King Samuel knew that he should ally with as many groups as he could get. The recent exodus was unexpected. He needed to find people who would be willing to take up arms for him when the time came.
He was not taking any chances on his successive rounds of the forest. He brought his two loyal guards and the two Proteans. Louis and Francis eyed Lukas and Robert would suspicion, possibly thinking about whether the two would bolt again if danger presented itself.
“We’ve met with Julian’s pack. Who should we meet with next?” the young king asked the Proteans.
“We may need to meet Radon’s pack,” muttered Lukas, obviously unenthused.
“Are they unpleasant, this group?” asked Samuel.
“You can say that again, Your Majesty,” replied Robert, his eyes narrowing as if he remembered something.
