Chapter 1

I smiled as I watched the earth from where I stood, praising its beauty internally. That planet has a soft spot in my heart for various reasons. How I wish to be there to swim in those cerulean waters and unwind from this stressful life as a deity. Maybe I should visit that place again when I have time. I deserve a break anyway. "Prosepene" I couldn't help but make a face before turning to face my mother with a smile plastered painfully on my face, "Yes, mother?" I asked in a sweet voice, waiting for my mother to say something while maintaining a polite smile on my lips. She only comes to talk to me whenever she is in need of something. My mother's eyes held not even the tiniest amount of affection when she stared at me. It made me wonder if she loved me at all, "We need your help" She stated, gesturing me to follow her as she turned around to walk away while I stood there. Her words sounded bleak in my ears. Of course, just like I expected she is here because she needs me to do something for her. Yet, I felt a wave of disappointment washing over me. When she will learn that I craved her affection more than anything else in this universe? When she realized I wasn't going behind her, she turned around to face me again, this time impatience evident on her beautiful face, "Well? I don't have all day" She said sarcastically, placing both of her hands on either side of her hips. "Yeah, I am coming" I sighed, trudging towards her unwillingly as she let out a noise of approval and turned around to lead me to wherever she needs my help. "It is the god of the wars," My mother said as she walked down the stairs, "I heard he is plotting something to destroy the underworld. You have to look into his life to see if he really planning on doing that" I listened quietly to her. At times like this, I appreciated my ability. I am a master of infiltration. I had the ability to acquire knowledge about someone's secrets by inhabiting someone. It is a cool power to have but most of the time I feel overwhelmed by it."You are sending me to the god of wars?" I asked her when she fell silent. "You will be fine," She said without a care, "You don't have to inhabit Ares but you can try inhabiting someone who is close to him" She raised her shoulders to shrug, "And I have the right person so it will be easy for you" I shook my head but of course, she could see that as she was walking ahead of me, "It sounds dangerous. Everyone knows how distasteful Ares is. Doing this will only make him mad and he will destroy the underworld for sure after that even if he wasn't planning to do that from the start" "Enough" My mother snapped, turning around to face me, "I only asked you to help. Not to give an opinion" She glowered at me, "And please, the underworld is untouchable. Ares wouldn't be able to destroy it" "Then why are you sending me on this suicide mission?" I asked. "Stop exaggerating" My mother rolled her eyes at me, "Just because Ares couldn't destroy the underworld doesn't mean that he wouldn't cause any damage. It is just a precaution" She said, "Now I have explained more than enough, I expect no more opinions or questions from you" "I want to talk to father about this," I said. "That's not going to happen" She shook her head, "Hades doesn't know anything about this yet. I plan on not telling him because he already has a lot in his mind" She shrugged, turning around to start walking again, "You always wanted to make him proud, don't you? Then why don't you take up this mission?" I started walking behind her as well, "Yeah, I want to make him proud while I am still alive" "When Hades created you, I know you will be a nuisance" She grumbled under her breath, "I warned him not to create you and he did and you were gifted with such an ability and now you are being ungrateful" She shook her head, "It seems like just like all the time, I am right about this as well" I brushed away the jabbing pain in my heart as she talked, "I will be forever grateful to father" I said in a small voice. "Then prove it" I didn't have anything else to say. She always played this card with me. She knew I wouldn't refuse it if she said those words, "Fine, I will prove it. I will take up this mission and prove it to you just like all the other times you made me do things like this" My mother chuckled darkly, "Sounds like you're angry. That's good. Anger can be a good motivation" We entered her chambers and instantly the room went dark and lit up, sensing her presence. She pointed at her large screen on the wall that is fully touchscreen, "Here. This is the man you will be talking to. According to a source, he will be going to the earth this Friday to his favorite club" I connected the dots in less than a second, "You want me to go to that club as well" I stated as I looked at his picture. "You got it right" She nodded her head, looking impressed, "You always wanted to visit that planet anyway so I am doing a favor for you. Once you're done with your mission, you can stay there for a few days before returning to the underworld" Seems like she has already thought this through. "Remember, Hades cannot know about this. He is a little overprotective of you so if he gets to know about this, he wouldn't let you leave" She continued when I remained silent. "Then what shall I tell him when I have to leave?" I asked, narrowing my eyes at her. "I don't know. Come up with something" She shrugged, "Use your brain for once" She pointed at her head. "You know the drill, mom-" "I told you not to call me that!" She snapped making my words die in my throat, "You are only allowed to call me that when Hades is around, and whenever he is not, you will address me as goddess Persephone" I forced a smile on my face even though my heart shattered into a million pieces, "Goddess Persephone, you know that I won't lie to my father no matter what. He did not raise me that way" I said, trying not to show her how deeply her words affected me. Does she have to be this heartless? She didn't look so pleased with