CHAPTER 3

I practised what I was going to say. What I was going to ask but when I heard my mother humming away in the kitchen to herself I chickened out. Three times I had now walked up the hallway and back until i finally had enough courage to enter the kitchen. ‘Mum?’ ‘Yes dear?’ she says not looking up. ‘When you found out dad was your mate did you ever question it. Did you question the mate bond?’ The spoon stops stirring and mother looks up at me, her concerned eyes flicking across my face as she tries to work out whether or not i’m serious. ‘I did,’ she confesses. My eyes must have almost bulged out of their sockets because mother laughed at my facial expression. ‘There are only a few lucky ones who meet their mates beforehand or are so happy with the results that they never question the bond but everyone has a moment of doubt. Your father was quite the looker back then and well I was quite plain. I expected to be with a nerd or someone dark and mysterious and your father was one of the most popular guys in the pack. But he won me over.’ Her smile is huge as she reminisces about the past. ‘How?’ I ask. ‘It’s hard to explain sweetheart but no matter who your mate is they will know exactly what to do to win you over.’ ‘You seem so sure.’ ‘Only because the mate bond is there for a reason. We cannot be our complete selves in strength or love until we find our missing piece.’ Could Alpha Alexander really be her soulmate? Her missing piece? ‘Now do you want to tell me what this is all about?’ I suddenly look up realising mother is looking at me with intent. I’ve never been a good liar so the most awkward laugh escapes my lips. ‘Just curious that’s all. I’ve got to go mum. I’ll see you tomorrow morning.’ ‘Have fun. Don’t stay up too late gossiping about mates and medicine.’ ‘Yes mum.’ A sleepover wasn’t my most original idea but it wasn’t like I could turn around and tell my mum that I was going out of town with the married alpha, who’s best friends with my father because I need to know whether or not I’m truly his mate. Just the thought of Alexander made my cheeks pinken. I felt a tightness in my panties and knew if I didn’t get my mind off of him soon I would start dripping before I even left the house. I grabbed my bags from the front door and had just shut the door behind me when my phone dinged. It was Liam. My boyfriend. A fact I had to remind myself of. I feel like I haven’t seen you in ages. Do you want to meet tonight? Sorry. I already have plans. Perhaps tomorrow. I shoved my phone back into my pocket before I could think anymore of it and walked round the corner where Alexander’s car was waiting. I climbed in and neither of us said a word or greeted each other but even in the quiet I could hear the sigh of relief from Alexander as soon as the car door was shut and it was just the two of us alone. I felt the same relief. I had been so hept up and nervous but just being sat next to Alexander calmed me. I felt ridiculous feeling like that. I was nothing but a fraud. I wasn’t his wife. And until someone could prove it I wasn’t his mate either. Alexander started the car without saying anything and we drove in a comfortable silence to the outskirts of town where we stopped in the car park of a b&b but instead of heading inside we snuck around to the back of the car and started walking into the forest. I followed Alexander blindly, but never did I think this could be the perfect opportunity for him to kill me. Now could be the time he shows his true colours. I felt safe with him and when we got a little cabin covered in wilderness he waited for me to be by his side and reached for my hand before he knocked the door. We waited only a few minutes before the door opened on it’s own. Come in. We obeyed, Alexander's hand still firmly in mine. I’ve been expecting you two. A little old lady sat at a table stroking her cat that laid our in front of her on top of a book I could only imagine she was once trying to read. ‘You know why we’re here then?’ Alexander asked. The little old ladies lips curved into a smile but they never opened. You want to know why this young girl is your mate. ‘So it’s true then. Sophie is my mate?’ Alexander looked elated. She’s more than that. Sophie is a true luna. She was destined for it. ‘That can’t be right. I’m just me. Plain and simple. I’m not a luna. And how can i be his mate when he’s married to his mate already.’ Alexander did you ever feel the mate bond like you do now with your wife? ‘No.’ Because it wasn’t real. There are powerful potions out there that can mimic the mate bond. You were just stupid enough to believe it. Had you waited longer than you wouldn’t be in this predicament. ‘What do we do?’ What is there to do? A true luna and a true alpha are meant to be together. It would almost be catastrophic if you weren’t. Can’t you feel it? The pull to one another. Alexander can’t you feel her heartbeat speeding up, the rise and full of her breasts whenever she is close to you. Sophie can you not hear Alexander’s sighs of relief whenever you're close by or the throbbing in his d**k that he so desperately wants you to claim. You could have heard a pin drop in the cabin and though the old lady had left us in the most awkward situation she seemed very pleased with herself. Leave now. Alexander led the way and I had no choice but to follow. I didn’t even realise that we had stayed connected throughout the whole of it and we only separated when the harsh rain hit us the minute we were outside. I squealed as we tried desperately to run for cover back to the car. The bnb sign shone at me, stopping me from getting in the car. If we go home, then what? The window rolled down and Alexander called out to me. ‘Sophie, get in?’ I looked at him. I looked at my mate and then back to the bnb. I was moving before I knew it and a couple of minutes later I heard the car door shut and rushing feet coming after me, I was already at the reception desk before he caught up. ‘Is there a room available?’ ‘Two singles or a master?’ ‘Master.’ I looked at Alexander who stared at me with a glint in his eye. It was almost a wicked glint as he worked out exactly what this meant as he took over and paid for the room, keeping me tucked behind him, his hand wrapped around my waist. As soon as the lady handed over the key we walked liked to excited teenagers up to our room. Our. That was a word I could get used to. Alexander unlocked the door and let me enter first. I walked over the window whilst he locked the door behind us. ‘Can you prove to me what she said was true?’ I asked. ‘You still don’t believe that we’re mates?’ I laughed and turned around. ‘No. I believe that. I mean the other thing.’ Alexander’s eyebrows knotted together. ‘Can you show me how your d**k throbs whenever i’m near.’ Alexander’s chest rose with a huge smile on his face. Within seconds he closed the wide gap between us. His hand grabbed the back of my neck, driving me forward and crushing his lips onto mine, forcing my mouth open so his tongue could slide in and held me captive.
