Karad Zaraee. His first name meant "dragon leaf". His last name meant "royal beast". No one knew where he came from or why he was there. Many people were afraid of him though. There was just something about him that made people fear him. In the eyes of the people, he walked the cobblestone paths like he owned the place. He was 5'11", which made him look like a giant among the villagers of Rosevale. The tallest local there was only 4'9". Karad would spend most of his time sitting around the local tavern, but he didn't seem to drink much when it came to alcohol. He preferred milk and tea, which made him even stranger to people. Why would such a powerful man not touch ale?
One day it seemed like the peaceful town was doomed. Bandits who looked more powerful than Karad and ugly, showed up to loot the place. The villagers weren't trained and, in fear, started to flee. However, when Karad Zaraee stood his ground and stared down the leader of the bandits... Well... They weren't sure what had happened because they had all run away to hide but one young man, training to join the royal guard. The man watched as Karad transformed himself... But he didn't watch the whole thing. The transformation looked very gross. He heard screams of fear and looked back to see the bandits fleeing from... What? Karad looked as though nothing had changed... The stuff that oozed around him and dropped onto the ground burning it... There was no evidence of it... Everything looked... Normal? What the hell was going on and just who was this strange man?
No one believed the young man about what happened, so he did the only thing he could do. He wrote a letter to his captain telling him what he had witnessed. His captain wrote a letter to the king in response to which he was then ordered to bring the male back, so the captain road out to the small village of Rosevale with his strongest warriors.
The warriors stayed on the edge of the village while the captain went to find Karad. He was very easy to find and after a few minutes of talking, the man could tell Karad didn't really want to go see the king, even though he agreed to. After a few days' travel, they arrived at the castle and Karad was taken to the king where he was told to bow down to the king, but he declined.
"I bow to no one" Karad said with confidence to the guard that told him to bow. The guard went to whip the male but stopped when the king held out his hand.
"Your last name, Zaraee, means 'royal beast'. Why then do you not bow to royalty when commanded to?" the king inquired. Next to the king were 2 empty thrones, one for his dying wife and one for his currently missing son who was presumed to have been kidnapped about three months ago.
"Because I do not acknowledge those who claim to be royalty as royals. They break their promises more often than a thief or murderer," Karad answers, barely holding back a snarl of disgust. He turns his back and begins to walk out of the large throne room.
"Please, wait" the king calls to the male. The male stops and looks over his shoulder in annoyance. "A young man in Rosevale partially saw your ability and told his commander, who told me. I know this is a lot to ask, since you don't like royalty but... My only son has been kidnapped and no one's been able to find him. Please, I'd give anything to have him back. After his disappearance, his mother began to fall ill. It's likely that she's not going to live much longer. I... I can't bare the thought of losing them both in such a short time span. Please will you help return him to me?" the king asked, almost begging.
"There has been no ransom note, so what's keeping you from acknowledging the fact that maybe he got tired of your bullshit lies?" Karad spat through gritted teeth and before anyone could say anything more he ran out of the throne room and out of the castle. He jumped on his horse, and they went speeding out of the city that the castle was in. Once a good distance away, he went into the forest a decent way before he got off his horse and sat in the roots of a willow. Thinking he was alone, he let the tears flow from his eyes. He really did want to see his mom before she died, but he couldn't stand the way his father ruled, let alone certain views his father had. The king despised gays... And he, the crown prince, was gay. He studied magic secretly for years to be able to change his appearances so drastically. He mostly specializes in illusion and healing magic, but he does know some defensive attacks and how to use a sword. His real name, as the crown prince, is Eviat Verthus. His first name meant "Stag fire" while his last name, different from what his father originally wanted but was talked into by his wife, meant "Peace harper". Karad Zaraee was only his alias to keep his father from finding him.
He was thinking about maybe going back home to the castle to see his mom one last time but... He was so different from the son his father wished for. He had done his best to be what his father wanted, but he just couldn't keep pretending anymore.
... And it was coming to the point where he was ready to assassinate his own father just so he could take over and change so many of his father's harsh laws, such as those who were openly gay being killed on sight. He just... It was all just starting to get way too much on him. Especially since he had a crush on a certain guard who was fairly new to the royal guard. He had issues with trying not to blush around the very handsome guard who wasn't much older than himself. He had no idea that the guard liked him back because the guard was much, much better at hiding it than he was.
Thinking he was alone in the Immeral Forest, Karad let his guard drop and, in turn, his illusion that he was a 5'11" powerful man that looked to be in his 30s or 40s. Instead, he now looked like himself. About 5'7", early 20s... 24 to be exact, clean and well groomed. Unlike most royals, Eviat knew how to keep himself clean and well-kept without the help of servants. After a few minutes of letting his tears go, he wiped them away and just laid against the tree with his eyes closed as his horse grazed nearby.
