ANDRIAN
I stared out the window, at the massive Navarro estate. Alpha Navarro was filthy rich, and could afford half of Spain. Well, in his defense, he had businesses at every nook of the country.
The only thing he couldn’t afford no matter how much he tried— a cordial relationship with his heir. Typical of men in his status, he blamed everyone else for their mistake.
I was a victim of the status quo.
Fifteen years ago, on Christmas Eve. It had happened so fast, so fast our worlds fell apart. We started from the anticipated talks about being Alpha of Aragon, to meetings with other Alphas of packs he thought I would be a perfect mate to their daughters.
Since Beta Sinclair didn’t have a child. Now, his lousy brother had somehow figured out a way to put up some false story about him, push him into the dungeon, and take his place.
My chest heaved with a deep sigh. I didn’t only have to convince my mate that she was mine. I had to protect her from the same people, who were meant to protect her.
A small jolt coursed through my chest when my phone rang. My eyebrows furrowed when I saw who the caller was. I pressed the accept icon, and pressed the phone to my ears. “Yes, Lucas…”
“I’ve gathered the information you requested, Alpha,” he began, and added almost immediately. “Your father, and the rest of the cabinet is waiting for your arrival at the dinner,”
A tangy taste gathered around my throat.
Protocols. Protocols. Protocols.
My jaw clenched. “I’m guessing that asshole is there?”
He groaned. “Hm. You know very well he hides in your shadows. The only thing Jason couldn’t do was dominate in the human world, otherwise he’d do that,”
I rubbed the bridge of my nose. “Fair enough…” I paused and added. “Drop the file in my home office, I’ll check it later,”
“Very well then. I—”
“I’m ready,” A sleek feminine voice cut through the air, tuning out Lucas and whatever he was saying.
I turned around to face her. Damn it! She…Sloane looked like a thousand stars were carefully placed in her pores. Her serenity sang through the air.
Really? Since when did I start with the poetic lines. I snapped out of whatever that was, and let my eyes do the talking.
Fern’s veins sang with exhilaration. He sniffed her scent, and even though her wolfen parts were really really subtle, and could only be picked by Alphas, he enjoyed her human scent.
Lavender. Smoked vanilla. Citrus.
Sloane scent drove into my nose, and spread through my blood. My heart pumped with a raw electric pleasure, and the veins on my hands roused.
Fuck!
The veins on my hands wasn’t the only part that reacted to the heat of her presence. I cleared my throat. “Come here!”
