EPILOGUE
After the verdict, I tried to buy Papá a new house, but he said if I was strong enough to stand up against the world, he could handle a few busybody neighbors. Instead, he accepted some of the money I offered him and joined me on a trip around the world. I got some new glasses, cut and dyed my hair, and the two of us hopped on a plane headed east from Charlotte. For several months, we traveled the world, losing ourselves in the crowds of Venice, Cairo, Sydney, Sao Paulo.
