Chapter 5: Bound by Flame, Tested by Shadows (POV: Nina) The moment Auren touched me, the world narrowed to the space between our breaths. My heart thundered against my ribs, not with fear, but with anticipation — something ancient and electric simmered in my veins, as though I had always been waiting for this exact moment. His green eyes locked on mine, glowing with a power I could feel thrumming beneath my skin. His warmth enveloped me like a sacred vow, drawing me in. “I’m yours,” I whispered, my voice cracking with emotion. “I’ve always been yours.” He cupped my face, thumb tracing the curve of my jaw. “And I, yours. For this life… and the one before.” Before I could ask what he meant, his lips met mine — not hesitant or questioning, but fierce and reverent. His kiss lit sparks across my soul, awakening something in me that pulsed in time with the very earth. Auren’s aura flared out, the forest around us bending slightly, as if it, too, acknowledged our bond. “I want to mark you,” he whispered against my neck, his breath searing and reverent. “May I?” I nodded. He kissed the spot where my neck met shoulder. A searing heat bloomed through me as his fangs, sharp and glowing, grazed my skin. I gasped, but not in pain — it was a connection. A bridge between souls. Power exploded in my chest, rushing through my limbs, lighting every nerve. I felt… complete. (POV: Auren) When my mark took hold, a blinding light surrounded us. Nina shimmered — foxfire and ancient magic wrapped around her like a second skin. My mark settled not only on her flesh but in her soul. I saw flashes — of our past life, of her laughter centuries ago, and her fall. I wept silently as I held her. I failed her once. I would not again. She opened her eyes, now glowing with the iridescent hue of moonlight and fire, and smiled. “You remember now, don’t you?” I nodded. But even in our shared silence, something shifted. The wind went still. Birds no longer sang. Then… I heard her scent before I saw her. Poisonous sweetness. Liyana. My former mate. The one who rejected me. (POV: Liyana) I watched from the shadows. My blood boiled at the sight of him marking her. Her — the reincarnated princess. I was supposed to be chosen by fate. Not tossed aside like a broken charm. I stepped into the light, my lips curled in a smile that held no warmth. “Miss me, Auren?” Nina turned, the glow in her eyes blazing brighter. His body tensed, moving in front of her protectively. Liyana laughed. “Relax, darling. I’m not here to kill her. Yet.” (POV: Nina) The woman before us was breathtaking in a venomous way — all sharp cheekbones and dark grace, dressed in sleek crimson robes with black embroidery curling like snakes. But the real threat came from her eyes: dark green, filled with cunning… and pain. “You must be the past,” I said quietly, stepping beside Auren. “And this… is the future.” She snarled. “He was mine. I rejected him only because I was young, foolish… afraid. But I’ve changed. I’m stronger. I can offer him things you never will.” “He is not an object,” I replied. “And fate chose otherwise.” Liyana’s eyes narrowed. “Then let’s test fate.” (POV: Auren) I stepped forward. “Liyana, don’t do this.” She didn’t listen. She drew a blade from the air — enchanted, carved with ancient runes. A challenge. To the death, or surrender. I had no choice but to meet her challenge — even if the thought of hurting her made my chest ache. (POV: Luna) We arrived too late. Zane and I had returned from the Temple of Elders, only to sense the disturbance. My daughter was in danger — and my soul flared with protective fire. Ivy was beside me, her hands crackling with violet energy. “What the hell is that woman thinking?” Kane growled low in his throat. “Let’s just hope Auren can end it quickly.” But we knew… when it came to love lost, nothing was quick. (POV: Nina) The duel was swift and brutal. Liyana moved like smoke, and Auren countered her with raw strength and precision. But even as I watched, I felt her hate bleeding into me — she didn’t just want him back. She wanted to destroy me. And that was her mistake. Because I was no longer the girl clinging to my parents. I was Nina. Daughter of Luna and Zane. Reborn warrior queen. Flames curled from my hands. The guardian angel, Seriel, shimmered at my side, his wings invisible to all but me. “Protect your bond,” he whispered. I stepped into the circle of the duel, magic roaring. (POV: Seriel) I watched as the chosen heir claimed her place — not with violence, but presence. Her aura flared like the sun. The balance shifted. Even fate held its breath. (POV: Liyana) I faltered. Something in Nina’s gaze wasn’t just power — it was ancient, divine. She walked through my spellfire like it was mist and touched my blade. It shattered. Her hand reached for mine, not in anger. “Let go,” she said. And suddenly… I did. Tears fell before I realized they’d formed. The rage melted into grief, the grief into surrender. “I’m sorry,” I choked. “I… I just didn’t want to be forgotten.” (POV: Auren) I caught her as she fell to her knees, not from injury… but from loss. Nina stepped beside me. Her compassion was her greatest strength. Liyana looked up. “You’re lucky. You both are.” And then she vanished into the wind. (POV: Zane) I held Luna close as our daughter stood tall, power circling her like a crown. I had thought letting her go was hard. But seeing what she was becoming? That was… everything. (POV: Kane & Ivy) “She did it,” Ivy whispered. Kane nodded. “No… they did. Together.” Ivy grinned, fingers laced with his. “Just like us.” (POV: Nina) Later that night, Auren and I sat by the glistening lake behind the temple. The moonlight danced on the water, and fireflies blinked in rhythm. He leaned in, tracing my new mark. “I would’ve died for you.” “I’d rather you live with me,” I smiled. We kissed, slow and sacred. And for a moment, the future didn’t feel like a mystery. It felt like home.
