I woke up with my heart already beating too fast.
I didn’t know why at first. The room looked the same. Pale morning light crept through the curtains. My breath fogged faintly in the cold air. The house was quiet in that early way that always came before the pack stirred.
But something felt different.
The air felt heavier. Warmer. Like it had weight.
I sat up slowly, my fingers curling into the blanket.
