherries. When I left the Estate, I walked over to the training around and started setting an obstacle course, one I have done a thousand times in my life and so have the Daughters.

“This is easy for us” Lily grunted as she lifted one of the jump boxes.

“We won’t be the ones running it, we will be part of it” Lily looked puzzled.

“Training today will be a bit different” I announced to the packs in front of me as they got to the training ground. “Your task is to get through the obstacle course in the quickest time possible”. I saw my sisters smirking. “Daughters, you will not be running it, you will be part of it, at each station you will attack the person who is running it, if you knock them to the floor they are out. If they run past you, knock you out, or Mother Forbid it defeat you, they will move onto the next obstacle. We will not finish until at least one of you gets to the finish line”.

As the training began my sisters did me proud, there was 15 of us and no one got to my obstacle yet, although I did stand at the 15th obstacle. We did change a few times to give the first three girls a little break. When Seth ran next, I felt a little excited, he was Kilian’s Beta and one of the strongest fighters in the Marble pack. He dodged Sienna, ran past Claudia and finally he got to Poppy. His obstacle was to dodge the arrows she was firing at him and fight her.

 When he dodged the arrows; I watched with fire in my stomach. She punched him repeatedly, but he did not even move, he stood there. She ran at him and kicked him in the shoulder, making him fall. He grabbed her leg from the floor and chucked her to the side and before she got up, he was gone. When he got to Lucy he was in for a surprise. She was the obstacle, no one has seen Lucy fight yet, she was helping the young pups hold their guard yesterday. She was a loose cannon, and we knew it. He threw a punch, and she grabbed his arm, wrapped her own around his neck and did not let go. His face went from red to purple, he started to sweat before he passed out.

“Am I going to get a chance to fight today?!” I shouted across the field.

“Don’t worry sweetie I’m coming” Kilian laughed from the other side, breaking the first rule. He got ready to run but instead he walked, he did not want to tire himself out. He figured it out, he knew that all the other runners tired themselves out before they got to the Daughter and were not prepared for the advancements made. If he walked the whole thing, he would save the energy and still be the only one with the “fastest time”, the only time.

After he dodged Sienna’s punches and gave her a taste of her own medicine, I felt knots in my stomach. He was getting closer to me, was Estrid going to let me win? Was she going to sub come to Bane? Kilian was getting closer and I couldn’t wait to kick his ass.

“GEORGIA SWAP!” I shouted to her as she was the next one, the 11th obstacle, I ran over and picked up the sword she left. Kilian’s obstacle were monkey bars, quite easy, but not when you have to do them with a 50kg vest top, tiring your arms.

“Hello sweetie” I smirked when he jumped down. I caught him by surprise, he wasn’t expecting me to be here, and was determined to get to me but not just yet. “Pick it up” I said pointing to the sword on the floor. “You broke the first rule!”

“So, did you…. Just now” oh Mother how I hated him. I made the first advancement, our swords clashing.

“Don’t you think we need to come up with some kind of punishments for breaking the rules?” he was trying to get to me.

“Or just don’t break them, rules are there for a reason” I said clutching my sword.

“But where’s the fun in that? Rules are made to be broken”. Our fight was getting more intense. I was swinging my sword left and right, each time mine would be met with his. I had enough. I threw the sword by his feet. Kilian let his guard down thinking he won. I lunged at his ribs making him fall. As I straddled him, I saw the deep black pools again, I had him.

“Are you breaking the second rule?”. I picked up the sword and slashed it into the ground next to his head. He knew he lost, if I wanted to, I would have pierced his skull with it.

“Sorry Kilian it seems you lost” I said getting up from his torso.

“And you also broke the second rule” he smirked walking away. “You’re forgetting that I can smell your arousal and right now the scent is over-powering” he winked as he walked off. He was the most powerful Alpha and yet he lost to me.

For the rest of the day, we have trained defence and offence. The new pups were getting stronger and quicker, but this would not be enough. Adam and Lucas were sitting on a path of green grass by the rowers, I could tell they were tired, but they fought so hard, even Lily and Poppy were impressed. As I looked around, I saw my sisters grunting, fighting, throwing punches, and kicking around, I was so proud of them, but at the same time I was dreading what was about to come, the battle between the new world and the old.

Kilian POV:

In the late afternoon I was beaten but I didn’t want to let it show, my pack looked up to me, I was the leader of the most powerful pack and I needed to uphold that status.

