New D.C.—President Richard Matheson died early this morning, passing peacefully in his sleep at the New White House. The First Lady made the discovery shortly after 0500. By 0600, Vice President Morris Van Buren had been sworn in as the sixty-fourth president to occupy the Oval Office. He also assumed the candidacy for the upcoming presidential race for the Heartland Party in President Matheson’s stead.

Cathedral on January 18 at 1100, followed by a procession to Arlington National Cemetery.
