Rain slammed against the floor-to-ceiling windows, like someone pounding on the glass in desperation. I curled up on Victor's sofa, reviewing documents with a wool blanket draped over my legs. The television murmured in the background. "Hawthorne Group has officially declared bankruptcy today." The doorbell rang.