“I am so sore, those girls really know how to kick some ass, it’s like they are addicted to it, they get a high from seeing males bleed” Seth pointed out touching his back.

“When you find your mate, you do know that your strength will come into its own right, a real Beta” I stopped as soon as Seth looked worried.

“About that Alpha I have been meaning to talk to you. I think this is best Beta I will be, I have given up on finding my mate. It’s a lost cause” I have never seen Seth look so ... depleted, so hopeless, I could hear Oscar whimpering.

“Care to explain?” I asked.

“Oscar has stopped talking to me, he is offended by the fact that I have slept with so many women. I don’t think my future soul mate will be happy about the fact that I’m basically like the Hugh Heffner of the Marble pack. What if she was saving herself for me and this is what she gets?” pointing at his body. I do feel for him, his parents were childhood best friends and when they turned 18, they have been inseparable. 

As we made our way up the Estate stairs, I heard by stomach growling. All that fighting really took it out of me. As I walked past the kitchen, I saw her, Felicity was talking to some of the Daughters in the kitchen with Mrs Powell and I saw pieces of paper being given to her. She caught my eye and just smiled at me. Why would she smile? Either she was up to something, or she was genuinely smiled at me. I wasn’t going to question her about it, I needed a shower.

At dinner Mrs Powell served an amazing roast dinner. Everyone was here except my little sister Katy. She was determined as a werewolf, she wanted to get herself an education and she has been at collage for the last three months, she even celebrated her 18th birthday by herself. In all honesty I did not want her to come back to this pack during this time, if there is going to be a war, I didn’t want her to be a part of it.  I looked over to Felicity as she seemed excited, she was laughing and chatting to Poppy and Georgia. She really showed her skills today and I thanked the Moon Goddess that she paired me up with someone so determined and so perfect.

When dessert was served, I couldn’t help but laugh, we have been served brownies. I looked over to Felicity and to my surprise she was already looking at me and our eyes met. She took a bite of the brownie but just smirked at me. I did say the rules worked both ways, if she can’t eat cherries, it’s only fair that I don’t eat chocolate.  

Suddenly Georgia’s phone rang and her face dropped, the Daughters excused themselves and scurried off. I looked over to Seth who was oblivious to anything around now and was enjoying his dessert.

“Something is happening, be ready for anything” I whispered to him.

“Huh?”

I heard the roar of their cars and the Daughters driving off, Felicity did not budge. She finished her dessert and excuses herself, never breaking eye contact. On her way out of the dining room she picked up a cardboard box that was by the kitchen entrance and left.

Go after her you asshole, she’s leaving us! Bane sounded hurt, he didn’t want to lose his mate and I didn’t want to lose mine. I caught her just as she was about to drive off.

“What the f**k are you doing? Where the f**k are you going?” I shouted, I knew she hated me, and the smell of wolves would give her migraines, but I would never think she would leave me without saying a word.

“What are talking about?” she asked as she buckled her seat belt. Without hesitation I got into her car.

“Why are you leaving? You swore an oath to the High Elder that you would stay here for three weeks training the troops. You stayed for a couple of days and you’re leaving?”. Felicity just laughed at me.

“Kilian you might be an Alpha” she stopped to finally look at me. “But you are stupid, I did swear an Oath, but I didn’t say anything about staying here every night” she sounded proud, she was sure of herself and what she was doing but I still had no idea.

“So, the help is only temporary?!” I couldn’t help myself. Her face dropped and the smile disappeared, she took great pleasure in calling me and i***t but I guess the “temporary help” hurt her.

“You want to see some temporary help? That’s fine, you can come with me tonight” as she pulled off, I felt the power of the car. We drove for 30 minutes in total silence. Whenever I tried to say something, she would stay quiet listening to her music. I was surprised to hear the Killers; I could imagine Felicity training to their songs. When we pulled up, she turned to face me, finally breaking the silence. I had the sudden urge to kiss her, to press my lips against hers, to taste her again.

“Do you want to see some REAL temporary help? Get out of the car!” she said with her soft silent voice.

“Are you going to leave me on the outskirts of New Orleans?” I asked sarcastically, but deep down I was worried.

“No, you’re going to help me tonight”. As we walked to the boot of her car, I smelled something familiar, Mrs Powell’s cooking.

She grabbed several bags that were in the cardboard box and I realised what she was doing. She was a Daughter, she was still serving the Mother, without being told to do it. After learning how the Daughters help the society it all clicked. They take in the abandoned girls and care for them. She is pure through and through, she brought food from the estate to feed the homeless.

