Gotham—In a move that has been widely anticipated, the Senate today approved new legislation introduced by the President, making the embedded identification beads mandatory for each citizen of the Republic above twelve years of age. The glass bead, which contains a nanochip carrying biographical information for the citizen in question, is embedded beneath the skin on the back left of the neck and can be read with an external scanner. Beads will be installed over the next year during each citizen’s annual physical examination. The embedding requires only a local anesthesia and is not painful.