my words, "Stop trying to look like an innocent woman" She hissed through her teeth, balling her fists at her sides, "Just tell him that you are going to have fun in the human world" "I can't do that" I shook my head, "It is either you come up with a plan or I am not going on this mission at all" I crossed my arms against my chest, firm on my decision. My mother exhaled through her nose, "Fine, I will take him out on that day so you can leave. I will tell him that you went down to earth for a visit after you're done" "I hate hiding things from him" I muttered under my breath, "Okay. That sounds okay" My mother nodded her head, "Now that's settled. You can do this right? You can inhabit this man right?" She asked, pointing at the man's picture again. "When could I not ever inhabit someone?" "Good. You are free to go now" She said, waving her hand dismissively at me, "Oh I almost forgot. You can bring any of your friends with you while you leave to earth. That way Hades wouldn't pester me with questions about your whereabouts" "Noted," I said before exiting her chambers. Once I am out, I let out a huge breath. Whenever I am alone with her, she never failed to intimidate me. Even with the powers I have, I couldn't help but resist the urge to flinch whenever she let out a harsh word or two. "I must say I didn't expect to see you here of all the places, Prosepene" I looked up at my best friend, "Nicholas" I said, a genuine smile curving at the corners of my lips, "I didn't expect to see you here as well" I said, walking towards him. "I am supposed to bring Goddess Persephone her green juice at this time every day," He said, showing a tall glass green colored juice, "What about you? Why are you here?" He asked, looking at me with interest. "My mother wanted to see me" I answered him. "Okay" He smiled, "We prepared your favorite cookies in the kitchen today. Hope you enjoy it" That only made the smile on my lips widen, "Oh that's lovely, Nicholas. Thank you so much" I grinned at him, "You should probably go and give the juice to her. You know how she is when someone is not punctual" I said, worried if Nicholas will get in trouble. Nicholas nodded his head at me in agreement, "You're right. I should go but I will see you later, okay?" "Yeah, sure" I smiled. Nicholas half-heartedly left me there and knocked on my mother's door, waiting for her permission to step into the room. Once he heard consent, he stepped into the room. I let out a sigh and went down to the kitchen to hunt for the cookies Nicholas was talking about. Nicholas was the son of the head cook in our castle. He and I have been friends for over fifteen years now. He has always been with me through thick and thin. Eventually, I made my way into the kitchen and everyone bowed as I passed them. I told them many times not to do that yet they couldn't stop themselves from doing so, "Hi, everyone" I chirped with a smile, "A little bird told me that my favorite cookies were freshly baked today" I grinned, my eyes falling on Hector, Nicholas"s father. Hector nodded his head and smiled at me, "Yes Goddess Prosepene. I was about to send it with Nicholas to you after he came back from Goddess Persephone's room" He said with a warm smile on his lips. "That's alright," I said, "I will take them myself" Without another word, Hector grabbed a clear bowl for me and started stacking up those cookies into the bowl, "I assume you are going to eat with your father, Goddess Prosepene?" I smiled and nodded my head, "You know me so well, Hector" I smiled, "Those cookies are his favorite as well" After a few minutes, I was walking out of the kitchen with a bowl of cookies in my hands and a smile on my face. I made the way straight to the throne hall, knowing my father would be there at this time, "Is anyone else inside?" I asked the guard once I reached the hall. Apparently, there was someone with my father now so I waited for him to get out of the hall first before going in, "Seems like you're so busy these days, father" I said, entering the hall. "Prosepene!" My father exclaimed in delight, "Oh my day just got better!" He said, gesturing for me to go to him. "I fetched some cookies for you on the way," I said, crossing the distance between me and him in a blink of an eye, "These were freshly baked today" My father nodded his head, glancing down at the cookies, "Did you taste them yet?" He asked, looking up at me again. "When did I ever eat without you, father?" I smiled. That earned me a soft chuckle from him, "You are so sweet, Pro" He said. He was the only one who called me with a nickname, "Come on, sit with me so we can enjoy those cookies together" He said, patting the armrest of his throne chair where I usually sit with him when no one is around. I love him more than he can ever know. I smiled at what he said, "Take one, father" I said, waiting for him to take a piece of cookie. My father nodded and picked one before bringing it closer to his lips to take a bite, "Mhmm, this is good. Hector is getting good at making this recently, don't you think?" I took a piece of the cookies and went to sit on the armrest, "He always gets better at something day by day, father" I agreed with him, taking a bite of that cookie, "How was your day, father?" I asked him like I usually would. "I took care of a few things today but overall, it is pretty good so far. How is yours?" I smiled, "It just got better now that I am here," I said. "Oh, Prosepene. Creating you has always been the best decision of my life. I never knew I could get all the affection I ever needed from the daughter that came to life in my hands" He said, his eyes were soft as he watched me, "Thank you, sweetheart. As a father, I feel so content with how you take care of me" "It is an honor to be at your service, father," I said, my heart swelling at those words, "Thank you for creating me so I can be with you" I added, smiling as I took another bite of that cookie. My father smiled back at me as we enjoyed the cookies together in that throne hall.