“I know my role in this world, and it isn’t just training pups to learn how to kill. I’m not just an assassin who murders and tortures my victims, at the end of the day I am a human and if I have the resources to help others I will” she stopped to look at me and gather her thoughts. “Let’s see if the high and mighty Alpha can come down to the level of “commoners” and help them” she remarked giving me a bag with a few sandwiches and an apple.

As we walked around the backstreets, I realised how many people needed our help. When she spoke to several women in the streets, I saw the love in her eyes, I didn’t know whether it was the streetlight that helped but her eyes glistened.

“Can you smell that?” I asked as she looked at me, frightened. Felicity walked past me; she was almost dazed.

“FURY HELP!” we heard someone scream around the corner. She ran dropping the food and pulling out her dagger, I followed quickly. I could feel Bane coming out, it was the smell of blood. Felicity looked at me with worry stopping at a crossroad. She didn’t know where the scream came from.

“This way” I grabbed her hand and ran towards some rubbish dumpsters. Then we saw it, one of the Daughters was bleeding from her neck and wrists. I recognised the girl from training today, she was a petite small girl with mousy blonde hair and green eyes. Only now they were shut.

“Please, no no, please Brooke get up, no this can’t be happening, who did this to you? Please BROOKE!” Felicity was pleading and shouting at Brooke. Shaking her, her hands covered in blood.  She looked at me with black eyes, Estrid was coming out, she was furious, Fury was showing her true side.

“Felicity I think it’s too late; I promise you we will find whoever has done this and we will get revenge” the black eyes disappearing, and tears started to form in the corners of her eyes. I have never experienced this feeling; she was my mate and she was hurting. I couldn’t stand the sight of her heart breaking, I hugged her, and she stayed in my arms, she needed me here and Estrid needed Bane.

“You don’t need to look far” a rough raspy voice appeared behind us. As I turned around, I saw a group of men all dressed in black suits. They smelled like sewage mixed with blood. Their lips were red with Brooke’s blood. There was something strange about those men, they had white eyes and didn’t even blink.

“YOU FUCKERS!” Felicity pushed me to the side and took another knife from her boot. She ran at them with full strength and I followed. They circled us, I would expect Vampires to bite and snarl, but these men were different, as I knocked one to the ground he sounded as though he was made of bricks, his bones shattering at the impact, his white eyes disappeared, and he screamed at the top of his lungs. Felicity was fighting two, she pierced one’s heart and he still fought her, his eyes not changing colour.

We have to break their spines. Let me!

As I took my top and shorts off to shift, Bane took over and shifted quicker than I ever felt. As my eyes changed, the next thing I saw were paws in front of me. Bane was jumping on these men and slashing their backs, ripping their spines out, he was vicious, and I knew why. He was protecting his mate, and this gave him power. After a few minutes it was all over. I shifted back and put my shorts and top back on. Felicity was next to Brooke stroking her blonde hair.

“What were they?” she didn’t take her eyes of Brooke. “They were not vampires; they drank her blood but her wrists are cut not bitten. They had no fangs! Who has white eyes in this world? Even piercing their hearts didn’t do anything… Please tell me!”. Her voice was getting quieter and quieter.

“I have a feeling it’s something to do with Dracula…” I stopped halfway through my sentence “Felicity we have to go now! There’s more of them coming, I can smell them!” she wasn’t moving as she held onto Brooke tighter.

“Brooke’s gone please we have to go” I saw Felicity’s tears dropping down onto Brooke’s head. “You will avenge her death, but right now you can’t do anything against 30 of them” I dragged her up and pulled her around the building. We stopped there to see what would unfold in front of us.  

At least 30 more men came from the corner of the building, all dressed in black all with white eyes. One came up and kneeled against Brooke’s limp body, I could not hear what he said but Brooke’s eyes opened, turning white. Her wrists healed up and she got off the ground like nothing happened.

I could hear Felicity crying next to me. With one swift move I pushed her against the wall and put my hands on either side of her head. “Listen to me, listen!” trying to stay quiet. “I promise you right now that I will kill every single one of them, I will rip their spines out and no more of your sisters will die.” She looked down, she didn’t want me to see her crying and weak, but she was anything but. I grabbed her chin with my hand and stared into her eyes. “I worship the ground you walk on and I will do anything to protect you. You are mine to protect! After tonight we know how to defeat them! No harm will come to you” I was starting to pant, I needed her now, I needed to hold her, to feel her touch and then... I did.
