SLOANE I paced the length of my room. My heart thumped behind my ribcage like it was in hydraulics. Out of the corner of my eyes, I peeked at the pendulum clock that stood at the far end of the room. The first court hearing was due at ten. I had a little over two hours to prepare for the arraignment. I was barely holding up, I could only make mental assumptions of what my father was going through. I let out a disgruntled sigh, grabbed my coat, and headed out of the room.
